  1. The date is set...Aug 12th! Its been 7 months since my first appt...and here I am, scared, nervous and so excited. I'll be having hernia repair, bypass and gallbladder taken out in one shot. Anyone who had anything similar to those procedures, I'm super interested to hear of your recovery and how long before returning to work (though I realize everyone is different). I would love to buddy up with someone!
  2. So I'm almost a year out. I'm still losing but fairly slowly. I feel like I can be eating better as I tend to hit some carbs & sweets probably more than I should. It happens! But I want to get my diet back in check. I was considering doing the ol clear liquid diet for a few days in attempt to reset my mind and body & diet. Has anyone done this or anything similar to get back on track? I'm not trying to be one of those people bypass didn't ultimately work for and gain it all back. I'm terrified of this.

    Diet reset

Wow! That's great! I think patience is your key being only a few months out. I remember the feeling though. The loss will kick in again. I swear your weight will settle in for a good period of time occasionally. I hated it. More will come off, trust!

    Diet reset

What's the pouch test. I remember reading about it in my early days but didn't pay much attention at the time...

    "You will fail"....question

You can do it...I'm sure we all went through some food mourning prior to surgery. Stay positive and educated and you'll do great. This app is great for feeling out what's normal with mind that everyone's different. Keep the nay sayers at a distance.
  6. 7 months out after bypass and down 75 pounds.
  7. I found out I had Barrets esophagus during pretests for the sleeve and my doctor wouldn't do the sleeve after that. I had done so much research and was so ready for the sleeve, it felt like a disappointment to get RNY. 7 months post I am so thankful I got bypass. It was the best for me. I too can eat what I want but stick to healthy choices.
  8. Thanks for this post! I'm 7 months out and stalled for over a month! Its jumped around a bit but I can't help but wonder...am I done losing already?
  9. Put the scale away and focus on nutrition and moving. The weight will come off, I promise.
  10. Continue to research and know that RNY is whats best. I was faced with the same concerns & issues and I'm thankful I came around. I have no regrets after bypass. - 6 mo out, down 75 pounds.
  11. I was in your shoes and was upset because my doctor pretty much flat out refused to do the sleeve because of it. I continued to research and found the bypass addressed the barretts as well with the elimination of reflux and then some. It completely changed my decision. I also found many who had the sleeve got the revision to bypass due to the gerd. I don't know about you but I'd rather get the cadillac and do it once then to continue and bring my ass into the shop over and over. Im not knockin the sleeve though...I was all for it for a reason and it works with many...just not me.

    Gallbladder problem or not?

My gallbladder was packed with stones & apparently very sick prior to surgery. I got it taken out at the same time and I gotta say, even through the pain of recovery, I felt a huge difference & Im thankful i got two birds with one stone.
  13. Ok I understand carbonated beverages...but Im hearing noodles and popcorn too. Can anyone give my their off limit foods?

How long did your hair fall out?

I just noticed above comment...I had to start taking iron about a month ago after my 6 mo labs came back as very low, border anemic. That may be contributing to the regrowth as well.

How long did your hair fall out?

I'm 6 months out, I lost some of my hairline? I thought i was imagining it until i just noticed some growth there. So I'm hoping no more loss. I've been taking biotin religiously since month 2.

    Stalling

What was your longest stall and what did you do to break it? I'm going on almost 4 weeks now with no loss. I'm 5 mo out and down 70 pounds. Havent changed eating since beginning maintain phase. Maybe its not enough or too much. I'm interested in hearing your responses!

How long before you returned to work?

I agree with staceylc...i took 3 weeks...i couldve done 2 if needed. Energy is lacking afterward so i took my time after bypass.

    Scared of missing comfort foods!

I used to think I wouldn't need to focus on food as much and I've found I focus more just trying to get the protein & other nutrients in my body. By the time thats accomplished for the day, I have little room. I have experimented to moniter my tolerances for different foods and have kept "questionable" comfort foods to a minimum. A bite can satisfy for the longest time and I don't feel so deprived. My NUT preaches the 90/10 rule of eating well 90% of the time and the 10% in moderation foods become insignificant.
