Menstrual maddness!
snowkitten replied to Lanewboricua's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's very common. I read somewhere that hormones get trapped in fat and as you lost the fat, the hormones get released. My cycle is all messed up. Some times I get it every other week, every two weeks, 1x a month, for 10 days, for 15 days etc.... it's all over the place. I'm on the nuva ring and am supposed to be able to stop my cycle at will, but that idea has gone out the window! On the bright side this means your losing fat. Yay, go you! -
How Do You Cope With the Waiting!
snowkitten replied to sbacoleman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I totally understand your anxiety. The waiting was hard. I became obsessed with this site and bugged my scheduler too. Luckily she had wls years prior so she understood. I coped with the waiting by checking this site, doing research (and yes I had already done this, so I re-researched and re-re-researched etc.. lol). And I kept reminding myself that a year from now I would have the surgery and this wait time will be a distant memory. If I were to give 1 year ago me advice I would tell myself to watch marathons of 600lb life, biggest looser, and other weight loss shows. It helps me personally to get motivated. -
So frustrated losing slowly and taking meds that make me feel sick
snowkitten replied to AreLin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh, before I forget... take your measurments!!! It's not unusual to see the scale stall. But it's extremely helpful to be able to measure and see that you have lost inches. -
So frustrated losing slowly and taking meds that make me feel sick
snowkitten replied to AreLin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going to point out the obvious..... that 2 lbs a day was most likely water weight coming off. Starting the med and the weight slowing down is probably coincidence. It's more likely your body did the normal halt as to it you lost too much too fast. U WILL start to lose again. Probably not nearly as fast since from here on it will be fat loss and not water/crap loss. But that's good. If the medicine is making you sick you need to tell your doctor so they can change/stop it. If you find the feeling continues I suggest also working with your dr/nut. It's not unusual to find alot of people feeling sick and too exhausted to exercise after they start. After all your body is used to this huge amount of calories and now your basically starving it. Your Dr should be able to help advise you. -
Personally I don't this this had so much to do with your weight loss as it does your happiness. Know the saying "misery loves company"? Some people just like unhappy people (or even people they think should be unhappy). I had a friend who was great. We worked together, went out together, talked all the time etc... I would honestly call her a best friend. She was always complaining to me about a guy she was obsessed with who wasnt as in to her. Then one day I met this amazing guy who made me happy and who was very obviously in to me (this is actually my husband now). Next thing I know she completely stopped talking to me and is seemed she almost "shunned" me. 6 years later it still hurts to find out our friendship meant so little to her. My advice to you is to sit her down and ask her what is going on. Tell her your feelings (the sooner the better because the longer u wait, the harder it gets). I actually waited several months to ask my "friend" what happened and by then it was just too late to fix things. Good luck, I really hope things work out for u.

Drinking too fast - probably another dumb question...
snowkitten replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Sreeves I've been able to drink quite fast as well. Because of that I specifically asked my surgeon if I could stretch my sleeve by drinking water. He said no, then revised his statement to say as long as I don't keep drinking even after full and TRY to. I think it's safe to say that you just need to listen to your tummy, when it says enough, stop. -
You know you lost weight when
snowkitten replied to Thomas CPA's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
While joking around with your brother you say "shush, I'm gonna kick u in the head" and he says "go for it" (thinking there's no way in the world u could get ur leg up that high).... so you do.... and easily!!! Hahaha, look on his face was priceless -
Hypoglycemia and Protein Deficiency
snowkitten replied to missheathyr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a protein deficiency for reason not related to wls so I know how hard it is to play catch up. My go to is the whey protein shots. 45 grams of protein per shot and only 180 calories. I drink half in the morning and half at night. -
Immunity problems after surgery?
snowkitten replied to frizzylizzie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No a vitamin d deficiency doesn't affect the immune system. What was your WBC? Lymphocytes? If those were low tell your doctor your concern and ask for more in depth tests (IGG, IGA, IGM, CD4, CD8 ETC..). BUT you should be aware the treatments for immune system issues is not fun. Try taking Vitamin C. My doctor says it's the only vitamin proven to help the immune system. (Fyi, I have CVID, an immune deficiency so I do know what I'm talking about... but it's genetic, and has only improved since surgery) -
A doctor prescribed me 2 bananas a day (for the potassium ). As I'm sure you can all imagine my sleeved brain is screaming NO!!! Too many calories, too many carbs, eek too much lol. So does anyone know of high potassium foods that would be sleeve friendly??

Long term slow loser results?
snowkitten replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've done alot of research lately and one thing I read that I found interesting is an article that said because wls patients are on a low calorie diet for so long our metabolisms gets messed up and we actually have to eat 30% less then a normal person who is on a diet. That's why a normal person can lose on a 1200 calorie diet but many of us have to go much lower. Im not sure if that helps any of you, but I for one am using the info to try and figure out how many calories i can eat vs how many calories i need to burn (I don't know if I trust my fitbit on how many calories I'm burning). If anyone has any other ideas or info I'd love to know -
Thanks for the site! I had no idea milk and yogurt had potassium in it. I would definetly be ok with adding yogurt as a snack since it has good protein in it

Gained most of my weight back
snowkitten replied to frumpy69's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@globetrotter no no, it doesn't "matter"... I was just curious because I was wondering if it's true that not all calories are just calories. I'm sure we have all heard calories in vs calories out. But the doesn't seem to be the case.... especially like with your circumstances. I was just hoping to figure out a way to "fix" my stubborn weight loss. -
I don't understand how I gain weight now?
snowkitten replied to akreese02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@akreese02 what kind of foods have you been eating when you gain weight? I've done ALOT of research about this lately because it's driving me crazy. I always heard weight loss is calories in vs calories out. But im now learning that the TYPE of food has alot more to do with it then I thought. Which I guess is why we're told high protein/low carb. Unfortunately doing the under 30g carbs that my Dr suggests makes me sick (super dizzy, spacey, etc..). Still figuring out what works for ME -
Gained most of my weight back
snowkitten replied to frumpy69's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@globetrotter if you don't mind me asking, how many calories were you eating when you started gaining your weight back? What kinds of foods were u eating? Have you found a trend? I'm so sorry your weight loss is so difficult. I agree that many of our metabolisms are screwed up. I myself can't eat more then 800 calories and nearly all of that has to be protein for me to lose. If you ever figure out how to fix your metabolism I would love to hear all about it. Good luck!! -
I don't understand how I gain weight now?
snowkitten replied to akreese02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm curious to know how others respond to this. I have been wondering something similar .... how can I not lose on 1000-1200 a day? It seems as if I have to stick around 800 calories to lose. -
Getting Sleeve on Wed.- a couple of questions-
snowkitten replied to polar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They put me to sleep before tubing me and woke me up after they removed it. I was given a med for the nerves before the procedure. They said it would make me feel "good" for awhile but it literally last 2 minutes. Lucky for me tho the little girl across from me was given the same thing at the same time and hers lasted so I watched her be silly and that helped my nerves lol -
Really? I was still around 500 at 7 weeks! My surgeon told me 1000-1200 as well but I found if I go over 800 I don't lose. So now I'm at 600-800 and I'm losing again! Yay

Vitamin overdoses and underdoses
snowkitten replied to CanyonBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OMG I know EXACTLY what your talking about. I'm not a wuss with pain but those literally make me cry out. I once had one so bad it travled up my body and it felt like contractions! Hahaha I love your Harry Potter comparison! So going to use that! -
What is your normal days food intake look like?

Ok. WTF am I doing wrong?
snowkitten replied to thecakewasalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's what I was thinking! !! But I have not gained or lost even .01 pounds for many weeks. (I weigh everyday. ) so no water fluctuations but then...BAM 3 pounds. It freaked my ass out!Ugh, unfortunately that's very common for me. I'll wake up and I'm 10lbs heavier... it's because I'm starting to pms and I retain water like crazy. Expecially if my albumin is low (have a non wls related Protein issue). Oh and when I lose weight my hormones go crazy so I end up pmsing a couple times a month. So when your weight goes up just keep those things in mind and try not to stress. -
Vitamin overdoses and underdoses
snowkitten replied to CanyonBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ugh, I'm so sorry u get those leg cramps. Ive had them since i was really young too. They are the worst! I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. My family actually has a history of low potassium so im not suprised. I didn't even think this was due to that tho because I'm use to my mom's symptoms of the leg cramps. I did get minor ones (nothing to blink at) but figured it was due to all the exercising. Glad I finally went in to get checked! Ugh, I know. Over the counter potassium is a joke. My Dr prescribed me high dose potassium packets. You mix them with water and drink it. So grose. I'll do that for a few days then take another blood test next week to evaluate. -
Vitamin overdoses and underdoses
snowkitten replied to CanyonBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I saw my doctor and she did some blood test. Turns out my potassium was low. I thought I was going crazy that I was so weak my arms literally felt like I couldn't lift them. Turns out that's a symptom! Something about paralysis. -
Ok. WTF am I doing wrong?
snowkitten replied to thecakewasalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just wanted to point out that you didn't really gain 3 pounds from eating 1200 calories in two days (and actually not even if you did all week). 1 lb is roughly 3500 calories. So you would have had to eat 3x that beyond what it takes for your body to survive. So take a deep breath it's most likely water weight. When u don't drink enough water your body will hold on to it.
