I have 7 incisions sites... no staples just glue. I have had no problems with stairs. My bedroom is on the 2nd floor. I go up and down a few times a day. I do hold the railing, but I always did.

Post-op hospital stay
Two.Penguins replied to KBlood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 4 days ago. I had a 3 night stay. Apparently my body did not like the pain pump...whatever it was it made me dry heave. That was the worst. As soon as I figured it out I stopped using the pain pump. I ended up getting a few shots of Toradol. ... what a difference!!! I got to come home last night and I have only used the pain medication twice.... I think I am doing pretty well! The gas is the worst, but that is just temporary. Right?? Good luck future sleevers!! You can do this! -

Update: yesterday was pure hell. Apparently I was having a reaction to the pain meds. I was dry heaving ALL day. Today is MUCH better. Yeah!!! I can't wait to go home. Today is do different from yesterday. I think the only pain I have is from the dry heaving and not the surgery. It will get better. My loving Hubby has been with me the whole time. Yeah for him!! -

Surgery date 3/3/14 .. and how it came about
Two.Penguins posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My Husband and I go to the Seminar on Dec 17th 2013. I already knew before going that I wanted the gastric bypass. At that time I never even heard of the sleeve I did learn of the sleeve at the Seminar but still leaning toward the bypass. The Seminar lasted a few hours they go over a lot. I know several people that have had gastric bypass and one person who has had the lap band. So I know a lot already. ... anyhow. At the end of the seminar they give you a pamphlet and tell you to contact your insurance company since everyone is different. I needed to find out what exactly my requirements are from my insurance co. 1st was a 3 month medically supervised diet. 2nd was that I had a BMI of : either 40 or 35 with co morbidities. 3rd was note from my PCP. 4th was that I have a note from a Psychiatrist. My 1st Appt with the surgeon was also set up at this time for Jan 23rd. On Jan 4th I had an appt with my PCP for refills on some scripts so while I was there I just asked her if she would write me a note saying I would benefit from WLS and she did.... so one requirement down! The very next night Jan 5th my BP shot up to 186/98 and I started having some chest pains. My Husband took me to the ER and they admitted me. They ran several tests. EKG, chest X-ray the whole nine yards. They didn't find anything. I followed up with a specialist and was told it was probably gas... right? Jan 15th I see my Psychiatrist for my ADHD, while I a visiting him I ask if he can write a note saying I am good to go for WLS. He does. Yeah!! another requirement down!! My BMI is 37ish I also have the co morbidities. (main requirement) I had done a medically supervised diet for exactly 3 months just last year. June, July and Aug. When I did this diet I had no thoughts of surgery. I was really trying to lose weight. Those horrible pills. (Phentermine) The first month I lost 20lbs. The second month I lost nothing. The third month I lost nothing. That's when I said forget it. The pills aren't worth it. So I gained the 20lbs I lost back and then some. After that let down and some serious thinking I decided I would try and see if I would qualify for surgery. My 1st Dr visit Jan 23rd. I bring in ALL my paperwork. My note from my PCP, the note from my Psychiatrist, the paperwork from my 3 month medically supervised diet. I talk with the Dr. and we decide on the sleeve. This is what I want. No question about it. I am ready. I am told I need an EKG and a chest X-ray. I ask if the one from the Jan 5th ER visit would be ok and they said yes so I had to fax that over.... All I had to do was some blood work. I went across the street and had that done. Everything was turned into the insurance company on Jan 24th. My phone rang on Monday Jan 27th. I thought for sure she was going to say it was denied.... when she said APROVED. I cried. My surgery date is 3/3/14 .... This is my Journey -
Once I got the approval. ... Everyone knew!!

My first "hiccup" with the insurance company
Two.Penguins replied to Amyllf2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The "letter" from my Psychiatrist was scribbled on prescription. .. This is what it said " To whom it may concern : Two.Penguins is competent to give informed consent for gastric bypass surgery. There is no contraindication for this procedure. " .... That was it. Word for word, well with my real name of course. I also asked for it on a visit for my ADHD medication refill. It wasn't a special visit for the weight loss. -
I am 3/3.... 3 more days!!!

Surgery date 3/3/14 .. and how it came about
Two.Penguins replied to Two.Penguins's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am definitely struggling with the pre surgery diet... The 1st few days I was sick on top of starting the diet. That was no fun. I am over the headaches and weakness. I still get hungry but I am getting there. I have support from a great husband. I feel very blessed all the way around. -
I am new here... and reading all the troubles and hoops everyone goes through before getting approval baffles me. I know every Dr is different and every Insurance company has different rules. But why is it so different? It's crazy from what I see. I'm so sorry for all of you guy/girls that have so many problems. .... My "letter" from my PCP was just a note written on a script... This is what is said " The patient has a history of PCOS and a current BMI of 37.33 along with HTN. She would benefit from a gastric bypass for weight loss. " ... My "letter" from my Psychiatrist was a note written on a script ... This is what it said " To whom it may concern : Two.Penguins is competent to give consent for gastric bypass surgery. There is NO psychiatric contraindication for this procedure. " .....

FMLA and doctor's release to return to work - HELP!
Two.Penguins replied to elenasal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Apparently the company I work for isn't the "norm". I get 12 weeks a year of FMLA time. If I have worked 1250 hours over the previous 12 months. As of right now, in my "contract" I am union, I don't have to exhaust my vacation/personal time 1st. -
FMLA and doctor's release to return to work - HELP!
Two.Penguins replied to elenasal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too work for a large company. Everyone ends up knowing everyone's business somehow or another. As soon as I was approved I let everyone know. I figured they would all find out sooner or later anyways. I will be taking 3 weeks off. Using FMLA. I have been here just over 15 years so I will be getting full pay while I am out. I am one of the lucky ones with an awesome job with awesome insurance. My surgery is also covered 100 %. 5 more days!!! -

Two.Penguins replied to Queen In Me's topic in Insurance & Financing
I'm with VZ in FL. I think the contracts are different between the states. I didn't have any problems getting approval from Anthem BCBS. My 1st Dr visit was Jan 23rd 2014. I was approved Jan 27th . My surgery date is March 3rd. I'm expecting to be out 3 weeks with pay. -

$600 Bariatric Program Fee
Two.Penguins replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine has $400 fee also. Really not sure what it's actually for. It was not covered by insurance. I had to pay that out of pocket. I can't complain. My Dr. Visits are $15 and my surgery is covered 100 %.
