I had lap band surgery 2/2010, sw 263. I had success, reached about 170 by 12/2012. Then things went haywire. I caught a serious stomach flu in 1/2013, and had all my fluid drained a few days in bc I couldn't drink. I think the damage was already done, though. Anyway, the flu came and went, and I didn't get better as far as eating. Two spoonfuls of yogurt put me in agony. I would vomit in digested food nearly 24 hours after eating. I lived in denial for about a month ( crazy when I look back now) and called it inflammation, said it would pass. When I finally went to my surgeon, they took me from the office to radiology for a swallow study, then straight through the emergency room to surgery, all within about 2 hours. I was 160 when I left the hospital, and very sick. For the next 6 months or so, I was determined to keep the weight off by myself. I worked out almost every day, ate right, and watched my weight creep back up steadily. I gave up on working out. Finally I went to an endocrinologist, who told me I had metabolic syndrome, Hashimoto's thyroiditis and all around crappy genes. I decided that day to get the sleeve to save myself.
