What month did you first try carbonated drinks?
elfnow replied to Unhappysleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I sipped some almost-flat diet sprite and just didn't really like it. I can't drink it fast enough for it to quench any thirst or particular desire, so aside from the occasional idle sip to swallow a pill (you know, forgot my own Water so I'm swiping my mate's drink).... Meh. No real need. I also sipped some beer ("here taste this!") and it bubbled a lot more than I was comfortable with - yuck pooey!! I commented politely on the flavors of the beer (now that I have the worlds most sensitive nose) and no more needed. -
Healing with a 2 year old?

Btw the surgery is easier than a c-section, if that helps!! -
Healing with a 2 year old?
elfnow replied to GottaDoSomethin''s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My little was 15mo when I had surgery, and still nursing! She's small, under 20 lbs at the time ... The worst part for me is that we co-sleep to nurse and she'd kick my belly. I started putting a pillow between us, and after 2 weeks it wasn't an issue. We are still going strong with the nursing too... My milk supply hasn't dropped too badly. The nurses and doc told me I could pick her up if I was sitting down - so I did. And if she fussed a lot or flailed, I'd just go with a calm "honey that hurts mama, let's calm down..." And set her down. Now, the first week I couldn't particularly get up and care for her myself - certainly couldn't have done it without a ton of support from my partner and best friend!! I slept a lot (pain meds) and had to be careful getting up and such... But as the weight started sliding off, my ability to play with her and be active with her has increased dramatically!!! Now I'm dragging her out canoeing (poor kid hates her life jacket) and she loved cuddling my very warm squishy tummy. So yeah, for the first week it's pretty hard. For the first month it's a learning curve (and you eat less than your kid!). And after that... You've got it. I think the hardest thing about having a toddler and surgery is all the snacky foods she gets that I shouldn't have. -
I've lost 110 lbs since my heaviest.... 95 since pre-surgery diet (1/27/14) 75 since surgery (2/10/14) Today I put on size 20 "skinny" jeans... And took a picture in the mirror and sent it to my partner. During our conversation, he texted me: "You are at the point where the phrase "you look fantastic" no longer needs the follow up "compared to where you were". You simply look fantastic."
-
Yeah. And of course I'm like "nooooo still gotta lose 100 more!" But I DO look good... And I don't see "compared to where I was" when I look in a mirror, I just see me now. He also paid for my surgery out of pocket. So I'm glad he approves of the results so far. I found him on the internets! And he's not traditionally "handsome" or "sexy", but he's been losing weight with me (he's lost about 30 lbs exercising with me!) .... And his heart is absolutely FIRMLY in the right place.... And that's the most important part of all, isn't it? FWIW, Madame reverie, he's often all about monosyllabic grunts in person.... But he's pretty eloquent in text.

Sleevers feedback wanted! Will I lose my hair after the Sleeve?
elfnow replied to Gr8fulMiniMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hair loss can happen with even non-surgical weight loss, even the "good ole diet and exercise" weight loss. It's genetic; some people lose more hair than others. Is temporary hair loss *really* the deciding factor over whether you have a surgical procedure that will positively impact your health for the rest of your life? -
Ok we'll just use 279 as my start weight... My goal is to be into the 260's... Maybe 250's.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! What a great feeling!!

I happened to notice my glass was cracked. But really, the food was about to come and I don't need any more tea.... "Oh no don't worry, you don't have to get me another," I said. You sure? You sure? Seriously? Are you sure? But it's no problem.... "No no it's nothing wrong. I've had surgery and I can't have any Water or anything after I eat any food." Oh..... Okayyyy.... I guess.... Another server is all "OMG do you need a drink?" No no, I'm fine. The manager comes over to ask me if I need another tea. NO REALLY I DON'T!! It's not a problem, you could bring 30 glasses and I can't drink any of it, so it's ok!! Are you sure? For the love of this single scrambled egg with cheese, yes, I am sure. --Em

Weight gain predisposition because of WLS?

THIS!!! It is possible to get your Resting Metabolic Rate tested - my partner and I were able to do this (for a fee) through our gym. This helped us really see how our activity makes a difference. -
Almost 3 months out and starting to have pain, cramping feeling
elfnow replied to Littlegirldreamer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did your doc prescribe a med to help "cramping" pain? Definitely call them and just say it's kinda started back up and wtf... Because it can be symptomatic of a problem. On the other hand it may be that some of the nerves in the stomach are growing back and letting you know how "thrilled" they are to have been damaged. -
I notice that my cycle lasts an extra 2-3 days of dark brown spotting... Nothing dramatic but a little bit "aren't we done yet?! Jeez." I know it's a giant pain in the butt, believe me (I have a young child and a copper IUD ... so my monthly can be ridiculous for 2 days and then taper off to merely "normal") but I see the little extra spotting as a reminder that I AM LOSING FAT!! I'm losing places for all this estrogen to be stored! Woooot!! I will also warn you... If you were not previously ovulating, and you switch to birth control that allows ovulation (such as Paragard)... Or you BEGIN ovulating... Be warned that between your newfound happiness at smaller clothes/smaller body/feeling sexier and the strength of ovulation hormones... Your significant other might need to watch out, lest they get tied down and used mercilessly. For me, anyway, I previously had some pretty strong ovulation-time "urges" but now we're wearing out batteries every month. Not that anyone's complaining.

Tubal ligation and gastric sleeve surgery
elfnow replied to mahickmore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh oh I didn't realize it was the laparoscope scarring you were worried about.. No, still they'll find other sites for the scopes and tissue removal - they don't use the belly button at all. -
I've got nothing but warm wishes for a speedy recovery. This is NOT your fault!!
-
Hang in there, don't worry about food, just stay hydrated!! Worry about food later. remember BRAT diet for post-stomach-bug: bananas, rice, apple sauce, toast. Even a half a banana will help settle your guts down.

Tubal ligation and gastric sleeve surgery
elfnow replied to mahickmore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your ovaries are nowhere NEAR your stomach. I mean seriously that would have to be some really in-depth scar tissue. There's a whole mess of intestines between your ovaries and stomach!! Where did you read this? -
I've always had "deep veins" and I've always been pretty sure this is nurse-code for "fat". I used to squick and squirm about getting IVs or doing blood draws, but eventually I learned to just calm the f* down and everyone's life is easier. I have coached people through which veins might hold, which veins blow easier, where to try looking, and a lot of "no it's ok you can keep poking." I've stopped having to ask for a pediatric needle as I've gotten better at telling people where to look, but it's still a chore. Can't ever find the one in my elbow - always gotta go with my hand.... My surgeon sent me for my 100-lbs-lost blood work (85+ since pre-surgery diet but 104 since my first visit!) and I went to the lab, took a deep breath and said, "I'm pretty patient about getting stuck, so if you can't find a vein right away, it's OK. My veins are hard to find." "No, I see it, it's right there," said the tech. I looked. Sure enough I saw a little glint of blue in the fossa! "Your veins are great," she said. "Great veins"?!? I have NEVER had "great veins"!!! But losing some of the thick fat in my arms.... Now I have great veins. WHO KNEW.
