I am having a really bad day-as in Water is making my band angry! I normally can't eat before lunch time but can manage a tea/coffee. Its late afternoon and am still struggling with water. Any suggestions on how to loosen this thing off so I can manage something more than a sip of water? Is there a trick to making it move a little????

Does anyone wear a Medical Alert Bracelet??
teeny83 replied to teeny83's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Without sounding too blonde as I am not sure of the exact translation into medical terms it basically means not to intubate (tube down ur throat to help you breathe in case of emergency) without using a fibroscope thing. Those things with a camera so they can see where the tube is going. Its in case they push and cause damage somehow to our tum tums!!! That make sense?? Hope so!! -
Hi Guys. Am trying to find a Melbourne surgeon-I am post op and all just for fills. What are the costs and where/who?? Thanks!!

What you eat on an average day?

I wish I could tell you what I eat is the "right" diet but realistically this is what I eat. I am a year post op so am on solids. Today I ate: Breakfast-tea with splenda and lite milk Lunch- Velish pumpkin Soup Snack-Watermelon Dinner-chicken fillet (small) and some grilled eggplant and capsicum. Snack-Watermelon (kinda addicted at the moment!!) I am by NO MEANS perfect at this and slip all the time but just remember you are human-the band assists not cures any bad eating habits. You need to deal with the mental struggle of overeating more than anything I have found but its an interesting life! Good Luck!!! -
Reading what everyone is eating and drinking I am confused? My surgeon told me I was NOT to have any protein shakes etc and anything that was liquid should be zero calories so basically a small amount of diet sodas or water. Has anyone got any ideas on why he would be saying this seeing as I see shakes all over everyones menu....I am confused!! And not losing so sad....

I was never "distended" and I don't think I was visibly bloated really. Take the degas and peppermint tea if u can stomach it. Think about this with regards to the dress-preop diet of optiyuck I lost 10kgs so a little bloating would have been unnoticed.!! Good luck and have a great birthday-best present you can give yourself...

Try to avoid it but good luck! Its kinda how you learn what you can and can't eat-I KNOW I can't eat tuna from a can thanks to PB. Sometimes it just won't go down so must come back up. Its not as bad as vomit-no bile etc seeing as the food never reaches your stomach-just in ur pouch. Don't worry-when it happens cough it up and its fine. Perfectly normal-but it shouldn't happen often or ur band is too tight and ur eating the wrong foods.

Basics is really all you need-some PJs and change of clothes, toiletries!! For coming home remember to get some de-gas or peppermint tea!! Thats the one thing I forgot to do because the gas they put in ur abdomen during the surgery rises to ur shoulders post surgery and it gets uncomfy!! Its honestly not as bad as you imagine it is going to be so don't stress and good luck!! Take care and follow the instructions of the dr's. Oh...and take the morphine when its offered!!!

Hi Banders... I am feeling like a failure because I am 8 months post op and have only lost 19.5kgs. I know why I haven't, I drink so I am no doubt washing it all down and making more room to eat right?? Any recommendations on stopping this?? I am getting tightened in a month and hoping this might help...

Thanks for the words of encouragement...and I think thats true that I need to stop comparing myself!! I am due for a fill but seeing as I was going overseas I am putting it off until when I get home. I have tried in the last couple days the no drinking...or even tiny tiny sips and its working for me already!! Haven't jumped on the scales but I can handle the lack of fluids... Thanks again!!

I only paid $110 for intial consultation and all after care and surgery and literally EVERYTHING (except blood tests made pre surgery) were covered by medicare. And because I had it done in a regional hospital my wait was about 4 months from seeing the surgeon.

Hi, Just wondering about the optifast things...they taste foul when you make them to the instructions but i can handle it with some water added...is this ok?? Mum seems to think this would water it down and become less effective, whereas i was thinking its just like having some water with it?? Also, any suggestions on what else i can have in this stage?? Tricks?? :help:

Hey!! Yeah I asked about the "optiyuk" (love that) stage and whether i could have tony ferguson or celebrity slim but she said that celebrity was bad and the tony version require extra Vitamins and costs more in the long run. I am pre op at the moment...surgery October 31st. Starting Optifast on Monday. Adding jelly crystals to your shake is different...might try it!! I inherited some vanilla ones from my step father who had it done aswell and hated the shakes! I will check out the site...was thinking of adding coffee as well!! Just another excuse to feed my addiction!! :heh: Thanks for your suggestions!!!
