Calling All January 13, 2010 Bandsters!
claricey replied to Just-Ice's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear you're having these problems. I did too. Nausea and just feeling horrible. You aren't alone in this. It will get better and soon. Let us know how you're doing. We're thinking about you! Claricey -
Kelly! Good luck on Monday. We are one week apart, I had mind done on 1/11. I know you will be home and feeling like new in no time. Just tell every person you meet that you have that allergy and repeat it till they are sick of hearing it. I'm sure with constant reminding, there shouldnt be a problem. I myself am allergic to all antibiotics and made sure everyone knew it. However, my surgeon wouldn't operate on me without using one just during surgery. We decided to try one that I hadn't taken before and sure enough about 8 hours after surgery I started showing signs of the allergy. Red puffy hot face and arms. I was on benadryl for a few days following surgery and am feeling much better now. Oftentimes I'm sure the benadryl makes me feel worse than the allergic reaction. Again BEST OF LUCK on Monday and check in and let us know how you are doing when you can. Claricey :w00t:

Any January 11th bandsters out there????
claricey posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw the thread for the 1/15'ers but thought I would ask about my date on 1/11. My surgeon does not require a pre-op diet...just asks that I don't gain any weight from my last appt with him which was Thanksgiving week. Guess what?...I GAINED...about 8 pounds...so I have to be VERY good the rest of the week to prepare myself. Hope to hear from any and all that getting banded soon! Take care, Claricey:thumbup: -

Awesome to hear you are up and doing so well so soon Dan!! Today is my first "good" day and I still feel very weak in the legs and lightheaded/loopy. Hoping that feeling goes away soon because I have two little ones that are looking forward to a weekend of outside play with Mommy and Daddy. I'll have to take it easy and see how that goes. I've taken several daily walks to the mailbox (150 ft or so) and I think that has helped me. I plan to do more as I can. Check back soon and glad to hear all went well! Claricey -

Thanks Celia. I am going to try the heating pad for sure. Although I have to say that I feel much better today. I was able to get rid of alot of gas and am getting plenty of rest. I'm not pushing getting back into the swing too quick. Take care, Claricey

I was banded yesterday morning. I came home this morning and unfortunately had a dealyed reaction to the antibiotics so I have to take benadryl for a few days. I had severe pain in my neck and shoulder which hasn't left me yet. I'm using the Gas X strips and they help a little but it really hurts. I have percocet but am using extra stength tylenol liquid and i'm grinning and bearing it. I have a lot of gurlgling in my stomach and when i drink my Water I get a sharp pain, Not sure if its gas or not cuz I feel like I have to burp immediately and it hurts too. I'm a little weak and tired on Clear liquids through tomorrow then full liquids for a few days. Benadryl is kicking in so I'll be signing off soon. Congrats to all those that got their surgery and for those about to. I wouldn't change a thing even with the uncomfortable feeling. Claricey

Calling All January 13, 2010 Bandsters!
claricey replied to Just-Ice's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone. I get banded tomorrow morning, first thing! I am right now very nervous but not to the point that I would change my decision. My biggest fear is that I have forgotten something or that I haven't prepared enough. Although honestly...if I did forget anything I have my angels (hubby and sis) to get it for me so I need to just chill out. Full liquid diet today was really rough. My nephew had his 6th b'day party. Tons of food (all that I love) and the biggest chocolate cake I've ever seen. I was sitting there eating a Greek yogurt and a Fuze drink. And to my surprise I did just fine...so after that kind of a day...I KNOW I can do this. And so can ALL of us. Best of luck to EVERYONE and Take care. Can't wait to post when I'm home on Tuesday. -
Good luck KIKOman. We are having surgery on the same day. I think you may be a time zone or two ahead of me here on the East coast so please post when you can and I will do the same.

Jen!!! I just read this and I wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! This is really YOUR year...40 and FABULOUS! YOU GO GIRL!!

My doc required the barium swallow to rule out a hiatal hernia. To my knowledge that is the only reason he does that test. As for a laxative, my surgeon does not require that. It can never hurt to call your docs office though. And it will give you some peace of mind. Good luck and please post and let us know what they say. Claricey

Any January 11th bandsters out there????
claricey replied to claricey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Pasoc! I understand completly how you feel. However don't worry, if your doc doesn't require a pre op diet....there is no harm in not following one. If there were...your surgeon would have required it. The surgery itself is not considered major and really has a very low list of possible complications. I personally know about 25 people that have had the band and have had no complications and absolutely no regrets. I can tell you why I am going for the band. I have been able to lose significant amounts of weight (many times over the years) but never able to keep it off permanently. I always gain it back. My problem is I binge when I'm sad, happy, depressed, stressed. I think you see my point. The band will be my tool to be able to handle those times with limiting what I can fit into my stomach. It will always be the reminder that I have had enough..and I am full. Of course I'm always working on better ways to attack the binge behavior. One other positive is how quickly you will be able to lose weight. With every pound you lose you will become healthier and that is a very attractive feature. There are more reasons than this but these are the ones I thought you might consider thinking about to feel better about your decision. BEST OF LUCK and keep us posted! Claricey -

Hey Dan! I am getting the Allergan Lap-band system. My doc didn't require the pre-op diet but I gained about 8 pounds over the holidays. I've been watching what I ate and exercised a little and have lost it, thank goodness! My weight right now is 307 and I have to say that you have done a fantastic job on your own!!!! This band will be a great success for you and will help you keep it off and avoid that yo-yo thing. I also will try to post when I am home on Tuesday. Take care and BEST OF LUCK ON MONDAY!! Claricey P.S. Don't forget to join the thread for January 2010 bandsters. We are posting on their post op. -
Toddee thanks SO much for your post! Are you having any problems with getting your Water in? I keep hearing how you can't really "gulp". It's sip, sip, sip. Also what kind of Protein are you using? Thanks and CONGRATULATIONS on your surgery! I look forward to chatting with you and all these fine Jan Bandsters in the coming weeks and months. Claricey

Thanks Jennifer...I got the call late yesterday. I report at 6:30am eastern on Monday the 11th. I am SOOO PSYCHED! I will be spending one night in the hospital so I am packing my bag today. I plan to make sure I include a comfortable jogging suit to go home in, chapstick/blistex, a good book, my iPod (HAVE to have music) and my own liquid whey Protein bullet. I've been told by folks in my local support group that the protein they try to get you to drink in the hospital is AWFUL and to bring my own. Do you think I forgot anything???? Claricey

I'm sitting here anxiously staring at my phone waiting for it to ring!! The hospital is supposed to call me today to tell me what time to report on Monday morning. I am off the charts excited but also getting a little nervous about the whole "surgery" thing. Ya know...anesthesia, recovery etc... I haven't really thought too much about that part till now. :tt1:

TOTALLY AWESOME JOB!!! YOU GO!! Keep us updated on your progress and if you can...post your meal plan...I'm getting banded next week and would love another sample to follow. Take care! Claricey :smile2:

Hi There!! I am scheduled for surgery this coming Monday 1/11 and I wanted to tell you that you are an inspiration to me. We are close to the same starting weight and I also play flute. (Haven't played in a group though for many years except in my room) LOOOVE all music and hope I can do as well as you have done with the band. Take care and look forward to chatting with you in the future.

Hi Everyone! I am SO glad to have found this thread. I get banded this coming Monday, January 11th. My surgeon did not require a liquid diet. I was just told to maintain my weight from my last appointment which was Thanksgiving week. Little problem called holiday eating has gotten in the way of me keeping that promise however. But I am eating healthy this week and trying to go into it in as good a shape as possible. I look forward to checking back in here with you all. Take care and best of luck everybody!! Claricey

Don't know what it feels like to be "normal" sized & scared!
claricey replied to DizzyLizzy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh this is SO my story! I just had to meet with my therapist on Monday about this. With my surgery looming so close (I get banded this coming Monday the 11th) a thought ran through my mind....what if it REALLY works..ALL THE WAY THIS TIME. I like everyone else has lost some weight over a dozen times. But to take it all the way and get to a healthy "normal" weight...NO WAY. I don't know why this is scarey but it is. Since I was 16 I've been over 200 pounds. I don't have an obvious reason why I've kept the weight sheild on like some have said so I don't know why...but I am terrified. On the other hand being a newer mom to 2 adopted children I am also terrified that it won't work. So I am quite the mess over here. But I thank you for posting this and for all the thoughtful compassionate replies that you have received. I am going into this with my eyes wide open and will deal with those feelings if and when they come. No sense in worrying about it now! Good luck to ALL and God Bless! -

Wow! 9 pounds already, that is awesome!!! What kinds of things are you putting in your house for when you get home the first few days? I keep thinking I'm forgetting something but I have sugar free ice pops, broth, egg whites, skim milk, yogurt....what else can we eat on the liquids/full liquids. -
