What’s Your Relationship with Exercise?
snowkitten replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Love-hate, I'm finding that I hate traditional exercise, but I really enjoy biking, walking and hiking. Now sure what I'm gonna do in the winter! -
Am I a lost cause? How can I believe in me when I have failed so many times in the past?
snowkitten replied to More than this's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no idea what my pcp thought of the surgery. I went in to her, handed her the surgeons fax number and told her to fax the referral to him. I really gave her no choice. I tell you this because I want to remind you that Dr's don't get to choose what happens with your medical. Don't ask her, tell her you want a refferal. If she refuses, just go to a different dr. You don't have to give her up as your pcp. Just agree to disagree with her. -
Does anyone forget they have been sleeved when you make food choices? Lol thread!
snowkitten replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately yes. On a really hot day when my husband has a glass of ice soda I've grabbed it and taken a drink only to have to spit it out because the bubbles burn my and quickly remind me it's a bad idea lol. -
From the research I've done on probiotics you have to get them live, at least 25billion cfu's, with 10 different strains and make sure it's refrigerated to get the most benefit.

burning sensation/heartburn without even eating
snowkitten replied to bunnybunny626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same issue. I take double prescription strength omemprezole daily. When the burning happens I'll take tums or ranitidine. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. When it doesn't my pcp gives me carafate -
Technically fat and muscle weight the same. 1 lb of fat is the exact same weight as 1 lb of muscle. However; 1lb of muscle will look significantly smaller then fat.

So let’s talk head hunger… I’ve never been the type of person to eat a lot on a normal basis (binges yes but not consistent). In fact, my biggest problem is that I often forget to eat, then I get so hungry/dizzy/irritable that I eat the WRONG thing (often sugary items which I KNOW I have to control). My question is this; once you had the sleeve and the reduction of the ghrelin hormone, did you notice that the symptoms of hunger (the dizziness/irritability/etc..) were reduced? If not what did you find was the best way to control your head hunger?

Will eating EVER feel comfortable again?
snowkitten replied to brandeett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ansolutly! Sounds weird but enjoy this time. It's the easiest and fastest time you will lose weight. When food and drink becomes comfortable is when the real challenge begins. -
Having a lot of pain/spasms
snowkitten replied to brandeett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nitroglycerin tablets. They give them to stop heart attacks but it also works for esophageal spasms. Sounds freaky right? I was weirded out by it but the pain was so miserable I was willing to try anything. It did work (most of the time... there were a few that it didn't resolve completely but it at least lessened it so I wasn't in tears). -
Having a lot of pain/spasms
snowkitten replied to brandeett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds alot like esophageal spasms. I had them really bad. Ask your pcp for nitro. It was the only thing that helped mine. I had mine at the beginning right after surgery and again after the flu. Apparently any time the sleeve is aggrivated I get it. I hope u feel better, I know how miserable it is! Oh before I forget, avoid really cold or hot fluids and spicy things. This can bring on an attack. -
So from what I've read the average weight loss for the sleeve is 55-65% of excess weight right? But in what time frame? Is that supposed to be in 12mo? 12-18mo? 18mo? Or ever? Don't worry, I know I can lose more or less, I'm just curious to know. My surgeon said I can expect to be 230 lbs (SW 347). I won't make that by my 1 year mark (Aug 25th) but I'll definitely make it by 18mo (currently 261). I'm wondering if my surgeon will be disappointed with me on my 1yr check up or not.

I had to do that at 1 week post op. It was... unpleasant. The drink is just like water, but has a metallic taste. Kinda like surgical instruments were soaked in it (at least that's what I imagined). The bottle I had was bigger then 32 oz and there was no way in hell I was going to be able to finish it in 1 hour. With lots of pushing I was able to get through half. They never said anything and the CT scan came out just fine. The worst part was the day after. I tasted, smelled, peed and crapped a metallic smell. But in the grand scheme of things that's not so bad. Just annoying. You'll do fine.

This is going to sound like a really dumb question but.... oh well When measuring the arms are you supposed to pull the tape measure taunt? Or do you just loosely encircle the arms? I ask because my arms have alot of sagging and it seems like the measurement hasn't changed, even tho it seems like my arms have gotten smaller.

@@mtraverse thanks, that's what I was doing too

How is 'excess weight' calculated?
snowkitten replied to Beachsprite's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Calculate what your bmi weight should be and Subtract that from your current weight. That is your excess. -
I have tried every which way to find a pattern, but my loss is ALL over the place. It does seem like I'll lose a few lbs, then I'll gain twice that amount (water/constipation), and then I'll lose. But I can't find a time Frame so I can't predict it. It's very frustrating
-
I can relate. I'll be 1 year on Aug 25th and I thought for sure I would have lost significantly more (86 since surgery, 103 if u include preop). But like you I have had huge stressors (mom I take care of has terminal cancer, dealing with my own illness CVID, etc..). I constantly feel guilty that i havnt lost more. But we need to be proud of what we HAVE lost and remember that it's not a race. We will get there eventually. For me this site is a huge motivation. I also started making non food rewards.

Oh yes, this was a big thing for me. My pcp said she sees it alot with her WLS patients. Research on the Internet indicates it's because your losing the protective fat your body is so used to. It took about 6 months before I stopped needing to use my heating blanket. But it HAS gotten better

snowkitten replied to sparksrn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 11 months out and can only eat 2.5oz of protein at a time... 3.5 after a work out -

What to tell coworkers?
snowkitten replied to volgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just tell people you need a staycation. People at my work do it all the time. When u go back weighing less just tell them your working hard to lose weight. They don't need to know more. -
