the dream that i could never dream of
mommy3boys replied to PinkMary's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
congratulations... -
Grew up being a short yet curvy. Didn't get real fat until I started working graveyard, 30 lbs in 3 months, then over couple of years up to 200. Had 1st son at 240, second son at 270. Three months later started researching gastric bypass, found spotlighthealth and all the wonderful people there, decided the band was for me. Had it done 1/25/03 got pregnant again, weighed 242 at time of surgery, 212 when son was born. Self paid with dr kuri in mexico. Got divorced and am raising 3 small boys by myself and am extremely grateful I did this because I know for a fact I would be currently over 300 lbs due to stress/depression/anxiety, instead I have the energy to raise my kids, work and feel so much better about myself. Am not at goal but getting closer. ana 242/180/140

For those already banded, do you count calories?
mommy3boys replied to sleepyjean's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't but have not lost a significant amount of weight in a long while. I am pretty restricted but have been making some pretty crappy choices. I have started tracking on fitday and will be walking early in the morning with my neighbor before going to work. ana dr kuri 2003 242/180/140 -
i'm 5'3" and at 180, goal is 150 and then the PS begins. Need a FTT and want a BL Ana

She had a great show...i will totally be incorporating alot of the things he said into my kids diets. for sure whole wheat bread. i looked in my pantry and boy most of the stuff i have is crap with extra crap mixed in. I will be making major changes in my diet and for my boys also. It was a great show. ana

I can so relate with you. I started at 242 and am 5'3" and also got my band 3 years ago. I am in the exact same boat as you, the last 35-45 lbs will require a major commitment to exercise. good luck. ana

i married at 21 and waited to have kids, wanted to finish college (did at 26) and spent lots of time just hubby and me. had my 1st at 28, second at 30, got band at 30 and had last son at 32, divorced at 34. well i start back to school in the fall to get a teachers credential and spend more time with my kids as they grow up. i never expected to me at this by myself and the best thing i ever did was finish school in the first place. i can afford to work part time and raise my boys. "Life is what happens when your busy making plans" heard is somewhere and boy does it explain my life. Good luck with your decision. ana

Pregnancy okay at 4 months post-op?
mommy3boys replied to StephanieRaye's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded 1/25/03 already had 2 boys, baby being 10 months. I found out I was pregnant in May 2003, my 3rd pregnancy was phyiscally much easier. I was huge with my 2nd boy, weighed 270 and ended up having a c-section, my baby was 10 lbs. With my band baby I started at 220 and weighed 202 when he was born, naturally no c-section. Very fast process. When I went in for 6 weeks check up I was at 182. It is up to you but boy after having 3 completely different pregnancy and 3 very healthy boys I must say my band baby was phyiscally much easier on me and my baby. Also because of the smaller meals due to my band I didn't have horrible morning sickness which was a huge problem with my 2 previous pregnancies. ana dr kuri 1/25/03 242/180/150 -
what was your weight-gain pattern?
mommy3boys replied to vinesqueen's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi You all, Weighed between 140-150 all through high school, college saw me between 140-150 then boom met former husband and went to work swing shift to go to school mornings and bam 30 lbs in 3 months, got married at 180 then went up to 220 over the next 8 years. had son #1 at 240, son #2 at 270, got band at 242, son #3 at 212. while going through worst part of marriage (his cheating) got down to 168. now i've had my 3rd fill and down from 200 to current of 180. Hopefully i'll get to a comfy 150 and get my PS to look great. Already feel great since getting ex-hubby out of my life. He was caustic! -

For money I work as an accountant processing bill backs and program allowances for a large tomato processing plant, hope to change careers and go into teaching. For love I am the single parent to the most beautiful little boys in the world (recently divorced). Ana

i've had my band for 3 years and just got my third fill 1/11/06. it is great restriction level. but i am too grieving the loss of food, mostly i ate out of boredom and comfort. i have 3 small boys and i'm also a single mother. sometimes i see something that looks so good i wish i could just have the whole thing not just a bite. but after a little while i move on to something else and the feeling passes. i was on lexapro after the father of my boys cheated and while was completing my divorce. now i think i just miss food and it will probably be a slow and steady emotional loss. hang in there, we are all in the same boat. take care, ana 242/188/150

question for those not telling anyone at work
mommy3boys replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
pj and sleepyjean, i have a sit down job and other than some shoulder pain from anesthesia i did not have any problems. i did not have any health problems due to my weight before surgery. i had my son by c-section 8 months earlier and lapband surgery was nothing compared to my recovering from my c-section. i was on liquids for 1 week and soft foods for 1 more week. had my first fill 4 months later, it was hard to schedule a trip to Mexico. i planned my surgery to be a private as possible for obvious reasons. i just did not need/want people to tell me "their opinion" on why a lapband and especially on why in mexico. i was born in mexico and there are quacks in every country. i just looked for the best choice for me. i have located a fill dr in san jose, CA. i live in the central valley and because i'm now a single mom it makes things easier for my home life to have someone closer. i chose dr kuri based on his large number of satisfied patients. dr mckeen actually thinks dr kuri is a great dr. that was all i needed to know. ana -
Pregnancy and the band "Amanda Story"
mommy3boys replied to LOVEMEACB4E's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i never got an unfill during my pregnancy. my midwife and dr were very thrilled with my pregnancy, they had been with me the other 2 times. just to make sure my dr run a lot of tests and was very impressed with everything, was only a little anemic but that also happened with my other pregnancies. interesting side note, i had severe nausea and vomitting with first 2 boys and none, nothing with my last son post lapband. ana -
banded 1/25/03 by dr kuri too, isn't he great. ana 242/190/150

question for those not telling anyone at work
mommy3boys replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i told no one...had it done in Mexico with dr kuri. Worked thursday, was off friday for testing, saturday surgery, sunday walked around, came back home monday, back to work tuesday. didn't even tell my parents, just hubby and i knew. fast forward 3 years, only immediate family knows and 2 good friends/coworkers. that's it. weight loss has been slow but noticable over the last 3 years. everyone thinks i look fabulous. that's all. ana -
i've had my band for 3 years and the process has been slow..stop..slow for a while now. i finally have hit my sweet spot at 2.1. at first i paniced and almost drove myself back to dr's office twice (2 hour drive) but took anxiety pill and chilled it out. i think it was swelling and anxiety at finally not being able to eat as much as i had in the past. i mourn loss of large quantities of foods sometimes. i can't believe how much of a stress/boredom eater i was/am. i can't eat any solids before 11 am and stop at 7 pm to avoid nightime coughing, possible acid reflux. i drink lots of Water and eat mostly salad with chicken/seafood and a small dinner. so far i'm very happy at this restriction level. at one time (pre 2.1) fill often considered getting as tight a fill as possible but thank God I was wasnt' that dumb because i can honestly say that is no way to live. ana dr kuri 1/25/03 242/190/150

Plastic Surgery Poll
mommy3boys replied to sleepyjean's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
tt, bl for sure, a must. my tummy is sad, sad i tell you. the other things would be a dream maybe, inner thigh lift, arm lift. none surgery things will be therma cool of face for a slight face lift, i'm young. ana 242/193/150 -
i just got my 3rd fill on 1/11/06 and am almost in the same boat. i keep second guessing myself. i've had my band for 3 years, my surgery dr and my fill dr recommend liquids for 2-3 days, then pureed/muchies for 2-3 days then at 1 week soft foods. if at any time you pb more then once go back to liquids. i have always had greater restriction in the am, so i do Protein drink am, Protein Drink for lunch, cheese stick for snack mid afternoon and mashed food for dinner. i have only pb a couple of times but because i gulped too much Water and just had to have 2 chicken nuggets (1 was fine). the only difference is this fill gives my acid reflux at night and it's driving me crazy, it is getting better though. i called my fill dr and he said since i can drink water well and eat softies i'm ok and to be patient. i think the hardest part of this journey is learning our own individual restriction level. ana dr kuri 1/25/03 dr kuri 5/03 1.5 dr kuri 4/04 1.8 dr mckeen 1/11/06 2.1 242/193/150 ps. stay away from high calorie/fat comfort foods, i am the biggest offender of the ice cream, dips soft foods.

i just had my 3rd fill in 3 years, it has been a slow and steady pace for me. my first fill did nothing (1.5) my second fill one year later (1.8) did ok but it became very easy to eat more once the restriction loosened. my last fill last week (2.1) is the first true sweet spot i have every felt. i drink my Protein drink in the am, Protein Drink for lunch and muchies for dinner. i sip Water all day long. the only concern i have is that i get a little acid reflux at night, i've never had this before. i called my doctor and he said to give a few weeks since i don't pb at all. i think i'm giving myself anxiety just because for the first time in 3 years i can actually eat so little and do not feel hungry at all. it does loosen up in the afternoon. ana dr kuri 1/25/03 first fill 1.5 5/03 2nd fil 1.8 4/04 3rd fill 2.1 1/11/06 242/193/150
