All In August 2014!
snowkitten replied to Roostertail2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm in anchorage, the biggest city. Don't feel so bad, I've lived here for the majority of my life and never seen a whale. Lots of moose, foxs, rabbits, and bears but never whales. I probably don't make it to the Water enough tho. I'm not so much scared as I am in disbelief. It's something I've thought about for so long that it doesn't seem true. I find that during the day I'm excited but at night I start to get nervous. This website has helped tremendously tho. -

Freakin' Fecal Test - Warning, Rant Ahead
snowkitten replied to HaddocksEyes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What prompted them to have you do a fecal test? I had to do this to check for hpylori since my blood test came back positive . My Dr said that the blood test is too unreliable since it will show positive if you've EVER had it. I havnt received my test result yet but I'm assuming no news is good news I'm sorry this is delaying your surgery but that's great their being careful. -

Whoa you get this done at every pap test? I've never had that done, thank god! -
Something to Worry About?
snowkitten replied to junyper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your Dr doesn't think it's due to your sleeve there are a few other possibilities. It could be a stomach bug (its going around), you could be sensitive from the grease in the chicken. Nerves from the fear it's your sleeve. Or heat if it's hot where you live. Hope you feel better -
lied about my surgery :/
snowkitten replied to Amarie812's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He doesn't need to know specifics. Have your note say "you need to be out for x amount of time for surgical recovery". Or something of that line. As long as it's a medical note from a provider they can't require details. Now if your filling out short term disability paper work then they probably need to know more. BUT you can give that straight to your HR department. Your boss never needs to see it. (I was told this by my HR department when I had to fill out Fmla for my chronic illness. ) -

Need serious advice
snowkitten replied to Bishop James Long's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh so sorry, I see how that came out wrong. You said you couldn't take excedrin migraine, I meant because of that you should try a different long term med so you don't have to suffer. -

snowkitten replied to Bishop James Long's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Since you won't be able to take excedrin migraine meds daily any more ask your pcp about a prescription daily preventive medication. I know there are a few options like topiramate. It didn't work for me but it may work for you. There are some other things as well. Good luck! -

They give vicodin/percocet for post op so I don't think it would be banned for preop. Ask your surgeon to be sure. Have you tried maxalt or imatrex for your migrains? I take that for mine and it helps. -
Any other August 5th surgeries!?!?!?
snowkitten replied to Alex C's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"Sigh" wish I was still aug 5th but the surgeons office rescheduled me for aug 25th I'll be watching for updates on how you all do. Good luck!! -
help ! I'm sick
snowkitten replied to nellyninoska's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The majority of sore throats are viral so antibiotics won't do anything. I would suggest taking Tylenol for pain and getting chloraseptic throat spray to numb it and schedule an apt with your Dr to check for strep. Hope you feel better -
Pregnancy symptoms with sleeve

Congrats! -
HalloweenBaby24- I'm so sorry your having that issue with your hubby. I got lucky, mine is excited for me. And not in the "yay she will be thin" kinda way. He truly doesn't care if I'm big or small. But I explained to him all the good points of the surgery for him and he's excited. Perhaps you can do the same and it may change his attitude? For example, my hubby is very adventurous so when i told him i will be able to do things like camping, hiking, biking etc.. he perked up. But what REALLY got him on board and being my cheer leader? I told him I'll have more stamina and desire for sex. Lol he's even talking about eating better and exercising with me now! Good luck. Bladefox- haha I did the same thing with my husband. I had him go to the teaching seminar and he said only the sleeve. He didn't like the sound of the other two. That was fine with me!

Yes there are signs that pop up before the scary stuff. I havnt had the surgery yet but I've had protein deficiency for years. The docs looked at my blood tests and shrugged it off. Aparenlty its not high on the worry list for them. When i started getting severe edema I made my doctor evaluate it. For me it turned out to be an immune deficiency so I had a reason for the deficiency that needed medical intervention, but it took years of me pushing to figure that out. At the time the doctors were convinced it was nutritional deficiency and they weren't worried at all. So I guess my point is that if the protein deficiency is from lack of nutrition then doctors really aren't worried. They will see it in your routine blood test and tell u to increase your intake.

Restless BODY syndrome?
snowkitten replied to FosterPussycat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah the benadryl didn't work for me either (but I had to suggest it). Ive also tried benzos too (and agreed that I HATE them so I know how desperate you have to be to take them), vicodin, Electrolyte drinks, Vitamins, etc... I did not try the offered neurotin/lyrica as they both have a high chance of weight gain (as well as the fact my step father had been on it before and it made him...weird). I'm eager to know what your doctor suggests since mine seemed to be pretty useless about it, pls keep us updated. -
Restless BODY syndrome?
snowkitten replied to FosterPussycat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes there is absolutly such a thing. I've had it for the past couple years and I haven't even been sleeved yet. Tell your doc and they will probably check your electrolytes and or give you something like neurotin/lyrica. I've read that benadryl at night can help too so maybe u can ask your doc about that if you don't want to take a stronger med. I really hope it's temporary for you, good luck -
August Sleevers Check In
snowkitten replied to Sweet Pea STL Sleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no! I'm so sorry that happened to you too. What is your new date? I suspect they pushed mine back because someone wanted to take a vacation. I live in Alaska so no one wants to work this time of year. Unfortunately I tried to talk to the surgeons office to get an earlier date and they didn't have anything. And I can't do later because we will just get more and more clinics as of mid aug. I'll just have to take what I'm given and catch up with work when I get back. -
Wouldn't people be able to see it on my friends list tho?

How long did you wait for approval from BCBS Federal?
snowkitten replied to mamaofmatthew's topic in Insurance & Financing
When I turned in my paperwork to be submitted the office assistant said bcbs requires a surgery date. I'm not sure if that's true for everyone or just if it's just my surgeon's practice to do so. Unfortunately the tentative date I was assured was available turned out NOT to be. I had to schedule for a totally different day 3 weeks later. So just keep in mind the tentative date the surgeons office gives bcbs may not be a real date -

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but 15 days means business days. So actually the nurse has until July 23rd. Good luck! -

snowkitten replied to mamaofmatthew's topic in Insurance & Financing
I lost the war with my patience and called the insurance company yestersay to find out. They said as of 7/8 I was approved. So it took 5 business days total. And that's WITH a holiday so u know their brains were at half speed.
