Hi all, I've been a slow loser since day 1. HW:364 SW:347 CW:285 at 6.5 months. I'm very greatful for any loss but I have to say I'm terrified that this is suppose to be my honeymoon period and what it will mean when it's supposed to "slow down"... So, I'm curious to know, for all of you who are 1+ years out of surgery, did your weight loss slow dramatically ? At what month and by how much?
-
Has anyone had an RMR performed? Did you find that it helped weight loss significantly?

I can feel my sleeve
snowkitten replied to fee1972's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it turned out it was esophageal spasms. I had it every time i ate or drank. It lasted a few months and we're crazy painfull. It did eventually go away tho. -
LOL, no worries, I have no disillusions about losing that fast. I'm a slow loser anyways. Thanks for the warning tho.

I had the VSG in 2014 and lost 110lbs. Unfortunately a mix of sleeve failure (after an egd my gastroenterologist said if he hadn't known I had the surgery he never would have guessed, my stomach was normal sized) and emotional eating cause me to gain back about half. My surgeon offered a revision with option to do resleeve, RNY, or DS. I don't wanna do an RNY because I need frequent EGD'S. I've always wanted the DS so that seems most logical. Vitamins and bowel movements don't worry me. What worries me is the amount of Protein malabsorption. Has anyone had issues with this? I already have a protein losing enteropathy so this is a concern. On one hand adding the DS could exacerbate the issue since it's not certain where the protein loss is located . On the other hand, it could help. My last biopsy showed the small intestine villi were enlarged. Which could be (and most likely is) the reason for the protein loss. If the diseased part is bypassed with the DS then it could potentially give me a better shot at protein absorption. Now people say eat 80-100g of protein a day and no worries. Has this amount ever given u an issue? Thanks in advance!

That's great, congrats!

Ty for the reply. How has your weight loss been with the modified DS length?
-
Awesome! Congrats!!

I'm really not sure. I talk to my surgeon on wensday so I'll ask him all my questions then. I'm leaning towards the traditional DS only because there isn't long term data on the SIPS. I don't wanna fail again u know? How much have u lost?
-
Oh wow your doing really good to get 80 and only 6 weeks out. How do u like the sips? Have u noticed alot of bathroom visits? Did ur surgeon tell u how much u malabsorb? I can't seem to find that online. It's only the DS stats.
-
Oh! That totally makes sense. I've heard alot of people don't realize their SIPS arent the real DS and thus call it DS. Explains why they said 80-100. Thanks for that insight. [emoji4] Do you all find it hard to get in 120+ protein?
-
OK that sounds better. All the info I've read said 80-100. Which didn't seem right to me since that's what I was told with my sleeve. Has that amount kept your lab Lvls good?
-
Sorry for any confusions. I'm not asking for medical advice. Just giving some background info. My question is if any DS'ers have difficulty with protein malabsorption despite hitting the 80-100g. In the DS surgery the intestines are rerouted and you absorb less fat, protein and complex carb. That's the "magic" of it.

I've done alot of research, and its possible Im looking too much in to this, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer on how much of each Vitamins are required daily. I found this list.... -Adult Multivitamin, w/100% of the recommended daily allowance -1800 mg to 2400 mg Calcium citrate (divided into three or four doses of about 600 mg each, taken at least two hours apart) -18 mg to 27 mg Iron for menstruating women -10,000 IU Vitamin A -2000 IU Vitamin D -300 mcg vitamin K -B-50 complex is optional Is this accurate? Ive read alot of posts of people taking alot more so I have a hard time believing this is a comprehensive list.

Vitamins - how much exactly
snowkitten replied to snowkitten's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Thank u all for your responses. I think it confused me because I'd heard the DS vitamin regimen was so intense, but from the list it seems normal to me.... mind u I've been taking alot of meds since I was 13 so that's probably why. All perspective I guess ,[emoji4] -
Vitamins - how much exactly

Yes I know it's all different. I was sleeved in 2014 but it has failed. My surgeon offered me resleeve, bypass or DS. I've chosen DS due to medical reasons. Im sure he will give me vitamin instructions but I wanted to do all research ahead of time. Sorry for any confusion, I just didn't want to bore everyone with my details, but I am a soon to be DS'er -
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a trend with their menstrual cycles or if its just my own special weirdness. Ive noticed that in the PMS stage of my monthly cycle (ie, 1-2weeks before my period) I am extra hungry & i can eat MORE volume. For example, for that 1-2 weeks I can eat 3/4-1 cup of soft food & 80+ oz of Water, or about 2oz of chicken. BUT during my period to the week after i have a hard time getting 1/4 a cup of soft food or 1 oz of chicken & i struggle to get all my fluids. I've have found research connecting the menstrual cycle with hunger, but i haven't been able to find anything regarding capacity. Not sure if its because woman without wls don't think about it and/or because the sleeve is still fairly new so no studyies have been performed. Anywho, i was wondering if any other sleeve patients had noticed this.
-
Im not exactly sure where to post this question since its kind of an in-between topic, so I apologize in advance if you see this in two locations…. For all those people who originally had the sleeve and were converted to the bypass, I was curious to know WHY? What was your journey? For those who had to have this done do to gastritis, what was done for that before they jumped to conversion? Did anyone have to have this done because of stomach spasms?

August post op sleevers: Check in
snowkitten replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats to all the aug 2014 sleevers! Wow we have made it a YEAR!! Yesterday was my 1 year surgiversary. HW 364, SW 347, CW 254. I have to admit I'm pissed at myself for not losing more. My husband and mom often have to remind me that I have a huge amount of stress and losing as much as I have is an acomplishment. Despite not losing as much as I want, I have had some great nsv's. I havnt been sick in over 6 months! (Huge victory for me because I have an immune deficiency and normally get sick every other week), I can cross my legs and curl up in a chair, I can bike 4 miles without stopping, I have inspired at least 10 people at work to use their breaks walking, I've been able to RUN with my 3yo son, and so so much more. Best thing I've done for myself -
Shot down by my "best" friend

So sorry you didn't get the reaction you wanted from your bf. I had lost 110lbs before anyone noticed my weight loss. Just last week I had 5 people ask me if I lost weight. Not one before that. Sometimes people are clueless. Don't let her reaction discourage you. 40lbs is amazing! Congrats -
Magnesium Citrate...can we take this after surgery?
snowkitten replied to flipper72's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I take it all the time, great stuff. -
Experiencing hate for my loss?
snowkitten replied to sweeteyes504's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow that's some extream jealousy. What do u do? I'm amazed your coworkers are so childish. For the most part I've had encouragement from my coworkers. With the exception of one woman. She started "tatting" on me to my boss. I use my breaks at work to walk around the neighborhood. She told my boss that I took too long on my break and then told my boss I took 3 walks one day. It was funny tho cause my boss asked how many walks I took one day and I flat out told her 3.... my two normal ones on my morning break and afternoon break. And I added one during my lunch break (which I clocked out for). My boss laughed. She wasn't upset anyways. I surpass my coworkers in the work I get done and she thinks it's great I'm losing weight. I know this girl is just jealous, but it really bothers me that she's trying to get me in trouble. I guess it's just the price we pay -
I'm one of those people who are extremely sensitive to heat (70+ and I get sick) so I understand your concern. I can tell you from personal experience that yes it does happen easier, but not much worse. One thing that you should do is make sure u take gummy/liquid vitamins (it absorbs better). If you are deficient in any nutrients the heat exhaustion gets much worse. My arms get so weak I can't lift them and a few times I've fallen cause my legs gave out. Turns out I had a vit b deficiency. But I don't regret getting the sleeve. It's very manageable! Good luck
