  1. I'm thinking it's all doctor preference! I have had 2 different surgeons (band and now bypass) and they both used the diet I posted for 2 weeks. I do know my current surgeon has some of his patients do it longer if they are heavier.

    Tickers

On the computer, I click on my username in the top right hand corner, and on the drop down menu, under settings, it has my tickers. I did notice after I created another one for my surgery date, it did not add it to my signature. I went back and there was a box that has to be checked to add it.

That was one of my big concerns with my mother, and still is... lifting the 2 year old. I know she will have issues leaning down to give her a bath in the evenings. I'm hoping my sisters, or a niece, will stop by and help with baths. Otherwise, I'm hoping we can just get by!

Praying for the best for you! I understand the frustration. I have a 16 year old son with disabilities and a 2 year old. lol my mom is going to come stay a few weeks, since my husband works nights.

My doctors office submitted it to insurance first. We didn't set the date until after I won my appeal, and then I went for nutrition classes. Maybe in your case they know they can prove medical necessity?
  9. I hope you have no problems! I have BC/BS. I had United Healthcare for my band, but my work changed insurance after. BC/BS said my band was successful. I wrote an appeal letter listing out every reason why it wasn't and the decision was reversed.
  10. Hmmmm.... what am I really looking forward to? (1) Buying something to wear and liking the way that it looks on me (since I detest shopping for myself); (2) Not worrying about flying or vacations where places might be a little tight; (3) Feeling confident in myself; (4) Believing my husband when he tells me that I'm beautiful (yes he does tell me all the time, but I don't find myself beautiful); and (5) Most important for me, being able to spend quality time with my husband and kids, and knowing that I am healthy enough to continue caring for my disabled son for many years to come. We are all about making memories, and I don't want those memories marred by something concerning my weight.

    Depression and Gastric Bypass

Welcome! I would think you will be fine, as long as you can pass the psychiatric evaluation. Personally, I know that losing weight before helped my bouts of depression. But I've never been really diagnosed as "clinically depressed". Doc just gave me meds to take when anxiety got the best of me.
  12. I am having band revision to gastric bypass on 11/07, removing the band and hopefully doing the bypass all in one surgery. I have BC/BS. I still had to go through nutrition classes, have cardiology clearance and have an upper GI done this go around, but did not have to go through psychiatric testing or the 6 months of weigh ins that I had to go through the first go around. Since your band was removed so long ago though, it's a possibility that your insurance will require you go through everything again. I know the bariatric program I am in said most of their requirements have to have been completed in the last year.
  13. Wow... you're doing great. I remember how great it felt to get that weight off after my band. Cannot wait to get there again after they remove my band and do the bypass surgery next month!
  14. I was on my husbands family plan when I started a new job. When I found out the plan they had their covered it after a year, I chose to purchase my own individual insurance through my job, making my husbands become my secondary.
  15. Hope it works out for you! My Husbands insurance didn't cover it, so I paid to get insurance through my employer, because it did after I had the insurance for one year. Now my husbands insurance covers it as well! lol
  16. I've seen others that said they were on liquid only as well. Ouch!!! This is basically the same diet I had to follow before my lapband a couple of years ago, and I lost 16-18 lbs before my surgery date doing it. I can't imagine doing liquids only!!! My husband did this one before his gastric bypass last year, and did great.
  17. This is the Liver Shrink Diet that my doc uses. I have to start it on 10/24/2017, for surgery on 11/07/2017. LIVER SHRINK DIET Follow this 2 weeks prior to surgery Remember: Non-Starchy Vegetables are UNLIMITED on this diet (Except potatoes, corn, beans, peas-see attached sheet) Breakfast Protein Shake or Protein Bar (You may use any shake or bar as long as it has 220 or less calories, 1 Og or less fat, and 15-30 g protein/serving) Mid Morning Snack 1 small piece of fruit (tennis ball or 1/2 cup) (if you have Diabetes add 4oz low-fat yogurt) Lunch Protein Shake or Protein Bar Mid Afternoon Snack 1 small piece of fruit (tennis ball or 1/2 cup) (if you have Diabetes add 4oz low-fat yogurt) Dinner • 3oz lean meat (the size of a deck of cards) • Steamed vegetables or salad with fat-free salad dressing (2 Tbsp) • 6 unsalted crackers or 2 slices low-calorie bread or 1 small baked potato (computer mouse) • Y2 c fruit or 1 small piece of fruit (tennis ball) Evening Snack • 1 small piece of fruit (tennis ball or 1/2 cup) (if you have Diabetes add 4oz low-fat yogurt) Beverages • You may only have CALORIE-FREE beverages • NO ALCOHOL! • Examples: Decaf. Tea, Crystal Light, Sugar-free Kool-Aid, Powerade Zero, Water CLEAR
  18. It's completely a personal decision. Before my lap band surgery, I worried about this. And now I am having revision to gastric bypass! lol So that just gives everyone even more to discuss. But I really don't care who knows. It's my decision, and I've made it. I choose to put me first and get myself back, so that I can feel better and be a presence in my children's lives for many years to come. Generally when I put it like that, no one has anything but good to say to me. I think for me, I felt like people would talk more if I acted like it was something I wanted to hide. I have a relative that lost a bunch of weight after "gallbladder surgery". Unfortunately she is the one more people discuss than me, who had bariatric surgery and was very open about it.

    RNY November 2017

Hi all! So I had Lap Band surgery in 2014 and lost about 100 lbs. Only to start having chest pains that my doctor said were caused by my band. So the fluid was drained, and back came all of the weight lost (except 10 lbs.). I asked for revision, and was denied by my insurance, but after writing a letter asking for an appeal, they have reversed that decision. Yay! Now back to life. Surgery for revision to gastric bypass is set for 11/07/2017. Excited scared!
  20. I was looking for the same thing. I started having issues with my band last year and had to have all of the fluid taken off. Since then, I have gained back 90 of the 100 lbs I lost. Insurance denied my revision, at first, but I won on appeal. I saw the doctor 2 days ago and got my new surgery date... November 7th. I'm excited and scared all at once! My husband has had the gastric bypass and is doing wonderful. Now it's my turn, again. Just don't know if my experience will be any different, since my band has to be removed.

    Quiches

I bake mine on the middle rack
  22. Congrats to all the new bandsters I have missed! I am doing well. I have started walking and I'm trying to figure out the diet and just what I can and cannot eat. Tomorrow is my first post-op appointment with the doc, and I assume my first fill. He put a little fluid in at surgery, but after the swelling went down, so did the tightness. I'm a little nervous about accessing the port for the first time. Who has done it?
  23. I'm 5 days post op and trying to get this thing figured out. My doc did a small fill during surgery. After surgery it was 2 days liquid, 2 days soft and then to regular post op diet. Liquids are okay by themselves when I drink them slowly and I've eaten some small amounts of soft foods. Today I was supposed to go to regular food though. I made a baked eggroll though and couldn't handle it. So I guess no bread includes that. lol. Right now it feels like that one bite is bobbing up and down in my throat.
  24. I guess different doctors have different restrictions. I was banded on Monday, with a 2 week pre-op diet. Monday and Tuesday were liquids only. Wednesday and Thursday I could progress to soft foods and today my post - op days I can go to normal diet (minus carbs, etc). I haven't tried anything risky yet, and my doc did start with a small fill, but I ate boiled eggs yesterday. And I plan to try oatmeal today.
