I am day 7 post op. The first three days were the worst for me. But it really does get better. FYI ask your doctor to prescribe a liquid pain med like Tylenol with codeine. That's the only one I can take that doesn't make me nauseus. Made a big difference for me. The other was getting my protein in. I started putting vegetable protein in my broth. Good luck. Keep your heads up

Sleeve question - hunger hormone?
karinbuck replied to snowkitten's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only a week post op. But so far I would say yes this is true. I have felt mildly hungry a few times. My doctor said this would happen and that the hormone does eventually return. -
Jerseygrl09. Good luck. I'm a jersey girl also. I'm in the Trenton area. I had my sleeve done last week and I have had some downer moments this week. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I am already down 10 pounds.

I didnt realize how much i would miss food
karinbuck posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so this feeling comes and goes. I'm a week post op and on a very positive note I am down 10 lbs. I'm still on the liquid phase and hopefully the doctor will let me start on soft foods tomorrow. I am nervous about starting on food. However sometimes I miss it. I realize it won't be forever. But I keep thinking how much I would love a good piece of bread with some cheese. -

I def only have moments of missing it. The rest of the time I almost feel free. Free of meal planning and going to the store and buying way more than I need. It's really kind of nice. I just have crazy craving moments. -
Could i have stretched it already?
karinbuck posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm post op day 6. I had a very stressful day today. Went to my primary doc for shoulder pain(surgeon thinks it's unrelated). I've been staying at my parents house during my recovery because I have two very large dogs who tend to jump at my house. So my husband and I pull up to my parents house and notice the door is open. Long story short we interrupted a burglary in progress. The bad guys got away, but we are ok. Anyway after I calmed down I started to drink water and my protein drink. Without realizing it I got down an 11 oz protein drink and some water within half an hour. Could I have stretched it out? I had no discomfort. -
I went back to my chiro today. And he feels it is definitely muscular. He described almost like a bad Charlie horse in my shoulder. He thinks it had something to do with dehydration.

I Am 6 days post op. All is going well, except 3 days ago I woke up with extreme pain in my right shoulder. I can barely move my arm and the area around the socket is tender to the touch. I called my surgeon. My surgeon does not believe it's gas. I went to my chiro and he is stumped. I went to my primary and she thinks it's gas from the surgery. Sooo I have no straight answer and I'm still in a lot of pain. I can only take Tylenol and I can barely sleep because of it. Has anyone else expierienced this?

I'm honestly not convinced that it is gas. I'm thinking somehow I tore something

I've been walking and walking. No relief. I've been icing, heating, and electronic stim. Nothing is working

Sleeping in the bed has been excruciating so I've ended up sleeping in the recliner chair.

Taking it day by day!

I am six days post op. The first 3 days were awful. I could not tolerate cold and all I had was pre made protein drinks. So my friend picked me up some non flavored vegetable protein. I add it to chicken or beef broth. I feel like it made a huge difference for me. -

Just curious was your shoulder tender to the touch. It feels like my shoulder is bruised and I can barely move my arm. I called my surgeon and he doesn't feel it's related to the surgery, but my primary does. So I can't move my arm and no one will do anything to help -
How much walking should i be doing?
karinbuck posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three days post op and I walked a little less than a 1/4 mile today. Is that enough? Should I be walking more? -

Thanks. Just want to make sure I don't overdo it. -
I'm on day 5 and feeling much better. I had issues with cold drinks so started putting vegetable protein in chicken broth. I think it made a huge difference . I hope your all doing better.

A few years ago I was diagnosed with something called Polycystic ovarian syndrome. It is actually a very common problem amongst overweight women. It causes irregular periods and small cysts in the ovaries. It is also linked with weight gain, diabetes, and heart disease. PCOS is one of the reasons why I finally decided to have weight loss surgery. There is not much awareness about it and although I had textbook symptoms since I was a teen. I was not diagnosed until my 30s. Anyway my point is talk to your Obgyn about your irregular periods. It's important to get your hormones under control.

I had my sleeve done yesterday. The pain meds were making me nauseus. So I had to stop Taking them. I'm still fighting the nausea, but now with more pain. In general I feel awful. Now I'm regretting my decision and thinking I should have tried harder with my diet and excercise. Has anyone felt this way? Did it last long?
-
I just had my sleeve done this past Thursday. The morphine made me sick and on the second day I was completely miserable. But once I got home I started to feel a bit better. Trying to get some decent nutrition on this liquid diet feels a bit difficult for me. But I'm learning and fighting my way through it. I hope each day gets a little better.

Thank you. It's definitely nice to know that I'm not the only one having these feelings. The doctor got me a different pain med and now that I'm home tonight, I'm starting to feel better. I think I was so excited about the surgery before, that I did not expect to have those feelings. I'm sure it won't be the last time for me. But now I know a little better.

Telling people Im having weight loss surgery.
karinbuck posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is march 20th. I'm kind of an open book and I have told people that I'm having the sleeve. As I expected some were excited for me, some were polite, and some close concerned friends tried to talk me out of it. Like I said I expected all of this. But some people have been downright rude. Today I went to get baseline bloodwork done. The staff at my lab know me due to my other illnesses. So the lab technician was commenting that this is not the usual test that I get. So I told her it's because I'm having weight loss surgery. She actually said "oh no!" Than told me a horror story of someone she knows who had it done, who is very sick now. I was polite and said oh that's ashame. Then she asked me if I have tried diet and excercise. Ummm no, never even crossed my mind! I remained polite and stated that I crossfit three times a week. It just really annoys me that people make assumptions about me because of my weight. I'm sure you all have similar stories. -
Telling people Im having weight loss surgery.
karinbuck replied to karinbuck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a revelation today. Maybe it's the pre op diet talking. Lol. Anyway like I said before, I'm an open book kind of person and I have told everyone about my upcoming surgery. I realized that I don't really care what others think. The people closest to me have been behind my decision, even the ones who don't agree with it. I am also realizing that this surgery is definitely not "the easy way out". As most people would have us believe. -
My pre op consult with my surgeon is next week. I think I have most of the basic questions. Such as recovery time, diet, and excercise. Is there anything else it should ask?

Hi Im new here and have some workout questions.
karinbuck posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery is march 20th, and I have not gotten specified instructions on my workout limitations. I am a very active person. I crossfit 2 to 3 times a week, and low impact cardio 2 times a week. I'm assuming it will be a few months before I'm back at crossfit. What is the average time that people can not lift weight? Are energy problems common? Or dehydration?
