  1. I'm so frustrated and discouraged! I went for my medical clearance exam yesterday and my doctor told me that I have to have a Psych eval before she will clear me. I'm self-pay and my surgeon and the clinic medical director said I didn't have to have one -- that it is something that the insurance companies usually require. Now, I can't find but one doctor to do it and it means a wait of several weeks before I can even get in to see him. Any advice? Has this happened to any of you? I've thought about this decision for over 3 years and been in the process since late November --- I'm just ready to do this --- I don't want to wait!:think
  2. Hi everybody, I'm new here...just joined yesterday. I'm getting very close to getting a surgery date, but still am a little aprehensive. Can anyone answer some of my questions? After you heal from surgery, are you aware of the band? Or do you just feel it when you are trying to eat? How do you manage the first 2 weeks with getting in all the liquids, but only having an ounce or two at a time? How do you cope when you have a really strong food craving but can't eat? Do the cravings ever subside? I've been on a pretty strict diet for the last 2 weeks and the other day I just HAD TO HAVE some Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I finally gave in to my craving and ate 4! I know I can't do that after I'm banded. But, its like I want it so bad I'll go completely crazy if I can't get it. There are not too many things that affect me like that and not real often, but when it happens, it is almost uncontrollable. Any advice? I am using the Weight Loss Clinic in Harrisburg, PA. Dr. Scott Currie will be my surgeon. I met one other person who has used him, but if anyone else has comments about him, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks so much to everyone who posts! I've learned so much from reading all these for the last few months. Angela Highest weight:312 Current weight:301 Goal: 160? (this seems impossible to me right now)

We also got the checks from Chase. We could either have 0% for 6 months or 3.99% for the life of the loan. Since we are self paying for both me and my husband, this seems like the most affordable way to go. My doctor also said something about CareCredit as a financing option.
  4. I am coming to the end of the process before I can get a surgery date. I have an EGD scheduled for Friday and my Medical Clearance exam next Tuesday. Since I am a self-pay, I should get a surgery date pretty soon after all that. But, I still have a lot of concerns. After reading a lot of the posts here, I'm afraid the band won't work. I've been on a self-imposed 1100 calorie a day diet since New Years and haven't lost very much. What if the band doesn't work? Do you still have food cravings? Some people seem to have a lot of pain and others not so much. Also, since I'm paying for this myself, what if there are complications? I know the insurance doesn't cover it if there are and I don't want to be financially devestated because of this. Also, what do you tell people? I don't really want everyone to know I'm doing this, but how do you not tell people? Any advice on this. Maybe I'm just being overly anxious about this. It sounds like the band works for most people and I just pray it will work for me, too. I've tried so hard for the last 20 years to lose weight and just have not been successful --this is like my last hope. Thanks for any advice you can give!
