karensdRN replied to karensdRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any other peeps out there that have noticed slower weight loss when they only had 70 or so pounds to lose? I heard the less you need to lose the slower it comes off. True? Or not? -

3 week stall at 3 months, halfway to goal
karensdRN posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. So my pre op weight was 198. I had surgery April 4th. My doctors goal for me is to lose 70 pounds total. My weight is stuck at 162. I know I haven't been exercising enough. I fractured my foot. I also don't think I'm getting enough calories in. Will the scale start moving again? I'm scared I'm done losing at 3 months. Any words of wisdom out there? Especially since I have a broken foot. -
I'm also 11 weeks out. I'm 5'1 and my BMI was about 36-37 with mild sleep apnea. My nurse practitioner and NUT told me to try to gain some weight during my six month approval time. My pre op after five day liquid diet was 198. I'm happy to say I'm down 37 lbs. my surgeon says I'm half way to his goal of 70 lbs total weight loss. I haven't exercised much either. I'm trying to fix that. All in all I'm thrilled with my life. I'm able to work 12 hours shifts on my feet, tie my shoes and cross my legs. Life is goood!!!

Foul smelling farts/poop
karensdRN replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before surgery I would toot several times an hour!!! Post op my gas has decreased sooo much. Not as stinky either. I guess another added bonus from having the surgery. Family are very happy about this change. -

Itchy insicions?
karensdRN replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had an allergic reaction to the dermabond. I was a mess. I went to urgent care and was put high dose steroids for a week. My incisions were welted and swollen and red. I itched so bad. The meds really helped. I also had a very bad allergic reaction first night in hospital. The doc doesn't know if it was the anesthesia, pain meds, or antibiotic given in the OR. My entire body itched. Even the inside of my nostrils !!! I've never had an allergic reaction to anything in my 47 years. And I've had many surgeries with dermabond and was fine. So who knows. Feel better! -
Having hard time getting motivated at six weeks out. Would love to hear from those who didn't exercise before surgery and have found exercise habits postop.

6 weeks today and stalled for almost two weeks:(
karensdRN replied to karensdRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My goal is 60-80 grams a day. I too drink premier shakes , two a day. My new thing is black bean burgers which have 10 grams of protein and 4 grams of fat. I try to eat one a day. String cheese goes down ok. Yogurt and cottage cheese doesn't taste good anymore. I hope my motivation to start exercising comes once I start working. I will try those apps you mentioned to keep better track. Thanks for your help!!!! -
6 weeks today and stalled for almost two weeks:(

Never had the three week stall. Mine started at 4.5 weeks. I'm sure this normal. My taste is very picky post op. But still am trying things out. Get in two Protein shakes and enough fluids a day. I go back to work in two days and know what food I will bring to get me through my long 12 hour days as a nurse. I don't think I'm getting enough protein. Any suggestions? Also what are the people who weren't active pre-op doing now? Please be honest about this question. I am finding it hard to get motivated. HW 202 SW197 Current weight 175. HELP -

Wow! How inspiring. Sounds like both of us started at the same weight. I'm 4 weeks out and down 22 lbs. Having problems eating and drinking enough but I'm trying. Walking in treadmill starts this week. I just get so lightheaded. Otherwise I feel great. Fitting into clothes from last year. Did you have any intake problems one month out?

Once again I go back to work on the 17th. Hahaha. I don't like autocorrect at times!

Hi Malsr, It's Karen. There is a support group next Monday at Scripps memorial at 5:30. When is the Thursday group? I can go to either one. I'm until the 17th of this month.

For me at 4 weeks post op, my magic number is three sips every 5-10 minutes. Took me awhile to figure that out! Good luck to you!
