I was sleeved on July 29th and am still having a hard time believing that it's finally been done. I've had a wonderful experience and feel very fortunate. My surgeon was/is great, the hospital I had the procedure at is top notch and the nurses and LNAs that took care of me were great. If there is one thing I can recommend is to start walking as soon as you can. I started walking 8 hours after I got to my room and it helped tremendously. I didn't end up needing any pain killers but wished I would have been drugged up when my surgeon removed my drain as that was the worst pain I have ever felt. To date I have lost 9 pounds since surgery. It's really great seeing the scale go down and I am walking about 1-1.5 hours a day. I'm having a really tough time drinking the Protein Shakes. The after taste is killing me, any suggestion on other ways to get Protein? I'm currently on phase 2.

Thank you! I will look into the tasteless protein powder. Good luck with your surgery and hopefully you'll have a speedy recovery. -

August Sleevers Check In

Mine is August 26th too. I was hoping for July but am glad that I have a date now just waiting for approval. My paperwork was submitted on Friday. -
My date is August 26th at 3:30 pm. After reading how long some people have been working at this I feel very fortunate. I started doing all the pre-op on April 4th, finished on May 22, had to get final sign off by the director of surgery which was 3 weeks later and met with surgeon and got my surgery date on Monday. Before I could meet with the surgeon I had to do a 6 week lifestyle change course, 2 support groups, 2 part psych eval, exercise class, sleep study, EKG, and upper GI as well as blood work. I met my goal weight that I needed to be at. Before the surgery I have to meet with the surgeon again, the person who administers the sleeping gas, and the dietitian. They also have all my post-op appointments scheduled. I'm nervous and excited all at the same time.

Thank you and I completely agree. It seems like it's taken forever.

My first visit was a seminar in March, which you have to go to before even getting your first appointment with the surgeon, then I had my official visit with the surgeon three weeks later. I am now at the end of all the pre-op requirements; EKG, upper GI, 6 week lifestyle change course, two support groups, blood work, psych exam, and sleep study. I meet with the Director of surgery on June 25th for final sign off and then about a week later I meet with the surgeon, get my surgery date, submit to insurance and wait for approval. I am thankful for all the pre-op requirements because it has made me 100% ready. I am hoping for a July surgery date.

You look amazing and congratulations. -
Hey Everyone, So I will be done with all my pre-op requirements on the 4th and hopefully my sleep study will come back negative so I can go see the surgeon. Anyways, since I am so close I have been trying out Protein powders and have found one that tastes great, even if just tasting the powder, easily mixes with a spoon, comes in many different flavors and has 23 grams of protein, 0 carbs, 0 sugars, 0 cholesterol, 0 fats, 15 mg sodium and 40 mg potassium. I mix mine with Almond Milk :-) The Protein Powder is Syntrax nectar. I was able to make my own sample pack, 11 flavors either same or different, for $14.95 on www.bjsbariatric.com They also have a container that keeps your shakes cold that has a storage part for more powder.

I'll check them our too, thank you

Hi Everyone! My name is Lisa and I am just starting out. I have already gone to the informational session and will be having my first meeting with the surgeon on the 3rd. I hope I am posting this in the right place. A little bit about me. I am 34, married, have a great job and have no children. My life is pretty nice except for being ashamed of how overweight I am and having PCOS. I am just starting my journey and have a very supportive husband. He loves me the way I am but knows I need to do this in order to be around for a long time. I have so many questions but will start out with just a few. 1. How long did it take for you to get an operation date? 2. What did you have to do before getting a date for you operation? Such as testing. 3. Do you have any regrets? Thank you in advance.

Hello- I have a few questions.
Pnut&Bull replied to Pnut&Bull's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Will I still be able to take the pills after the surgery? I thought the surgery would reverse the insulin resistance caused by the PCOS. -
Good luck and congrats!

Good luck on your journey. I hope I get approved in 3-4 weeks. As you know I am just starting out too.

Hello- I have a few questions.
Pnut&Bull replied to Pnut&Bull's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great to hear how well everyone is doing and I am excited but also nervous at the same time. I really hate sitting around so being able to get up and move right after is great. That's strange that you would stop losing when you start working out again. I'd love to run in a race or two. The surgeon I am seeing keeps you in the hospital for 2 days. I'd love to be able to get the operation in April. Best of luck to you Kitten22996 and thank you everyone else for replying. -
Hello- I have a few questions.
Pnut&Bull replied to Pnut&Bull's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey thanks everyone for your responses. The surgeon I am seeing requires a psych evaluation, a meeting with a dietitian, lose 8% of your body weight, a class for fitness and a class for lifestyle change. My concern is the blood work- I don't do so well with getting blood drawn. My insurance requires the same exact thing as the surgeon. How soon after can you start working out? I currently do cardio, step and strength training 6 days a week for 30-60 minutes. I love working out. Will I be able to walk my pups after the operation?
