Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC
Patsypatrice replied to Kindle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I can't imagine why the friend that had her surgery in the states was so sedated & why she was there for 36 hours???? I had my VSG in Mexico with Dr. Ortiz along with three other surgery "partners" we were only in the hospital one night & not sedated except for a light narcotic under the tongue which did not make me sedated. I did not have much pain & was up walking within hours. OCC was fantastic, care was excellent, staff friendly & efficient. The Marriott Hotel was also fabulous , staff friendly & very accommodating. A Van picked us up at San Diego airport & we breezed through the border both coming & going. -
Don't give up, it will be worth it in time! Are you drinking enough water? I find I lose more when I get all my water in. Also the more protein the better. Good luck

10% weight lost?
Patsypatrice replied to italianmomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone else posted exactly what I was told. You should lose 10-15% of your starting pre-Op weight to reduce the fat around your liver & reduce the risk of the surgery. I lost 12 pounds on Pre-Op diet & had no complications at all. Good luck -

4 Weeks out - Confused - What should I be eating?
Patsypatrice replied to mimix3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All about me, your food diary sounds good to me. I am five weeks out & afraid to eat as some friends of mine have been throwing up & I will do anything to avoid throwing up. My diet is so boring, I have Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt every morning, poached egg for Lunch on 1/2 of a toasted whole wheat bagel thin. One day I added thin Deli turkey meat & laughing Cow cheese but I gained weight so I just do the egg & bagel thin. Then I have a protein shake for dinner. Last night we went out to dinner with my cousin to celebrate my birthday. I had meatloaf, mashed potatoes & broccoli which was my first time eating more than just one thing. Of course I took more than half of it home in a to go box but this morning I was up 1.8 pounds so now I am afraid to eat again. I have lost 29 pounds since 2/11 when I started the pre-op diet. -

Any February 2014 Sleevers?
Patsypatrice replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I gad my sleeve done 2/26 so I am almost to day 40 and real food. Last night we went to dinner with a cousin that I had not told about my surgery and really did not want to tell her, Had not seen her since Christmas and she did not even notice I had lost weight which all my close friends and relatives where I live have noticed. Course we are wintering in Arizona and I had put on 15 pounds from time I got here in November until I started the pre-Op diet in February, I was down 29 pounds the day before yesterday but when we went to dinner I ordered a glass of wine, took a few sips then gave it to my husband, I have only been eating one thing at a time, ie Greek yogurt for breakfast, poaced egg for lunch and protein shake for dinner. I ordered meatloaf as it was softest food on Menu, came with mashed potatoes and brocoli. I ate a little bit of each and took rest home in a to go box. My cousin first asked it I didn't like the meatloaf then when I took it all home she said that was first time she had ever seen me not finish a meal. I just said I was learing to put my fork down and cut my portions down. Well this morning I was up 1.8 pounds and that really upset me. I did not feel uncomfortable when I ate and have never thrown up and do get that stuck in my throat feeling if I eat too fast or too much. I am a Lifetime member of Weight Watchers and can have 27 points plus a day and I am not having more than 13 now. Will I ever be able to eat a normal meal without gaining???? Thanks for listening! -

I did very well with the surgery as I followed all the instructions I lost 12 pounds on the ore-op diet & now am down 25 pounds total as I put 6 pounds back on after surgery which is expected . Good luck I am sure you will be pleased & do well

Worrying about finding ok protein supplement
Patsypatrice replied to k__'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery at OCC in Tijuana & I order the Enspira Protein Shakes from their web site, I also got a double chocolate thru Amazon. Com Whey Protein is what is recommended. Good luck! -
Hi I am from Spokane but we winter in Arizona. I am 73 & do not think I could qualify in the states so I went to Obesity Control Center in Tijuana highly recommended by friends & research. I was sleeved on 2/26 & have lost 21 pounds since I started the Pre-op diet 15 days before surgery. I followed all instructions & have had no complications at all. It was a very positive experience & was only $6500 including a 4 night stay at Marriott Hotel. Dr Ariel Ortiz has been on Sr. Oz, the Doctors, Night line & Dateline. Clinic picks you up at San Diego airport & takes you to Hotel round trip. Marriott takes us to hospital. My four buddies were from Toronto Canada. Oklahoma & Iowa

Does your spouse know how much you weigh?
Patsypatrice replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No I did not tell my husband as I weigh 30 pounds more than I do, He knows of course that I am overweight but not the number but I bet he has a pretty good idea as he has guess the weight of some of my overweight friends, He was very supportive of me having the surgery, -
February 2014 Mexico Sleevers!
Patsypatrice replied to gastricsleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all, I had my VGS on February 26th with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with how nice everyone was and Tijuana was not like I expected at all. Most of my friends and relatives were really not in fvor of me doing this and especially in Mexico but it was a very good experience and the daughter that went with me changed her mind about being against it when she saw how well everything went. I am a little discouraged this morning as I have stayed at the same weight the last three days. I lost 12 pounds on the pre_op diet then went up 6 and as of this morning I am only down 5 pounds from my surgery day. My surgery went very well and I had minimal pain and no problems with gas or nausea. I started passing gas on the second day. I am on the Full liquid phase now but still doing mainly, jello, broth and the three Protein shakes a day, One interesting thing is I cannot stand the Zero Calorie Vitamin water as it is too sweet!!! I am not hungry and have no cravings for anything and it doesn't bother me to see people eating the things I used to love. -
Any February 2014 Sleevers?
Patsypatrice replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi All, I am 73 years old and I went to Tijuana Mexico to the Obesiity Control Center and Dr Ariel Ortiz who is one of top Bariatric surgeons in the country. He has been on Oprah, The Doctors, Nightline, Dateline and other TV programs. He was recommended by a friend and I did a lot of research on the Dr and the OCC. My surgery was 2/26 and I have done really well. I had the Gastric Sleeve. I did not have to jump through any hoops to do it as I paid for it on my own. I did fill out a Health Survey and had blood tests, and EKG and saw the nutritionist. The surgery fee includes a 4 night stay at the Marriott Hotel in Tijuana which was very nice. A van picked us up in San Diego and drove us to the Hotel. The hospital was very nice and staff was wonderful. One night in Hotel before the surgery, one night in hospital, then back to Hotel. The hotel provided us with chicken broth twice and day, popsicles and jello free of chare ( included in surgery fee). The were very accommodating. I ehad minimal pain, no problems with gas or nausea and am feeling great now. I lost 12 pounds on the 15 day Pre-Op diet, was up 6 after the surgery, then have now lost a total of 19 since starting the Pre-Op diet. -
I had my surgery 2/26 and lost 12 pounds before surgery, up 9 two days later and now down 19 total. I have been losing steadily almost every day, sometimes only .6. Only one day did I stay the same weight. I have been feeling weak and dizzy tho so have not been able to get in my 10,000 steps daily. I think I was not drinking enough Water. I think the more you have to lose the faster it comes off. Good luck and hang in there doing what you are doing. You are probably building muscle since you are getting in your exercise. It will come off.

March Sleevers in Tijuana!
Patsypatrice replied to Sleeveless n Seattle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi all, I had my surgery 2/26 with Dr. Ortiz & the Marriott Hotel Staff & OCC were wonderful. Four if us had the surgery same day with Dr. Ortiz & did all our appointments together & bonded with each other & all in the waiting room for our follow up appointments. We ate together back at Hotel & walked every day & are staying in touch. I had minimal pain, no nausea or gas pains as I started passing gas in second day. Normal BM within a week. Walking & getting protein & fluids in is most important. I feel great & am down 18 pounds as of this morning. I was up 6 after the surgery which is totally normal. -
