Hi there. I also posted this in the Nevada forum but thought it might get more exposure here. My mother-in-law was banded in November in Mexico but is trying to find a good fill doctor near her. She lives in Henderson, NV, right outside of Vegas. Does anyone know any doc that is good and reasonably priced? Thanks.

So, I am moving to Oregon on Friday and had found a fill doctor in Portland. Not such an easy thing to do being a patient that was banded in Mexico. Anyway, I got a call from Dr. Eubanks scheduler this afternoon saying that all appts and fills for bariatric patients are on hold indefinitely. I guess that his liability insurance has excluded all bariatric patients so until they figure out what to do, he isn't seeing anyone for fills. I am really bummed. I was really looking forward to my fill. Now I have to find a new doctor. Oh well....this too shall pass.

Congratulations Aileena!! Way to go. Isn't it amazing to be able to eat small portions and feel full. I have been struggling with this as of late, but when I do feel it, I love it. Keep up the good work.

You are too fun Delarla...and brave...taking this stuff before you knew what it was. I do admit that I am intrigued now. I will have to do more research on it. I tend to have a poor immune system and seem to always be coming down with something. I went on Ebay and typed in "Xango". There are a lot of bottles for sale at a price less than the $37.00. I may have to check it out.

I posted in the sticky thread in the general section, but I don't know if anyone saw it. Since everyone eats...hehe...I thought I'd post it here. So, I hate my Vitamin. I dread taking it because it tastes so bad. I was considering Vitamist or the Source of Life liquid vitamin from Nature's Plus that Penni mentioned. Any opinions on either one?

I agree with Kathy. I would wait and reschedule when you return home. My doctor won't even fill you if you are getting ready to go on a trip or vacation. She thinks it's just too much and your eating habits won't be the same as when you are home. If it were me, I would definitely reschedule the fill. Enjoy your trip, as much as you can in a third world country, and then get a fill when you return. Just my 2 cents.

I think that you will find that everyone is pretty much fiercely loyal to their type of WLS. I know I have said that I would NEVER have bypass or RNY. A lot of those folks would say the same thing about a band. I would just focus on what you believe in and get your information from reliable sources. It does "suck" when others put down the band, but you know....that's their loss. Best of luck to you.

No problem. We have four kitties. They are our "fur babies". I can't imagine life without them.

You can get liquid Children's Motrin. I used to take it at the start of a really bad headache because liquid works faster than pills. You just have to figure out the correct doseage. One Motrin/Ibuprofen pill is 200mg so you have to figure how much liquid equals the amount of pill you want. I can always help you with that. (I am an RN) The heating pads also sound like a good idea. Another idea would be going to a natural food store or somewhere like GNC and see about more natural supplements that could help. Best of luck to you.

Like DeLarla said, it's no big deal. Just a physical to make sure everything that is vital is doing what it is supposed to do. How funny...your name is Heather too and your user name has kitty in it...my DtDtKty stands for Doot Doot Kitty. Best of luck to you as you navigate this journey.

Scheduled For Independance Day!!!
DtDtKty replied to Mariposa Bella's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations Estela!!!! How appropriate....Independence Day.... I can't wait to be free from my tummy. I will definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I am sure everything will work out well for you. Best of luck. Hugs to you. -
I am on the same train....We had "tried" to get pregnant for a couple of months earlier in the year, but I ovulation and hormones were all off. I have possible PCOS and fat cells hold Estrogen, so no wonder I was having issues at the highest weight of 292.4. A major motivation to lose weight, beyond getting healthy, is to have a baby. I was assured that it was perfectly safe to do with the band. Best of luck to you.

How quickly did everyone return to normal activites?
DtDtKty replied to soonergirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is really an individual thing. It may help that you are starting at a lower weight. I had surgery Thursday afternoon and was really sick from the anesthesia Thurs. and Fri. I went home on Saturday and started feeling more like myself by Monday night or Tuesday. I remember that I was back sitting by the computer by Sunday. Best of luck to you. Make sure that they give you nausea medicine (an antiemetic), like Zofran, before you go under, and then routinely give it to you while you are there. The anesthesia stays in your body for a while. For me, the nausea was worse than the pain. Good luck. -
Welcome Melissa. So glad you found us. It sounds like you are well on your way in starting this journey. July will be here before you know it. Best of luck to you.

Welcome to LBT Jamie. As Teresa and Paula stated, there is a huge wealth of information on this site at your disposal. I encourage you to read, read, read and learn as much as you can about your options. Best of luck to you.

Welcome to LBT!!! How wonderful that you have such great family support. This is a great place for support and information too. I love that one of your reasons for losing weight is so you can keep up with your kids. This is also one of my reasons...so when I have kids, I can keep up with the little rug rat. Best of luck to you as you begin this journey.

I had my first fill & almost passed out!
DtDtKty replied to DtDtKty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Vines...I plan on DH coming with me for all future fills. I still can't believe that I have no issues sticking needles in other people, but I can't cope when it's me...too funny. -
What a wimp I am!!!...and I'm an RN too!!! I guess it just goes to show you that just because you can do procedures to other people doesn't mean you are ok when they are done on you. I went to Dr. Kelly Fitzpatrick in Portland. She was so nice and kind. She made me feel very comfortable. She found my port easily by palpation and had me stand up for the fill. I was doing ok at first, but then I started getting really hot and sweaty. Dr. Kelly and husband said I got really pale and lost all color. She had me sit down and then lie down when things started to get spacey and I felt like I was going to pass out. She had my husband wet a cloth for my head. After a few minutes, when I had started to recover, we went through the whole drinking Water thing. It was difficult to know what I was feeling exactly, but I think I'm ok. I was having a sensation in my throat like I have to burp as I was leaving, but she said it should go away. If not, I am supposed to come back tomorrow. I feel a little sore but I'm sure that is normal. I am supposed to be on thin fluids for 24 hours, then soft foods for 24 hours, and then regular food. I am sipping some decaf tea right now. So, that's my first fill. I hope I'm not too tight, but I guess tomorrow will tell. I got 1.4 cc. Despite the excitement, I really liked Dr. Kelly and am excited to have her follow the rest of my medical care as well.

I was banded April 21st. I had my first fill on June 16th, exactly 8 weeks post op. I have lost 33.5 lbs so far. I am feeling great and am looking forward to the continued weight loss. As my ticker shows, I will soon be down to only 100 lbs left to lose...yippeee!!!!!
-
Robyn...Do you realize that you have lost more than a pound a day since your surgery?! That is so awesome!!!! I was in your shoes until last Thursday, so I know how hard it is. Hang in there though. Use this time to start building your healthy eating habits and practicing the band rules. Even if you have to add more meals during the day to be full, try to stick to the rules and drink plenty of Water. July will be here before you know it. Hugs to you.

Great list. Thank for the info.!!

Congrats on one week under your belt! You sound like you are doing well so far. Try drinking your shakes nice and slowly. This will help fill you up. Also, are you blending them with ice or fruit in the blender? I don't know if your doctor allows this at your stage, but if he does, a slushy protein shake will help keep you fuller too. Finally, I was told I could drink all I wanted in the stage you are at. If you are hungry...drink. Don't deprive yourself. You should be focusing on healing your body at this point. Don't worry about the weight loss. Any pounds that come off before your first fill are a bonus. Best of luck to you. Hugs.

Welcome to LBT Beth!!!! Your fears and feelings are completely normal. It is ok to be scared. For me, I had to weigh the risks and benefits and the benefits of having the surgery and changing my life, far outweighed the possible surgery and anesthesia risks. I couldn't be happier with my decision. I didn't feel too hot the day after surgery, I have a huge sensitivity to meds, but 2 months and 33 lbs. later, it was the best thing I ever did. You can do this!!! Hang in there and get all of the testing done. The testing is a good thing...the more they know about you, the better care they can take of you...and that means a lesser risk of complications. Hugs to you.
