What do you ladies recommend ?
RNBSN786 replied to tammie30's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's not common to have blood clots after RNY. I never had one and know a lot of people don't get them if you follow what the doc says. When you are in the hospital you have to walk to avoid clots and to pass gas. And when you are laying down in the bed make sure you use compression socks cause they help with the blood flow. Also when you are in a lot of pain the last thing you worry about is taking a bath and all you want to do is get out of the hospital. At my hospital they gave us blankets...when I got home on my 4th I took a shower but while I was in the hospital, I couldn't have been bothered with it. I was in too much pain. -

I did take pjs but was comfortable in a gown cause I had an IV plus pain meds machine and I had a Jackson Pratt to drain right below my breast and having to wear my own pjs was impossible. I also used the disposable underwear they gave me and they also gave me mouth wash which I barely used. The first 2 days I was there I couldn't drink anything cause I had a nose tube then 3rd day they had to check if the liquid would go down and I had to drink some crappy stuff which finally made me pass gas and crap. And then I was able to drink soup and water which was difficult to get it down and then 4th day in the afternoon I was discharged. I couldn't have showered with the drainage and stitches on me. So I don't know how people showered in that condition. -
QUESTION: If U had gastric bypass & U had 2 do all over again verses the SLEEVE would U?
RNBSN786 replied to cindyvirden.com's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was going to do the sleeve and changed my mind to do RNY. I do not regret it and I am glad I made this decision cause it makes me accountable for what I eat. I read a lot about the sleeve and I felt it's a very new procedure compared to RNY which has a ton of research and results. So I wanted to make sure I have it right the first time and went for the RNY. Plus my surgeon said RNY gets rid of GERD which I have struggled with most of my life with...I would not change a thing with my decision. -
What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?
RNBSN786 replied to Menelly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I do miss diet soda and I do have like a few sips here and there when I am out with my family but I don't have much cause it hurts. I dont deprived myself from anything but I do control my intake. One thing for sure my appetite and cravings have diminished so for now I just stick to what I can tolerate like eggs, cheese, soy milk, ground meats, fish, peanut butter, protein shakes, yogurt and drink lots and lots of water. I do have ice cream like weight watchers stuff once in a while or had a small scoop of coffee ice cream from my moms bowl. For me this surgery is a tool to lose weight, get rid of old habits, establish new good habits...that's the idea. -

You guys are funny. When I was in the hospital the last thing I cared for was to take a shower or brush my teeth or even read my kindle. I was in pain and all I wanted was to rest or get out of the hospital. But when I did get home I took a nice shower. I was in the hospital for 4 days and the crappy part is that I had my period. So the point is that you can make all the plans you want but it won't happen that way. I did have my phone to talk to my family and I barely watched tv. Good luck! -
what foods YOU cannot eat anymore?
RNBSN786 replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can't seem to eat any meat unless it's ground meat with some sauce. Salads are also hard on me but I am going to try again later on. I miss eating salads. I can eat fish which I loved before my surgery and love it now too. I can't eat bread or rice...I can handle thin sliced pizza which takes a long time to finish and have to chew it like crazy. As sweets go, I can have a few pieces of m&ms and be ok or have a small scoop of ice cream and be ok. Anything beyond that hurts and makes me ill. Now days I just eat cheese, Greek yogurt, nuts, protein shakes, cottage cheese, seafood and peanut butter. That's pretty much it. -
I have heard fitbit is coming out with the new force. So I am going to wait it out and then purchase it. I do love the idea of having to wear a bracelet vs a clip on. Would love the bracelet to tell me the time also this way I don't have to worry about wearing a watch in addition to a step tracker.

How soon did you start working out...
RNBSN786 replied to ladykatie_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am now 9 weeks out and I still have not joined the gym yet. But I walk a lot cause that's just how we get around in NYC. I don't own a car and my legs and public transportation is all what I have...my surgery was on a mon and I was home by thurs. Started to walk the following Monday and stepping outside of my home. I was told by my surgeon to not lift anything for the first 6-8 weeks cause your staples need to heal. No crazy exercising but just walking would do. I couldn't have worked out so soon cause at least for 4-5 weeks I was still very sore. As far as protein goes I am still struggling but I love my protein shakes from GNC the lean 25 and I eat cheese, cottage cheese, tuna, chicken, soy milk, peanut butter, other types of fish, ground turkey is what I have been eating. I would recommend that. -
I think it all depends on what your current weight is..10 days before surgery I lost 10 pounds and I had my surgery on march 31. Today is may 30 and I have lost 27 pounds in 2 months which is about 3 weeks a pound. I don't want it to be rapid weight loss but more steady. The idea is to keep going and meeting your goals and eating proteins. The day of my surgery I was 200 and now I am 173.

What about peanuts?
RNBSN786 replied to iamblessed1225's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was told that I can have Peanut Butter in my pureed diet and i can have handful of nuts later on. I am 2+ months out and I have one tablespoon of PB almost every day and i would have about 5-8 almonds a day. -
I am almost 2 months post op and I have had Special K hight protein cereal a few times with soy milk. I eat like less than 1 serving which would be half a cup or less. And it's filling and taste decent. I don't miss the sugar ones at all. Try it out.

So this past weekend we had family over and we ordered pizza. We ordered thin crust veggie from papa johns and I ate one slice and was full. One slice does it for me and it went down much better than regular crust. So def give it a shot.

Omg what you describe sounds so good and I would love to have some...I think it's ok to have some in limitations. You have worked very hard and it's ok to treat yourself once in a while

Thnks for the info. Have not tried it as yet but will give it a shot at later time.

Don't be afraid to ask questions...let's all put this behind and move forward. I am pretty sure Madam R was just pointing out things but didn't mean any harm to anyone. Let's all just have a group hug and move forward. And continue on with our journey...

I had a gastric bypass. How many months after your surgery you had sushi? I love sushi and sashimi but moving forward I am going to just have sashimi.

How much time off work-office/desk job
RNBSN786 replied to jodie1961's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said 2 weeks but if I can get 4 weeks it's perfect. I resigned from my job 10 days before my surgery (march 31) and used my insurance to pay for my surgery thankfully I had cobra and I am going to start my new job on may 19. So I will be 7 weeks out on the first day of my new job. I started my part time job on Saturdays on April 26. And I started to hunt for my full time job in the week of April 21. So I took about 3 weeks but glad I had 7 weeks to rest. Realistically I think 4-6 weeks is best to rest it out. My surgeon even recommended that. I still feel some pain internally. Lots of rest is needs for the gastric bypass. -
How much weight did you gain during your post-op pregnancy?
RNBSN786 replied to MoveIt2LoseIt's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I thought surgeons say you have to wait 18 months after your surgery to get pregnant. Is that true? -
Ms. RJ - thanks for your posting on the rants. You are right with what you have said...people should be able to rant and I also agree with you that some people are nice on this site and so is MR. Which I am sure is true and at times people just need to let it out and express how they feel. Trust me it also annoys me to see some redundancy but I just ignore and move on. Or I will answer and move on. But I wouldn't rant about it but then again everyone is different. I also feel if we make people feel bad about their postings then people will be scared to even ask. So why do that! Best to let this be a resourceful site and let people ask what they want and get information. I really appreciate you clarifying things. And I will keep my mind open about things also.
-
And I will rant about the nasty people right here on this thread then and if you can't be a support then do not be on this site. And if you are going to say it's a free world and free place rant then be ready to take it also. Good luck!

I am also able to eat pizza with crust but it takes me an hour to finish a slice and a slice fills me up. But I think later on in my journey I am going to make them at home on flat bread...I don't crave pizza like I did early on and ended up ordering papa johns and ate one slice one day and then second slice the next day and my mom ate the rest through out the week.
