Okay Ladies - Let's talk skin!

I just turned 34 and have been worried about skin too. I'm 5'8, starting weight was 286, current weight is 254 (3 weeks out as of today). The one thing I have going for me is I was fat everywhere. I am sure I will have loose skin but pros still outweigh the cons!
  2. I'm very open about my weight since surgery. Everyone knows. Currently, I am 10lbs heavier then my hubby, hopefully that changes lol.
  3. I loved sweets before, but since surgery sweet doesn't taste good. Honestly, nothing does. I am thirsty and constantly sipping decaf tea or water but have yet to feel water. Food looks good, even taste good (well, some of the purées.... I'm only 3 weeks out). My birthday was Tuesday, we went out for frozen yogurt. 2 bites and I tossed mine, was too rich and too sweet, make me sick. I'm down 32 total pounds, 11 in the pre liquid diet and 21 since surgery. 104 lbs to go!
  4. Oh, and, we (mother in law) and I went to TJ. We each paid $3995. Included our liquids, hotel stay, everything. The only other expense was travel and parking, which was less then $200. Grandpa paid for both of us so technically I didn't pay anything.
  5. I don't know how to quote. To the person that says you can't drink the water in Mexico , they provide you with bottled water (from Costco). Honestly, I have issues anyway so I always drink bottled water when I go out of town. And it can't be arrowhead, that causes problems too.

    6 weeks so far

Is there a normal? I think every individual will loose weight differently. 150 kg is like 330lbs, 14 kg is about 31 lbs? I think? I'm so bad at converting. I'm not quite 2 weeks out so not sure what the norm is. I do know 2 other people that had surgery the same time I did. I have lost 15 pounds post op, my MIL has lost 16 lbs, and the other person has lost 7 lbs. I lost 11 lbs on the 5 day pre op diet, my MIL did 3 days and lost 5 lbs, the other woman did it for 2 weeks and list 9lbs.

    I hate liquids

I feel for you totally. I've been having a rough time with artificial sweeteners. I get these obnoxious headaches. Even the crap they use in the shake mix . Not fun to deal with when you have a 14 month old running you ragged! I can start purées Saturday. Never thought I'd be so excited for applesauce, grits, and other mushy food. I did get permission to eat butternut squash soup after the first week, thinned out with fat free milk. I also found unflavored protein powder to add to it. I can get down 1/4 cup, takes me about 10-15 minutes. I saw a recipe with broccoli, skim ricotta cheese, and roasted garlic I'm anxious to try. It looks super good. The funny thing with this surgery, food looks and smells and even sounds good. But. I still don't feel hungry or even really want it.
  8. Btw, you may want to confirm but I think dr A now uses hotel Camino Real. I believe he changed to that hotel 2-10.
  9. They drove us to a tourist area in a group. We walked around for about an hour. I bought a little dress for my baby and a couple shot glasses. Spent $15. Don't ever pay what they ask, they expect you to haggle with them. They will try and give you a shot of tequila at every store, don't of it. Also remember that food, alcohol, etc will be confiscated at the border. Ask the driver. Take small bills to tip. Take your own broth/bouillon. The broth they have is gross. They freeze their jello so you may want to take that too, and your own ready made protein shakes. They have an endless supply of Popsicles, plenty of juice and bottled water. They will supply all of that included in your price. The worst part of the entire process is the blue dye and the rotten grapefruit tasting stuff you have to drink on x ray day. Getting the drainage tube out sucks too. I room shared with my mother in law. You pass gas mostly on day 2 and feel so crappy you don't really care. If you have a private room you have to pay extra. You won't have a private room day of surgery, there were 3 to a room. TV is available in the room but predominately Spanish. They offer free wifi. You may want to set up a plan so you can call from Mexico before you go. I have Verizon, it was $15 for 1000 minutes (or 99 cents a minute with no plan). Texts are 5 cents to receive, 50 cents to send. Crossing the border back into the US takes forever so be prepared for a wait. If you drive, parking is $18 a day. We drove, I'm only 4 hours from San Diego.
  10. Seriously though, there isn't much pain. I went shopping and everything without pain meds.
  11. They didn't give anything to anyone else. Just antibiotics.
  12. They take down what you are allergic to and accommodate that. I stopped pain meds after I went to the hotel. They sent me home with cipro for 8 days. They also sent me home with tramadol which I didn't take. When I went home from my hysterectomy I only took 1 5mg Percocet for the first week I was home. Was I in pain? Oh yeah but I hate drugs. Oddly though, no one else in my group was given tramadol. Not sure why I was.

    Bakersfield, Ca

I'm in Bako, had my surgery 2-14-14.
  14. I had sleeve surgery with Dr A on 2-14-14. The hospital is a maternity hospital, about 4 babies were born the day we had surgery. Very clean, nice nurses, awesome care. My mil and I had it together and stayed at Camino Real hotel. Nice hotel, 5 stars there probably 3.5-4 in CA. They took us shopping the day before we left (Omar was the driver). My MiL is 58 and diabetic, I am 33 and just had a radical hysterectomy in May (early stage uterine cancer). No complications for either of us. I was scared to death, I don't speak Spanish and you hear horror stories. Half the nurses spoke English, those that didn't apologized and tried to communicate with you. I had a great experience, best care I have received at a hospital ever.
  15. Hi, my name is Jessica. I am a married 33 year old SAHM of a 13 1/2 month old little girl and uterine cancer survivor. On Valentines day my MIL and I both had gastric sleeve surgery, so we are 10 days out. I am so tired of this liquid diet. Ok, the liquids aren't that bad. The protein shakes are atrocious and I'm not sure how much longer I can gag them down. I have always had a problem with "fake" sweeteners so I think the headache is from them. I lost 11 pounds in the 5 day pre diet surgery and have lost 14 more pounds. I weighed 286 before the pre liquid diet and am currently at 261. I have 0 appetite though I am always thirsty and am constantly sipping water. I can't stand anything sweet right now and everything taste sweet, even water (I add lemon juice). Other then that, I feel fine. With a very active 13 month old I have yet to start my walks again, chasing after her takes it out of me. I have gone for walks but don't quite have the energy for the walks I was doing pre surgery (was at 2.5-3 miles at least 4 days a week). I miss eating, the taste of food, but I don't really crave it. I wanted sorbet so bad, had a bite, was done. My MIL had French fries today ( on day 10 - yikes) and the thought of eating them made my tummy gurgle in protest. Anyway, it has not been a pleasant week and a half but I'm sure things get better! My goal is 150, I have 111 pounds to go.
  16. Ty! So not going to be a problem, grease and I never really got along anyway Bread, cheese, pasta, rice - those are my main downfalls. I love chicken (only eat boneless, skinless breast anyway, though I do like them oven friend on occasion) and veggies. Honestly, I have always eaten fairly healthy. I just eat enough for 4 people in one sitting. Or ate enough. I'm not really doing sugar free Popsicles but I did find all natural lemon fruit pops with 70 calories. I can only eat half at a time and allow myself half a day now.
