3 month post op

I like your attitude!
2. I am thinking that using a straw would cause no problem if you do the same as when you sip a glass of Water - sip, no gulp! Take a sip from the straw and wait a bit to see how it feels. Pay attention to your body, just as you have already learned.
3. Hey Mooncat! I also will be traveling soon with my little sleeve. By the time we go 'wheels up' for out scuba vacation I will be about nine weeks out from surgery. Since my first month is an all-liquid diet, I will be well into smooshies and soft foods by the time I leave. My sister did ask if I would consider hold off the surgery until after our vacation. My reply was - NEVER. I may not be able to eat everything my dive buddies eat, but I can participate in everything and enjoy a glass of Water while they have their cheeseburgers in paradise. I plan to take dry Protein power to mix with purchased bottled water for use on the plane and in my room. The Protein powder will be my fall-back when good meal choices are slim. We will have menu options such as Soups and and lots of fresh-caught ocean fish that I am really looking forward to eating. I will miss eating the cibatta bread, but that isn't on my list of edibles any more. Staying very hydrated will be my primary goal, so I will be bringing several of my favorite water bottles. Where we are going has the best-tasting pure water right out of the tap, so filling a bottle and keeping it handy will be easy. Then my next goal is to to maintain the right amount of protein. My dive buddies and I usually end up dropping a few pounds over the vacation, even with eating as much as we normally do - its an active vacation with lots of lifting, moving and swimming. I suppose I will miss the alcohol part of our vacation, but I don't often drink at home, so it shouldn't be too tough to bypass. I really don't feel 'deprived' any more like I did pre-surgery when I choose to not eat/drink something that isn't going to work for me. I guess I've turned a page on that, and it makes me happy. I anybody has some special tips that helped them during travel, please chime in!

2 weeks out

I am a week and a half out of sleeve surgery. I had a nine pound loss in the first week, probably mostly fluids, but now I have been staying the same for almost five days. My doctor says I'm doing great, since first seeing him I have lost 1/3 of my body weight. I would love to see a bit of a loss each day, too. I'm whining, but also think I'm still on track.

Sorry, support friends! I am still figuring out how to work this web site. Hope you are both doing well!

Post op

Yeah, it hurts. I am five days post-op and am still taking the liquid oxycodone - not quite as religiously as when I first came home from the hospital, but I make sure I get some regularly, if not always on time. I have been experimenting with laying on my side, one or the other, but it isn't working. I sleep flat out on my back and that is all that works. Maybe tonight I will be able to curl up on my side. I'm not taking full showers yet, so my husband took me over to a shop and I got my hair washed. It was great, got a wash, comb-out and blow dry and it was only $3. Totally worth not having to figure out how to keep my incisions dry!!! The large incision is the only one that has ever hurt, but that is the one that burns like wild fire when I try to roll out of bed. I've found myself lying in bed for a half-hour or more trying to work up the courage. Each time it hurts, I tell myself, "That is the last time it is going to hurt that bad because I am healing so fast.". My Occupational Therapist daughter called and explained carefully how to do the 'Log Roll' to get out of bed. I think I was doing it right, but it still hurts at that one point between the bed and the floor. Is anybody else cold? I'm freezing and can't seem to get warmed up! I'm certainly not used to being cold.

Surgery Tomorrow

My surgery is the day after tomorrow, Tuesday! Looks like we will be traveling this road together. I'll be thinking of you and sending you good vibes, prayers and healing thoughts on Monday.
8. Does anyone out there use a Vitamix to make meals? I haven't had my surgery yet, but am trying to get ideas.

Sad

I am so sorry your mom wasn't physically here to be by your side. She sounds like a wonderful woman. Keep up the good work, she is watching from the other side.
10. I have been at 1000 calories per day and 70 gm of protein. Need to stay away from any carbs except what comes from vegetables.

Just started liquids

Should be much better after three days. My doctor isn't having me go to only liquids before the surgery. Can you explain why your doctor is requesting this?
12. My baby brother (he wasn't 'little' any more since he had gained so much weight) died in his sleep unexpecedly a year ago due to being overweight. He was scary-fat, diabetic, high blood pressure and had sleep apnea - 54 years old. I am three years older, have very similar genetics and have also been scary-fat. This was my eye-opener. I lost 30 lbs over the last year on my own and I see it is now time to add weight -loss surgery to my tool kit.
