Im not exactly sure where to post this question since its kind of an in-between topic, so I apologize in advance if you see this in two locations…. For all those people who originally had the sleeve and were converted to the bypass, I was curious to know WHY? What was your journey? For those who had to have this done do to gastritis, what was done for that before they jumped to conversion? Did anyone have to have this done because of stomach spasms?

Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
snowkitten replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've heard of it being done for gerd, but I've never heard of it being done for gastritis/esophageal spasms (which I have). I actually WANT to have this done because its miserable being in pain and never knowing when ill have a bad attack. But my surgeon hasn't mention anything but more testing (for what?) If this current treatment doesn't work (its not) I really hope you don't have to get another surgery you don't want. Good luck!! -
5 mo post op stall, for past month
snowkitten posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've been in a stall for a little over a month and it's driving me bananas. Normally I will lose about 4-5 lbs after an infusion, but this time I GAINED 3 lbs. Since then I havnt lost anything. I had a stomach bug for a few days that had me vomiting alot, and then the gastritis/esophageal spasms I get worsened. This made it so I ate very little. I've heard that sometimes increasing calories can break a stall so I wanted to try that, but with esophageal spasms everytime I take a bite I'm miserable. I'll admit I resorted to slider foods to get the calories in. I never went over 1200 calories tho. Normally I top out at 1000. Ive had no change. What do I do???? -
5 mo post op stall, for past month

That's a good idea, I wish I could say I thought liquids would help the spasms, even water hurts! But it definetly couldn't hurt to give it a break. I'm gonna try that starting tomorrow. -

My dr said the symptoms i had were definetly esophageal spasms but she also thinks I have a second issue with my gallbladder. I was given double the dose of prescription strength omeprezole, carafate, and ranitidine to take daily. And nitro glycerin for the bad spasms. So far it's not working but I'm told to give it 2 months. Surgeon was useless, so at least I know he doesn't think the symptoms are a leak or anything sleeve related. Please keep us updated on your progress. I'd love to know what other drs do about it.

Im 5 months post surgery. I've had a tummy bug for the last 4 days. Dizziness, Nausea and vomiting. Then randomly I'll be starving so I'll force myself to eat. Then I get light stomach spasms, nausea, and light vomiting. Today I wake up with a bad headache but nausea is better so I eat. Now the nausea is back and the spasms are horrendous. Like they were right after surgery. Do I worry this is something wrong with my sleeve or is it just that my sleeve is irritated from throwing up??

I went to see my surgeon about some gastritis and esophageal spasms I've had. He was NO help. He said he has no idea and I've already done what he would have asked me to do (egd, meds ultrasound) so for the next month just continue what my pcp prescribed me (double dose omeprezole, ranitidine for gastritis and nitro for spasms) and hope it goes away. He than said something that indicated he was disappointed in me for my amount of weight loss. So now I'm in pain, discouraged AND depressed.

So upset- bad apt with surgeon
snowkitten replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Haha, maybe its a gastroenterologist thing. Too much talk about s*** is rubbi g off on then I could but then I'd risk paying $35 to someone new and they may turn out to be an a** as well. At least I don't have to pay copay for this guy. Your right tho, I will keep at it till something is done. -

Eclectick- Hmmm, I think my profile is defective... so my stats are as follow HW: 364 SW:347 CW:292 So I've lost 72 in 7 is months, 55 of that in the 5 months since surgery. At my 3mo check up I had lost 40 lbs, so I think he was disappointed that I only lost an additional 15 in 2 months. Logically i know 55 lbs in 5 mo tha is awesome, but I'm currently in a stall so I'm sensitive over not losing and him getting upset with me rubbed me the wrong way. -

Gal friday- I have one, you know what he said when I told him I'd been throwing up? "Yeah that's going around".... at the time I thought it was a bug too so I didn't persist. I'm gonna try to do this regimen but I'm not gonna wait 2 months, then I'll have my dr put in a referal with him about this. -

So upset- bad apt with surgeon

Thanks pac-woman. .. it's nice to know I'm not crazy thinking this was all so off. Unfortunately, I already have an internist (I have an immune deficiency so I see an internist, immunologist, gastroenterologist, pulmonologist, and pcp) amazingly they aren't very good. With the exception of my pcp that is. She's really awesome but your right, there's only so much she can do. I live in alaska and go to the Indian health care center. They don't have a variety of specialists, and they won't touch anything to do with the surgery. I feel stuck, like I just have to deal with the burning of gastritis and spasms every time I eat. I want LESS meds, not more. I think what upsets me most is he pretty much brushed me off and then made me feel like a failure. -
So I'm curious, who has been diagnosed with esophageal spasms post surgery? What was the cause? Treatment?

Chicken 1/4 cup or 1 ounce Fish 1/4 cup or 1 ounce Beef 1/4 cup or 1 ounce Soup 1 cup stew 1/2 cup Spaghetti 1/2 cup In general the more liquidy the food, the more I can eat

Stomach spasms with tummy flu
snowkitten replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My dr is thinking I may have that in addition to the esophageal spasms. She already did an ultrasound that didn't show stones but she says that sometimes there are stones or sludge that don't show on an ultrasound. I'll keep updating as I learn more -
Stomach spasms with tummy flu
snowkitten replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Pcp says it's esophageal spasms with possible gallbladder involvement. She increased my omeprozole for the constant spasms (the ones I get every time I eat or drink) and gave me nitroglycerin for the bad spasms (the ones that last hours and make me cry). Had no idea they give heart attack meds for the tummy! She also said to let her know what my surgeon said. I see him tomorrow. -

Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?

I have not been fated to have a revision. But I'm fearing that's where things are heading. Mickally: what kind of meds did you try ? How long did you have issues before they revised you? How much weight have you lost? Padraigma613: do u know why you gained the weight back? Was it because the stomach acid mimicked hunger and you ate more or is there another reason?? What was done for your Gerd? -
Stomach spasms with tummy flu
snowkitten replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did not have a fever, but yesterday i DID. I can for the most part keep fuilds down. I was in my infusion when this severe spasms came on. They almost cancled it but instead gave me zofran (for nausea) and ranitidine (for gastritis). It ended up working... so long as i didn't eat or drink anything. I continued to use both over the weekend and as long as i kept up on them i was fine. This morning however i took them, and had the spasms AGAIN! My pcp is out till thursday but i have an apt with her then. Im waiting till my surgeons office opens now to call and ask them about it. I have a feeling they will say its gastritis causing esophageal spasms and really what can be done for that?? -
Did you find out what this is? I'm having the same issue. I had this for the first 2 weeks post surgery but then it stoped. Now im 5 months post op and having it again. I was given ranitidine on friday which helped, and as long as i took it first thing in the morning and before eating i was ok. but now not even that is working.
