elfnow got a reaction from val326 in Healing with a 2 year old?
My little was 15mo when I had surgery, and still nursing! She's small, under 20 lbs at the time ... The worst part for me is that we co-sleep to nurse and she'd kick my belly. I started putting a pillow between us, and after 2 weeks it wasn't an issue. We are still going strong with the nursing too... My milk supply hasn't dropped too badly.
The nurses and doc told me I could pick her up if I was sitting down - so I did. And if she fussed a lot or flailed, I'd just go with a calm "honey that hurts mama, let's calm down..." And set her down.
Now, the first week I couldn't particularly get up and care for her myself - certainly couldn't have done it without a ton of support from my partner and best friend!! I slept a lot (pain meds) and had to be careful getting up and such... But as the weight started sliding off, my ability to play with her and be active with her has increased dramatically!!! Now I'm dragging her out canoeing (poor kid hates her life jacket) and she loved cuddling my very warm squishy tummy.
So yeah, for the first week it's pretty hard. For the first month it's a learning curve (and you eat less than your kid!). And after that... You've got it.
I think the hardest thing about having a toddler and surgery is all the snacky foods she gets that I shouldn't have.

elfnow reacted to Kindle in This is NOT the "magic pill" I hoped for! I need help with my bad food choices ASAP
Who told you this was a "magic pill"?! Did you not have a psych eval? Did you not have preop counseling? Did you not spend any time researching what this surgery meant? You said "this is what I was afraid of", so I assume you knew exactly what you were getting into. Why would you waste all your doctor's good work just to keep doing the same things you did before surgery. The surgery itself was the easy part. You need to take responsibility for your decision and figure out why you are sabotaging yourself.
Does your doctor have a support group or therapist you could talk to? Making poor food choices will only get easier and easier the farther out you get. You need to stop now. Sorry to sound so harsh but geez, I don't get why you would just throw away such a great opportunity.
On the other hand, I COULD be wrong. Unlike the other posters on here, I do not track or count anything. But I know what I am and am not supposed to eat. It's really not that hard if you get your head straight and focus on your goal. There's more than one way to succeed with your sleeve and you need to find what works for you. If you are losing weight, reach your goal, feel good, have no complications, then good for you! In which case you should stop feeling guilty and enjoy this wonderful weight loss adventure.

What's been helpful for me is that my postop diet is basically low carb. I don't want to knock myself put of ketosis, so that's what's helping me stay on track.

Not to sound harsh, but damn it, you know what to do, now that you've undergone this major/life-changing surgery...quit whining and just do it!
The first two months were the most challenging for me, as well as almost everyone else!
You will get through this, however you have to want it, nobody can do it for you...and trust me, you do want it!
This has been a blessing for me and my wife (she was sleeved exactly 2 months after me)...and you will see, the transformation will be friggin' incredible! You cannot fathom how much the weight loss is going to change your life...you just gotta get through the gettin' through!
Good luck and Godspeed for a quick recovery! (Tough love rant over! )

elfnow got a reaction from Poseyrosey in My sweet partner...
Yeah. And of course I'm like "nooooo still gotta lose 100 more!" But I DO look good... And I don't see "compared to where I was" when I look in a mirror, I just see me now.
He also paid for my surgery out of pocket. So I'm glad he approves of the results so far.
I found him on the internets! And he's not traditionally "handsome" or "sexy", but he's been losing weight with me (he's lost about 30 lbs exercising with me!) .... And his heart is absolutely FIRMLY in the right place.... And that's the most important part of all, isn't it?
FWIW, Madame reverie, he's often all about monosyllabic grunts in person.... But he's pretty eloquent in text.

I've lost 110 lbs since my heaviest....
95 since pre-surgery diet (1/27/14)
75 since surgery (2/10/14)
Today I put on size 20 "skinny" jeans... And took a picture in the mirror and sent it to my partner.
During our conversation, he texted me:
"You are at the point where the phrase "you look fantastic" no longer needs the follow up "compared to where you were". You simply look fantastic."

Yesterday my husband had enough. He couldn't stand seeing me in my baggy yoga pants anymore (so he said), so he took me shopping. I started to pick out size 16, while HW picked out 12's. I said no way am I a 12, he insisted I try them on. OMG a size 12 jean and they fit. They actually buttoned! And to top it all off he had picked out skinny jeans. Me in skinny jeans! If you had told me this 4 months ago I would have laughed and called you crazy. So of course he bought them for me. After a few rocky months, I can honestly say I love my sleeve.
