Did revision due to weight gain actually work for you?
StratusPhr replied to JulieCab's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was up at 2:30 AM sipping (3 sips will do it) a carbonated drink because of chest pain. This has been going on since about 18 months after sleeve surgery. (June 2010!!!) I had NO idea this was a hiatal hernia symptom. My NP (when I finally said something a couple of years later) called it non cardiac chest pain, said I was having spasms. Medication prescribed did not help at all. I finally stopped and tried what a friend told me to do. Take a few sips of a carbonated drink. I resisted because I don't drink anything carbonated since before surgery. It worked and I keep something in the frig at all times. I hope this new doctor who is familiar with bariatric patients, will help me and insurance will cover it. Thank you and good luck!!! -

Are most people with a hernia and GERD approved for a revision? -
Hey! Revision(ist), I want to hear from you! Tell me your experience: revision in June. Nervous

Thank you so much. I can eat pepperoni pizza and it about kills me, it did PRIOR to WLS!!! LOL Now days salad will do it. I appreciate you taking the time to give me an idea of what to expect. Ph test does not sound fun. Can they just give you enough xanax or something to make you oblivious for a day I wonder!!! Have a great weekend!! Good luck, you'll probably be having surgery around the time I go for my first visit! -
How Much Weight Loss During Liquid Diet
StratusPhr replied to PhenomenalWoman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you go from a sleeve to RNY? If so, how are you doing, did it eliminate the GERD? Any more weight loss? How much? Good luck!! -

I'm experiencing everything you are except rapid gastric emptying. I've been on pranprozole since Nov 2019. Gastrologist will not even discuss repairing the hernia. I've started needing Tums again. Prior to seeing this doctor I had been eating 8 - 10 Tums a day, I had no idea that was a bad thing! I had them in the console of my truck, in the house and some by the bed so I could roll over in the middle of the night and get a couple. Did your doctor suggest revision immediately or will I have to go through a series of tests, medications etc? I was cash pay for the sleeve, but it was elective surgery. This would be medically necessary I suspect. Thoughts? Advice appreciated. -

Considering revision

Our BCBS Anthem doesn't cover WLS, any idea if insurance will cover a revision due to GERD and a hiatal hernia? First appointment next month so it has not been suggested or recommended. I'm ahead of myself, but would like to have an idea of what I'm in for. -
Sleeve to RnY Revision
StratusPhr replied to alittler09's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am considering the same thing you did for the same reason. I see this post is from 2017. I'd love an update about GERD/reflux and also weight loss. How much did you lose after the revision, and how are you doing at maintaining? Any regain? Thank you in advance! -
Anthem denied claim after surgery completed
StratusPhr replied to DeeTee's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am possibly looking at a revision from sleeve to RNY. GERD, and apparently I have a small ulcer and had a stricture. I was cash pay for the sleeve, any experience with insurance, specifically Anthem BCBS covering this if it comes to that? Thanks y'all. -
VSG to RYGB - after 5 years with VSG
StratusPhr replied to Paradigm Star's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have an appointment with a bariatric surgeon/general surgeon June 17. I had sleeve surgery 6/2010. Maintained at or below goal for six years. Slowly I regained 38 lbs, but worse than that, the GERD. I had a endoscopy done Nov 2019, I have a hiatal hernia that he says will come back so he will not do surgery. He put me on a prescription med and that's it. Worked for two months perfectly, I'd been eating 8 - 12 Tums per day and went to zero. I started needing an occasional Tum so he upped the med to twice a day. For the past couple of months I am needing a Tums more and more, weekly, although maybe two or three in one day, once or twice a week. He failed to mention there was an ulcer and stricture. I am a bit worried. I know how dangerous an ulcer can be. I am preparing myself for RNY, is that the ONLY way to fix all of this? Would the GERD stop and could I/would I lose 25-40 lbs that I've regained? I messed up when we left Dallas, I had been going to a couple of support group meetings twice a month, I was logging my food, we moved and I stopped. What is your opinion? Do I ask about it, for it or just prepare myself for the possibility? Thank you! -

I love Premier Protein, it is the ONLY protein I've tasted in the past 4.5 years that I DO like. I wish it'd been around back in 2010, I'd have had a much less stressful time!! I was at a support group meeting a few months ago and the nurse was giving out full sized 'samples' of chocolate.....they said, "Make sure they're cold", so I brought it home and popped it into the frig, I always have glass glasses in the freezer......which is wonderful. The next morning I poured it into a frosted glass and had the first "choc milk" I'd had in 4.5 years!!!! I could be a spokesperson for them......I love these things. Someone let me have a vanilla, I didn't like it as well, very sweet. I'm sticking to chocolate. I've gone from getting 60 - 80 grams a day to getting 90 - 115!!!

when will i stop losing weight?
StratusPhr replied to DBLPattyMELT7am's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a hard time stopping, I ended up 17 lbs BELOW goal and my size 4's were getting big. After talking to my dietitian, I started adding calories back in to get back UP to where I wanted to be. Who'd have even thought I'd need to gain weight......it took several months, but I did manage to get back into the low - mid 140's, still below Dr. Davidson's goal, but it give me the "pad" I wanted. I've been maintaining at or below goal for over 4.5 years now!! -
For those that had surgery with pre-op weight in 220's
StratusPhr replied to JALUVIC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I never thought I could do it on my own and KEEP IT OFF!! I'd been yo yo dieting for 30 years! The day of the seminar I weighed 228, I had two months before I was flying back to Dallas for surgery. No "pre-op" two week diet, I had 2 months to lose 10 - 15 lbs, per the doctor's orders. I lost 23, I've NEVER had a problem losing. I'd lost 50 lbs three different times in my life and less amounts more times than I can remember......once I got off the "diet" the weight came back, so no, I never had doubts. Total I've lost about 85 lbs, I've been easily maintaining at or below Dr. Davidson's goal, since Dec 2010. His goal was 150, mine was 145.....I stay between 144 and 147. Not one minute of buyer's remorse and I know there is no way I could have lost this amount and never could I have kept it off. It is life altering! -
Surgery and Travel...how soon can I travel after surgery?
StratusPhr replied to twil1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I flew to Dallas for surgery. I stayed here for two weeks, I traveled to Longview (3 hours) when I was discharged, then back to Dallas for my one week checkup. For week #2 of recovery, we went to Galveston for a week (5 hours), then back to Dallas for my 2 week appt with Dr. Davidson. After that, I flew back home. Dr. D's instructions were, stop the car once every hour and get out and walk around the car. When I flew home, I was told to get up and walk down the isle once an hour. I had to do this for the first six weeks. -
What is everyone NOT going to miss after sleeve?
StratusPhr replied to alexsisv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't miss walking into a room and feeling like the 'biggest girl in the room'. Many times, I'm the smallest. I don't miss being hungry, I mean that OMG, I'm starving hunger. Hopefully, after all this time, it will never return. -
I asked my Doctor what size bouie did he use on me, and he said size 40
StratusPhr replied to Gail Ann's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine is a 32, but my surgeon said they're doing 36's - 40's now. -
ex·cuse verb ikˈskyo͞oz/ 1. attempt to lessen the blame attaching to (a fault or offense); seek to defend or justify. Just for the record, for ALL of you out there. You do not need an "excuse" to NOT do something, whether it be walking in a 5K or climbing on a treadmill. My 'excuse' - I have no interest, 'Nuff said. Don't ever feel pressured or bullied, yes, BULLIED - don't ever feel 'less than' because you cannot or CHOOSE not to do what others do. Do not feel this is a competition. Do not feel if you aren't participating, you will be shunned or that you're an outcast. You are not. We all must find the path that works best for us as we learn to maneuver our way through this tiny tummy business. Some of us are animals when it comes to walking, running and exercise - let me stop right here and say, many of these people are my friends, they know who they are and they know how much I respect and admire what they do. I am pretty sure I could not do what they do. I don't want to do what they do, but I sure love following their progress and dedication. The point is, time and again I see a "What's your excuse?" and it rubs me the wrong way. Bullying rubs me the wrong way and it IS bullying, you can put lipstick on that pig, but it's still a pig. "What's your excuse" is NOT encouragement, it is NOT support, it is a dig to try and make you feel less than and that is NOT ok. Ever.

There are several support groups that I attend in the NE Plano area. Near Allen, Frisco, Richardson. We have one guy that drives from Forney to attend. There's a group of us that have impromptu get togethers as well. Ten of us met today at an area Starbucks, we do things like this on a fairly regular basis. If you're interested, email me at curt_frisbie@msn.com and I'll add you to our list, I'll make sure you're included.
