I am scheduled to have my band replaced on Nov. 16th. He is taking my Allergan(I think) out and putting in a Realize band (I was told it was his preference). They sent me to to 2 wellness classes that were not around when I was originally banded. I'm excited to have the chance to start over. I start my pre-op diet this Monday.

looking for someone who has been rebanded
mrlddst replied to cameron1209's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is funny we got our original bands on the same day in 2006 and now we are being rebanded the same week. I am going with the realize band, I wasn't given a choice though. I went to the doc and she looked at my xrays and said I had a slip and that they wanted to put in the Realize because it was "better". She really didn't elaborate and I didn't really ask alot of questions other than insurance related questions and how soon. I had to go to two nutrition clinics to "refresh" my memory on how to eat with the band. I haven't heard anyone really compare the two (WHO HAS HAD BOTH). But I'm curious too, if not I will know soon enough anyway. -

How did the surgery go? I'm being rebanded with the Realize band next month and wanted to know how long you have to wait for a fill. Are you getting better results with this band? -
I started the C25K program last week. I downloaded the program on my Itouch and made myself a nice playlist. I had to put up some dough for some orthopedic tennis though :frown: I got shin splints really bad after the 1st run, put me down for a whole day. Since the replacement, shins are fine and I ready to run!! Quick question though...what is a good walking pace and running pace? I look around and feel like my jog isn't fast enough.

Hey Marivan, Thanks for the encouragement. I have done it all....logged my food, stuck to the band rules, exercise. I know my two problem areas and recognizing when I'm full and exercising and I am working on both. Currently, I have no fluid in my band. My doctor wants to take this one out due to slippage and replace it with an "more modern" band. I see this as my chance to get it right, most don't get that chance. I have been going to a psych to talk about my eating habits and some nutrition classes because my doc is being retrained himself or so the nurses told me. So now I wait for a new surgery date and continue to eat right and exercise.....Thanks again. Oh and about that scale, I don't weigh myself very often but I do have it out when I get the urge. I think I will hide it.

Are you referring to me, Marivan or the OP? I'm have been teetering on on the same 10lbs for the last two years.
-
I'm three years out too, where are all the other three year plus people? I definitely know where you are coming from. I wish I could offer you more but I'm sort of in the same boat.

I had a problem with this. I would wake up choking and normally end up throwing something up. This was not from over eating or eating too late though. I had a barium swallow done last month and it showed that I definitely had reflux and that my band had slipped. So please go check it out!

I just wanted to wish you luck!! -
Wow, it has been a long time! I was banded in June 2006. I lost about 50 lbs but never anymore than that. I was just told at the beginning of this month that I had a band slip and I am waiting on a surgery date. They want to put some new fangled band in. They took all of my fluid out and while I love not choking in my sleep and constant acid reflux, I miss my restriction.

Poll: How many have acid reflux problems?
mrlddst replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I go through the same thing. Take zantac an hour before bed and I'm usually okay. If I forget, I regret it horribly! I end up drinking pepto out of the bottle. I sleep in an elevated position. -

mrlddst replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have developed GERD and asthma due the GERD. I take a dose of Aubuterol and Zantac faithfully before bed. If I forget I'm usually up at 2 am drinking pepto straight out of the bottle and coughing my lungs out. It sucks big time. I go to my fill doc tomorrow and we are definitely going to discuss my options. -
Don't get me wrong...I am grateful to have loss that much weight. Not a week goes by that someone doesn't ask me what am I doing to lose the weight. To answer your question, after first getting the band I was eating small amounts of food but I still felt hungry allllllll the time. Eventually after about a year of fills I got to a point where I was feeling good about my fill level. However, my body didn't feel the same way. I had acid reflux every day and at night even though I ate at 6pm I would wake up choking on food or spit that built up in my throat while I was sleeping. It got to the point where I was sleeping sitting up out of fear that I would choke. At that point, I was down to 190. This was sept of 07. Well, Dr. Wohlgemuth took it all out and I lost control and gained 30lbs in the interim. Well, after they had me xrayed, poked and prodded, they said it was safe to go back to getting fills again, hence I have lost the weight that I put back on but I could have been further to goal if I would have exercised some constraint. To be honest....I loved every minute of having my band unfilled....but I would rather have my fills.

I just got back from the 1st informational session and I was impressed by the surgeons. But they told me that out of the years that they have been performing WLS they have only done 3 lap band surgeries out of 700 surgeries due to insurance problems. I just don't want to end up going to the appointment and they try to convince me that RNY is the solution when I know its not for me. They want you to pay $395 upfront after they do the insurance check. Anybody else have anything similar happen.

My doc is Dr. Wohlgemuth. He admitted that he just likes laproscopic surgeries, nothing more. I like his honesty. I haven't reached goal. I'm farrrr away from my goal, but its my own fault. I am down almost 50 lbs from my pre-band weight and still losings. Some days are better than the others. Sometimes I hate my band other days, I love it.

Hey Bandit Girl, I posted that message a longggg time ago. At time they had just started doing bands. I was a candidate for either and they did my band. It was a very smart decision. I still go there to get my fills and I am very pleased with their professionalism.

I'm so happy, Cigna approved my lapband surgery!!! Once the paperwork was actually recieved it only took a day (had a few problems with the doctors office). Just to cover it for anyone who might have questions like I did. I have Cigna PPO in Virginia. I submitted the psych letter, PCP and a nutrionist 6 mos of records from seeing them both each month, letters from my PCP and GYN. The only problem now is that my surgeon is booked solid through April, luckily I do have a cruise to enjoy at the beginning of May. I will wine and dine myself like crazy before hand.

Hi everyone, Just thought I join in! I was banded in June '06. I lost a solid 60 lbs over the last year and a half. With my last fill I became severly restricted and ended up having to have a total unfill and now I'm starting over with the fills again. I did regain about 30 of the pounds, but I blame myself for not stopping myself from eating the wrong foods. I was sooo happy to be able to swallow, I lost my mind and ate in celebration. I am working on it now though and I'm back in the gym, I've dropped 10 pounds in 2 weeks and my fill appt is this week.

I haven't posted in a long time......I posted recent pics on the pic forum. Anyhow....I have a hard time eating rice and french fries. My worst enemy is the McDonalds Chicken Nugget!!! One day, I'll get you, and your little dog too :0 I try to eat slowly, but when things get stuck its not pretty.

Before and After Lap Band Surgery - PICTURES ONLY
mrlddst replied to DeLarla's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I finally decided to post. It has been a while. I guess I was scared of comparing myself with the other photos, but even though my loss is not uber-great, the doctor says I'm on target to hit my goal by next year. I guess I was feeling like a failure and ashamed to post. Honestly looking at some of these great photos, I think how did they do it!! Wowser!!!I can tell a big difference and I this is what matters most. The first is me at a Xmas party in Dec 2005, the second is a trip to Cancun this summer. I have lost about 50lbs. -
I'm feeling much better a week later! It took a while but I can finally eat solids with no problem. Now I can't eat much but I'm not throwing up anymore.

I have been looking around for a couple of days but can't find an answer to my questions. I recently went in for a fill, Thurs as a matter of fact. Anyway, I was at 7cc in a 12 cc band. I wasn't haven't really felt restricted lately so he took me up to 8 but I think it maybe a tad too much. I haven't been able to hold food down since then. I would have it taken out but now I'm thinking this is what I should I be at. Maybe I have been eating too much. I haven't lost any weight this month and since the fill on Thurs, I've drop 7 lbs. I have dropped down to eating soup, or chicken/tuna salad (not much of it 2 or 3 teaspoons). I had grits for breakfast this morning and that came up to. Am I too filled?
-
Well my doc told me to stick to liquids for 24-48 hrs (fill was thurs). which I did however I was unable to eat after that. I am happy to report that my band is cooperating with me now. I am able to chew and swallow solids
-
I haven't talked to the doctor yet. I talked to another local bandster and some friends that see both of us all the time. They say that they always felt that I could eat wayyy more than her so now maybe what I'm feeling is true restriction. I also thought that I would give it until tommorrow. This is how today went. This morning - protein shake (after a vitamin) - made it my job parking lot and it all came back up. Tried a hot tea to settle my stomach afterwards and I couldn't swallow much. Lunch (feeling better) - I ate the cheese off of the cheese pizza, I was weary of the crust. Ate a baked potato, I had no problem. Got home around 5 - 3 teaspoons or chix salad with crackers and I'm managing. I will call tomorrow and have some taken out.
