Has anyone told you that this surgery is too drastic?
Life in Progress replied to mommyjamie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I heard that a few times before surgery but those same people have also now come to me and complimented me on how well I have done. I didn't let it bother me too much because it is not something you decide to do overnight and I knew what I was getting myself into. Especially since I knew I was bettering my health and life. -
Encourage her to be a "squeaky wheel." Throwing up is not normal, especially if it is happening a lot. They need to be figuring out why it is happening whether it be diet or a physical problem. She needs to be persistant.

How much fiber do you get daily?
Life in Progress replied to NMJG's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been taking fiber powder in my Water but have been still having problems. I started eating broccoli and some spinach here and there to add some insoluble fiber to my diet and that really seemed to get things moving a little better. Makes me laugh that I have to worry about those types of things at my age. -
I have been very dry. Inside and out. I think my biggest problem is getting in enough fluids. I have been trying to add a Powerade zero to my fluids and it has seemed to help me stay hydrated a little better. Hopefully coming out of winter will help the dryness out a little too.

Informing my family and friends
Life in Progress replied to JulieA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Telling is the hardest part of the process. I was trying to come up with a great answer for you but after thinking of all of the emotions and feelings that are involved I can't find the right words of when, where and how to tell. With anyone I have told, there was just a feeling when the right moment came and it would just come out. I kept pretty private beforehand and the people I did tell happened the week before my surgery. After surgery I was more of an open book because what was done was done and there was nothing to be talked out of. Thinking on the other side of things as a daughter, I know I have been mad at my mom for having surgery and procedures and not telling me. I think that is a worse feeling than knowing and worrying about her having a procedure beforehand if that makes sense. That is one good reason to tell your kids. -

I have been averaging anywhere from 700-800 calories per day. I mostly concentrate on what I am putting in my mouth and how much. Trying not too worry about calories too much yet but I do wonder what is optimal. My small victory is that I haven't had any "stuck" episodes for a week or so which makes eating a little more enjoyable and not a game of Russian roulette of the tummy. But don't get me wrong, I don't plan on getting too adventurous quite yet. It has been a long couple of months, but well worth the results. My other small victory came in the mail today. My secondary insurance wasn't going to pick up the remainder of my hospital bill and I got a summary today showing that they just wrote a check and that I didn't owe anything. Maybe they decided losing weight was a good investment. Hoping everyone is enjoying little victories this week and feeling better. We all deserve it. -

How often do you weigh yourself?
Life in Progress replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am down to about every two or three days and working towards once a week as my goal. I also like to measure every couple of weeks. I enjoy seeing the progress from all of the hard work. -
What Happened
Life in Progress replied to Mrs.Harkness's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am in week 5 and have hit a little stall myself. Stalls happen, the body is going through a lot of healing and changing. Just make sure you are hitting your daily Protein goal and stay with the plan. It will all be good in the end. -
Got my date! But scared to fail.
Life in Progress replied to chefkelly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It is scary to do such a life changing thing. I think you will find that once you start seeing results that it is enough to keep you on track. I am five weeks post surgery and starting to feel a lot more confident about the future. You will lose weight! Have faith in yourself, do what your doctor tells you, and lean on those close to you for moral support. It is normal to be scared of the unknown, but don't let it keep you from doing what is best for yourself. You can do it! -

Help Gas pains
Life in Progress replied to Mrs.Harkness's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It took a while for me to get rid of my gas pains too. It kept getting under my diaphragm. They are right getting up and moving around and gas x strips usually helps to reduce the discomfort. Hope you get to feeling better soon. (I promise you will) -

Hope everyone is doing well on this nice Sunday. Yesterday I got to experience the dreaded "dumping." We were at an all day basketball tournament for my son so I packed some yogurt and cooked potato and my protein powder for a shake. I was out of skim milk for the shake so my husband stopped at the gas station and could only find 2%. I have been tolerating everything just fine so I decided to try that while were on a break. Bad mistake. Very shortly after I finished drinking started getting dizzy and nauseated. I was too dizzy to get up for a few minutes but made a straight line to the bathroom when I got myself together. I went in a stall and just sat holding on to the handicapped rails. I needed to throw up but couldn't(especially since it was a very busy place) I thought I was going to have to lay on the floor. I sat for about 15 minutes and finally dry heaved. Once I did that, the dizziness finally eased up and I was able to make my way out of the bathroom. Fifteen minutes later I was back again. My belly was cramping. Finally after all that I was back to my self. Hopefully won't have to go through that again it was a terrible feeling. -
