    Pissed Off Husband

Sorry you are going through this hon. It isn't your fault and don't let anyone guilt you into believing it is. You need support/ concern not blame. Hubby has problems and it isn't you...in my opinion.

    Depression and Hormones

I had my surgery over a year ago and the biggest setback was my mood swings. I wasn't depressed. I was homicidal!!! If I had committed murder I would have used my surgery as my defense. I wasn't in my right mind. I had incredible...can't stop energy after I healed up, and could have gotten all my house remodeling done by myself if it had lasted a while longer. The downside is..... I was angry that everybody else in the family wasn't as enthused about working as I was and couldn't keep up. I would fly into a rage at the drop of a hat. I'm not exaggerating. I told my physician that he needs to put more emphasis on hormones and the effect surgery will have on them in his preoperative meetings. He said that I was an unusual case and suggested I see a therapist. I did for two visits...nothing wrong with me other than sleep depravation because of hormones. I am through with menopause and believe me when I tell you that my worst "crazy" day didn't compare to what happened after my surgery. It took almost 8 months for my hormones to get back to normal. My temper is back to a slow simmer instead of a volcano. I'm still not sleeping well but that comes with older age too. So be prepared....and prepare your friends and family.

    18 months post op

You look good. Your body has had a major change. Don't worry about what other people think. Some people will criticize no matter what you do. Let's face it....some are jealous also. You are getting healthy, you look good. BE HAPPY ! I've lost from 247 to 170 with 25 more lbs to go....to reach my goal weight. I look and feel so much better. I too have had negative comments about me, about the surgery.

    Emotional meltdowns

P.S. Snowblue...... I'm a lot older than you. I'm almost 60. My weight is coming off slowly. I am losing more inches than weight.....how does that work? My fat clothes are all falling off me, and my large sizes are getting very loose. YEAH !!!!!

    Emotional meltdowns

I understand Snowblue. Most of us have had our "comfort" foods. It is WAY beyond not being comforted by food. It's like going through menopause all over again....how my husband stayed with me those years I don't know. I didn't take any hormone injections.... we all just toughed it out. My surgeon said it was the change in my hormones doing it, he told me to apologize to my husband for him. He said it would get less and less as my body got more use to some of the drastic changes happening to it. I told my surgeon he might want to mention "the estrogen effect" after gastric bypass in his seminars. It has been my greatest problem. Good luck to all of us. I'm proud that we have started our journey to better health together.

    Emotional meltdowns

Hi Steviefan1, Thanks so much for the encouragement. It gives me hope that "this too shall pass." My energy level is low and I upped my B12 to two a day. I am SO looking forward to the "happy" me, and I'm sure the rest of my family is also. Fran

    Emotional meltdowns

My doctor told me there would be hormone changes after surgery. Namely that I wouldn't be hungry. That has been all well and good but the hormones also gave me a new Dr. Jekyl, Mrs. Hyde personality. I am two and a half months out of gastric bypass and have spent a lot of the time either yelling or crying. Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas what to do? I have been extremely fortunate and haven't had any other problems other than this. My weight is coming off slowly but surely. I have no complaints.
  9. I thought my weight would come off faster too. My surgeon told me my hormones would change and that there would be a honeymoon phase where I probably wouldn't be hungry. Well, as in real life my honeymoon was very short. I am always hungry. As for other things.... I felt great the first three weeks....high energy and was able to sleep all night. But, I didn't think when he said hormone change he meant the crying/mad episodes like I had during menopause! I can't even stand myself!!!!I The changes in my body also kicked my Rheumatoid Arthritis out of remission and I'm in A LOT of pain and depression over that. I had my RNY on July 14. I lost 20 lbs pre-surgery and have lost almost another 20....but it's taken 5 weeks to do it on a 500-600 calorie diet. Because of the severe pain I've been in, I haven't been able to do my work or walking the last two weeks. I had very little pain after surgery. I have no food aversions and no dumping. I can eat anything. I guess it's going to be slow going with me.

    12 Weeks Post Op

It's my third day post op. I'm having nausea and cramps. No problems swallowing though. All my Vitamins and meds go down fine. The thought of food makes me sick. I couldn't drink the Isopure clear....money down the drain. It smelled and tasted too sweet. My coordinator told me to drink a small glass a skim milk with a teaspoon of Peanut Butter.... it helped the nausea. I am able to drink the Premier Protein shakes....a sip at a time. I can drink Water if it's flavored with Crystal Lite. I'm having to take the meds for nausea and cramping so I'm not totally alert, but I am still getting up walking and using my spirometer. I will be glad when the sickness goes away. I had a very easy surgery so I knew there would be a bump in the road somewhere Fran

    Anyone having surgery 7-15?

Hi Misty and Pik, I had my gastric bypass yesterday and it went great. I have none of the nausea, cramps, or excess gas that was expected. I took GasX thin strips and I believe that helped a lot. I got up today and made 10 laps around the surgery corridor and didn't feel much pain at all. My stomach is sore now but just feels like I have done a lot of sit ups. I'm so glad it's over and I'm on my way. I lost almost 10 lbs on my pre-surgery diet. So I will be counting down from 221. My beginning weight was 247. Good luck to you and hope your surgery goes as easily as mine. Once I got to the hospital I was completely calm. My hubby was a nervous wreck though until it was over. Fran
  14. Pik, Antibiotics were used years ago but the drug companies couldn't make the money off them that they do with the "designer" drugs. Have you read the side effects on Methotrexate? If not, here's a link.... http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682019.html I am off the antibiotics after taking them for just four months and am in remission. I had years of pain and agony using the other drugs. The antibiotics are Metronidazole 250 mg, twice daily, and minocycline 100 mg once a day. I also take CQ 10 with this. Dr. Sentef is crippled in his hands from his RA. He developed the program after not being able to get any relief from his own doctors. He's treated over 2000 RA patients and we all love him. It's worth a try. Good luck!!!!
