I am trying not to freak out. I am about 8 weeks post op, everything has been going well. I eat about 700-800 calories a day, get 80-100 grams of protein a day. Yesterday the only thing I did different was eat a little popcorn which I know put me up in carbs more than any days so far. But really? 2 lbs?! I am berating myself over the two handfuls of popcorn. I feel awful now

So, I've had this right hip pain that's been getting progressively worse. I had been dismissing it as pelvic pain (I have a long and complex history of pcos and endometriosis) It kept getting worse, so I went to the gyno, who told me my lady parts are fine, but the hip needs to be looked at. Orthopedic appointment X-rays and MRI later, and I'm benched and on steroids. He told me my running is the worst thing I could do to my body, followed by my p90x being the second worst. I love running, love it love it need to have it. And I only have 3-1/2 weeks left before I can say I completed p90x. These are huge things that people outside of this community can't possibly understand the significance of. I am devastated!! And terrified of gaining weight now with limited activity and steroids. What now?!?!??!

Thanks for being supportive! My bariatric doc is very firm on the no NSAID rule, and the ortho wants to bring down the inflammation in the hip. Right now we are pretty sure it is bursitis in the front and back of the hip, also tendonisis in the back where the tendon attaches to the pelvis, possible damage to the IT band...Im sure I'm leaving some out, too!! I used to do the elliptical but always dreamed if being fit enough to run at the park and quickly got hooked on it. Now the elliptical feels sad:( I'm trying to stay upbeat. I feel like this is the only place I can vent my frustrations where anyone will really get me, though. Thanks for listening!

Beachbody programs- beginner and want to get strong. Recommendations?
Jenny L replied to mi75's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I started with the power 90 home boot camp. This is a great program for beginners, explains everything well as far as what the moves do and how to do things right. There are two phases I. The 00 day program as well. I did the whole thing once and then did the second phase for another 90, increasing how well I kept up and the weights I lifted. I'd start with this. I'm now on week 9 if p90x3, and I never would've been able to do any without a good base from the power 90. Hope this helps! -
When I was banded, the biggest thing for me was moisture in my food. It was great to always have a sauce or gravy ( think evaporated skim milk or fat free gravy as a base), and soft is easiest. Best of luck!

You know what I mean. You run into someone you haven't seen for some time, and they remark on your weight loss, but in a weird way and you're not sure how to take it. I ran into another mom I know from my sons school (as in not a close friend or anything remotely like that) and she noticed the weight loss, asked what I was doing etc. And then she says "oh your husband must love it!" What?? What do I say to that? That was weird. Like "nah, he likes his ladies large" or "yeah he was packing his bags before I lost the weight". Awkward!!

I need some guidance. I am pretty much at goal as far as my weight, but I like working toward something, and I'd like to work toward shredding some muscle. The dietician at my surgeons office is a lovely person but can sound like a broken record as far as portion, protein first, etc. I know that stuff now. My questions are specifically about when to eat to maximize my workouts, and what to eat when, etc. Has anyone found someone who can advise on this stuff while keeping our special needs in mind?

I had my surgery in 2/24. I'm not trying to rush things and I am trying to be realistic, but I can't help wondering: what size will I be come summer? I live at the shore, and we all really come to life in June. All of the fashion is changing but I won't buy anything yet. My sw was 203. Can anyone tell me their experience and loss in the first couple months?

So, I just completed mudderella and feel amazing. Been doing the p90x thing, feeling strong and healthy and positive. My first time with a healthy bmi and single digit sizes since I was in the sixth grade (I'm 37!) So naturally, here comes the complete a**hole comment from a guy friend when he saw my picture "Jesus Christ! What are you on steroids or something?!" And as a lifetime self conscious fatty, I am immediately deflated and now questioning my appearance and feel like crap. Great.

How do you handle eating with others?
Jenny L replied to Menina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know the stress you're feeling, and worrying that there will be a spotlight on you and your plate. Truthfully, people are not going to notice too much as long as you don't draw attention to it. I have been able to play it off with very little notice. If everyone is sharing an appetizer, you take a small amount, take one bite during conversation, and keep your fork in hand to move the food around while you talk. Yes, I'm serious! And pick an entree that's going to give you what you need in terms of protein, etc and do pretty much the same thing. Cut it up, move it around, say you're full if anyone asks. But for the most part nobody is analyzing what you take in that hard. It's been working for me. Hope it helps -
Has anyone done this yet? If so, what do you think of it? I just bought it and I don't know if I should follow the classic or lean schedule and was hoping to hear from anyone with experience. I'm excited and terrified!!
-
So, I decided to go with the classic p90x3 schedule and did day 1 today! I won't say I could do everything or that I didn't look like a hot mess doing it, but I hung in there and did reasonably well I think. 89 to go!

I really like the Victoria secrets vsx. It's pricey, but they measure you so you get the right size, and it fits great, looks great, supports great. It's an investment but 'the girls' will thank you

What is the real point of this surgery?
Jenny L replied to powaqqatsi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At the end of the day, you are still the SAME PERSON. I am the same person that got morbidly obese, and so is everybody else here. We've all had inappropriate/unhealthy relationships with food. If we only ate when truly hungry, nobody would need theses extreme interventions! And after surgery and recovery, that same person is still inside you. You still have to face your overeating triggers like stress, depression, etc. and cravings, too. Just because my tummy got tiny, chocolate did not become less delicious. Just because I got the sleeve, exercise didn't become something I don't rolls eyes about. It's a tool, and you still have to put in work. Otherwise youre not ready for this so don't waste your time. I'm sorry if I sound bitchy, but this is the cold truth. -
Lap ban survivor here, considering sleeve have many questions
Jenny L replied to Bruce Peter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I'm a survivor as well! I can relate to all of the complications you talked about. My band slipped very badly and I had emergency surgery to have it out 2/13. Thought I'd finish my weight loss on my own. A year and 30 lbs later, I got my sleeve. It's a completely different world!! I love it. Things don't get stuck, which is the biggest and best difference. Also, when you get full from a meal, it doesn't present as god awful chest pain or back pain, you're just full. Belly-full. So much nicer! And I can tolerate all proteins (they're just really filling!) the one thing that gives me grief is corn. And really, that's ok I don't touch pasta or rice so I can't report on those. And you need to take your acid reducer meds every day. I had an issue early on and switched from Prilosec to dexilant and I've been fine since. If you're ready, I say go for it with the sleeve. I'm so glad I did! Good luck! -
If someone had given me a little glimpse into what would be in style when I got down to a decent size, I swear I would've just eaten myself into oblivion instead of doing all of this work! Seriously, with the one piece jumpsuits, and the half tops and all of the other ridiculous shit I just saw while attempting to find clothes that fit me. It's all garbage. I was so excited to go shopping, I have awesome plans, a babysitter--and yoga pants. Lovely.

5'4 and 265 starting weight...anyone else?
Jenny L replied to lizzyloo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry, couldn't figure out how to do pics with text, so pics are above. I started at 264, 5'4. Currently 153. These are the first pics of me I've posted! I'm working out, alternate days of cardio and weight training and doing Pilates for my tummy. Skin is a big issue for me unfortunately, but I'm trying to focus on positives. Best of luck to you! -

I have been very patient. For the past month, I have been stuck. I know things slow down when you get close to your goal (15-20 more lbs) and I've tried to just wait this out. I use the elliptical trainer and do strength training and Pilates, I use mfp, I follow all the rules (almost all the time, nobody's perfect!) is there a stall busting trick I don't know about? I'm so frustrated!!

Are you happy with your decision?
Jenny L replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my band for three years before it slipped. I had problems with it probably starting after the first 6 months. Chest and back pain, inflammation, vomiting, filling and unfilling... And it never took me to goal or even close. There is south pain related to the band. With the sleeve, for me, the only pain came from healing. Yes the first 30 days were rough. Really rough. But I feel great now, and when I eat 3 oz I feel full. A healthy full, not pain. The difference is night and day for me. The sleeve sounds scary, but do the research on it and you'll see less complications than for the band, and higher success rates. *so much pain. Not south lol
