Anyone heard of Dr. James Davidson in Dallas, TX?
katmeg99 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm having my lap band surgery 09-18. I found Dr. Davidson through my PCP. I had never heard of him before. Has anyone used him? Were you happy with the procedure?:help: -
I'm three weeks post op and from the beginning I've had the unenviable problem of, well, I'm just going to be up front about it---regularity. I hadn't done my "business" in over a week after surgery so I called the doctor, who advised me to take a dose of Milk of Magnesia. That worked wonderfully (if that experience could ever be called that) for that day. However, I was back to my regularity problem. So Sunday (I'm going to call it Black Sunday from now on) I took another dose of M.O.M. Childbirth was easier than this experience. I have never felt such horrible pain in my entire life. I screamed enough to wake the dead and then some. I won't nauseate you with how the situation was rectified, so to speak; suffice to say this was a very humbling experience. So my question to you is, if my doctor says that I shouldn't waste my calories on vegetables and instead should focus on Protein, how are you all getting the Fiber in your diet to keep you regular? I really don't want to go through that experience, ever, ever, ever again. :help::help::help:

Hi all---I just found out the chewable vitamin I have been using is not the correct kind because it doesn't have iron. So I switched to Centrum Chewables and I swear those are the nastiest tasting things ever. Does anyone have any suggestions for a chewable or liquid multi-vitamin that has iron but doesn't taste disgusting?

I was banded on 9/18. I think I'm eating both too much and too fast. I finish off a 16.9 ounce bottle of water in about 30 minutes. For meals, I eat about 8 ounces of cream soup. Is that too much? I'm really afraid I've stretched my stomach and all this money I spent was for naught.

Dear lord I'm in serious pain over here. My surgery is tomorrow and I drank that bottle of magnesium citrate and I am constantly running to the bathroom, which I know is supposed to happen but for the love of . . . ! How long does this last? Is this going to keep me up all night?

Time4Me: I started having some doubts but made sure I focused on all the positive comments on this site. I keep having fears that I'm going to be that person that constantly PB's. I am horrible throwing up--it just about makes me pass out I strain so hard so I am not looking forward to that at all. My surgery is tomorrow --- it's real now and I'm getting really nervous. Good luck to you. I know you'll hit the 20 pound mark!

gurlygirl: let's keep in touch after the 18th and see how things go. Oddly enough, going off the shake diet I lost 2 pounds. Go figure. Can't figure it out. Are you getting nervous?

We'll see. It's just real clear to me that the 11 pounds I lost in 8 days was all Water. I'm scheduled to go in Monday for my blood work and a final weigh in. We'll see. On another note, I just wanted to say how wonderful it is how you keep up with everyone. It is really uplifting. You're the day after me, right? Just a few sleeps away!

Ok, all. I've totally turned into the biggest cheater. I do my two shakes a day, then I go home, exercise and eat a salad with tuna and low far/low carb dressing. Last night I decided, screw it, I'm having sushi because I won't be able to eat it for a long while. So now, I've officially gained six pounds since last saturday. I'm getting real concerned they aren't going to let me have the surgery on Tuesday. I guess having my last course of hot wings before the surgery wouldn't be a good idea, would it????
-
poohlvr--Doctor said I had to lose between 15 and 20 pounds. On Saturday I was at 16.5 lost. Now I'm back to 11 lost. Very discouraging. He may make me wait until I've lost at least 15.

I'm just going to jump in here and say that you all are scaring the heck out of me! I'm scheduled to have my surgery 9/18 and have been going to Curves for my daily 30 minute workouts. Everyone on this thread is doing workouts that I'm confident would kill me! Also, I don't have that extra hour to hour and a half to devote to exercise. I'm afraid I'm going to fail with the band before I get started because I can't devote that significant amount of time to exercise. Am I blowing things out of proportion? Is it possible to lose weight with daily 30 minute workouts?:rolleyes

poohlvr---interesting point. Mine said three per day and that's all I get. I skipped the one at lunch today because I'm just sick of the taste. I know this sounds hard to believe, but I can't wait until the post-op stage when I can have strained cream soups! Of course, that's if my surgeon let's me have the surgery on Sept. 18.

Good luck Cindy! Let us know how everything goes!

Poohlvr--all I'm supposed to have is protein shakes. I'm drinking the slimfast low carb shakes. And I keep gaining weight. I finally gave up and had a salad last night. Not really what I call "cheating". I'm going to call the doctor and see what he has to say.
-
Time4me--my diet is SUPPOSED to be three protein shakes a day. That's it (well, I can also have chicken broth and sugar free popsicles but I stopped doing the chicken broth because of all the sodium). After gaining another pound yesterday I threw a tantrum and ate a salad with tuna (not tuna salad) and low fat low carb salad dressing. I'm getting really discouraged.

Ok, group. I need a little pick me up. I lost 14 pounds on this liquid diet in 9 days. Stupidly, to Celebrate, I went over to a friend's house and had a no/low carb dinner with (a lot of) wine. Woke up Saturday and felt like I was in college--I couldn't stop throwing up. When all was said and done I had lost another 3 pounds (which hit my goal for getting the surgery on Sept. 18 so in a way I was glad, although severely worn out). Since Saturday, I have gained 5 pounds. I can't figure it out. I'm still on the liquid diet, doing everything the same. Why am I gaining weight? :help:

Thank you very much for this post. I'm due to be banded on Sept. 18 and have been trying hard to find articles about complaints/tests/long terms effects, etc. of this procedure and have had difficulty. I really appreciate the information. One thing: it said the study years ended in 2003. Is there a more recent study out there or have things not changed much since 2003? Again, thanks for the post.

Congratulations puglvr4life! I'm hoping they still let me go forward on Sept. 18. I still have to lost between 4 and 9 pounds.
-
Congratulations on the surgery! Makes me feel better about the decision hearing things went so well. I'm really concerned about the gas pain issue.
-
I just went to the doctor today to weigh in (I had to go on a liquids only diet because I had gained weight between consults) and found out I lost 11 pounds since last Wednesday! I just need to lose between 4 and 9 pounds before September 17. Let's hope I can do it. On a side note, I'd give anything for a tomato right now. Is that really called cheating?
-
It wasn't the insurance company's call--I'm self pay. It was the doctor. I stupidly thought the weight loss issue before surgery was just a "suggestion" not a requirement. They showed me.

Hi everyone. My date just got moved from Sept 11 to Sept 18 because I had gained weight (5 lbs!) instead of losing 10. So I'm on a liquid diet (day 2) and have to lose 15 pounds by Sept. 17. I'm wondering if anyone has had to lose that much in that short of a period? Yesterday was horrible with the caffeine withdrawal but today seems to be going better. I've lost 6.5 pounds since Tuesday. Is that possible? I saw the post about things getting better after day 3 and that really helped me. Good luck to everyone. Anyone having theirs done in Dallas? Kelly Dr. James Davidson, Dallas, Texas :hungry:

I'm set for 9/18, but only if I lose 15 lbs by then. On liquid diet from hell.:faint:

Calling all cheaters!!
katmeg99 replied to guinessgirl77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the surgeon for my 2 wk pre-op yesterday (surgery is 9/18) and found out I had gained 5 lbs. Now I'm on an all liquid diet. I have to lose 15 lbs by 9/17. I'm one day into this and I have a horrible headache. Don't know if it's caffeine or food withdrawal. I don't know how I'm going to do this for 2 more weeks! Any advice? Can I have broth? I'm already tired of the sweet stuff as I am not a sweet eater. One more crystal light and I think I'm going to scream! Sorry to sound so negative.
