I am an emotional eater and have struggled with my weight all my adult life. Everytime something bad happened in my life, I turned to food. I have been a diet roller coaster forever. I lost my Mother in March of 2012, devestated, I was at 210 at the time of her death, by Christmas of 2012, I was about 250, then by January another 20 pounds. My cousins had the lap band, and I decided that I would have it too. Looked like they were doing pretty good, so what the heck. I went to a gastro dr in my area, and he was no longer doing the lap band( due to all the complications of long term use), so they talked to me about what I wanted to go for. He suggested the gastric sleeve, which I had no clue about. So, during my six month waiting period, I researched and looked at blogs, Utube videos, and just gathered whatever information I could. DID NOT go to any group therapy, which was a big mistake. At the day of sugery, July 26, 2013, I weighed in at 283. I was miserable inside and out, and could not believe that I had done that to myself....again. I had always lost weight with addipex, however, the minute I got off the diet pills, what do you think happened? I blew right back up and then some. Typical story, I know...SOOO, I had the surgery, and when I woke up in recovery, was in excrusiating pain. I was like oh Lord, what have I done. Could not have anything by mouth until the next day when I had to have an xray to make sure there was no leaks...really scared me then. The first two months, I spent, crying, frustrated, hurting and miserable. I could not take anything in more than 2 tablespoons at a time, could not drink very much, was always hurting, and was thinking I had made the biggest mistake of my life. Wishing I had listened to my husband which was against it all the way up til the day of surgery. BUT, now on the brighter side of the story, it has now been 6 1/2 months, I have lost a total of 86 lbs today, 2/19/2014, and I have learned to adjust. No more pain, and I can eat what I want, but only small amounts, of course I watch what I eat, because I have met so many people that had a gastric bypass years ago, and they are all back over 200. I pray this does not happen to me. I just need to keep in touch with people that can keep me motivated to go forward. How are you coming along?
