  1. Hi! Please do not get me wrong but I find it strange that you are talking possible marriage but you do not know how to bring up the issue of his unhealthy lifestyle being a problem with you? In relationships you have to be open and honest and respectful. Just tell him everything that you wrote on this forum, and find out what he thinks. Perhaps give him some time to change and if he does not then you will know what to do. But you have to be honest with him about your concerns.
  2. When originally I wanted the sleeve, my surgeon told me flat out that I will most likely will come back for a revision, and he will do it for me (hey, money talks, I was self pay), but he asked me why would I want to have two surgeries when I can have one and reach my goal? But I was so obsessed with the thought of sleeve that I did not listen to him, and he got kind of fed up with me. Turned out I had GERD, so then he said no way for the sleeve and I had to go along, so I got the bypass. I could not be happier. No more reflux, and my weight loss is rather on the slow side but it's steady. Plus I can eat anything and I do not have dumping. Also, my Dr said that only 50% of the bypass patients will have vitamin deficiency. I know plenty of ppl with bypass who do not take any vitamins and they are just fine.

    Im falling apart!

I remember when I got my surgery date, I lost total control over my eating. Not that I had much control before but I went on several food funerals. I ate like never before, a lot and only the best! I gained about 10 pounds!!!! I had no pre-op diet. So in one hand I am happy I pigged out for a few weeks (months?) before my surgery because no jokes, this is for real now, I really can not eat much and I do not enjoy food anymore. Maybe I enjoy the first few bites and that's it. On the other hand I wish I had 10 pounds less to lose now...

    Stomach pain?

So I am a month out and I feel very lucky because I had a very smooth surgery and recovery. I never threw up, never got sick or nauseated, and I can tolerate just about any food if I chew it well. Still, my favs are the Protein shake and yoghurts. However I really have to eat every 2-3 hours, if I forget about eating I get sudden stomach cramps, really intense, and I feel like I will pass out. I have to sit down and immediately I have to eat something, like a yoghurt or pudding, and the pain goes away as fast as it came. Is this happens to anybody else? I hate it, I have a fast paced job and I can not just sit down and eat. I will return to work on Monday and I am worried...

    Starving!

I was dying of hunger on day 5!!!!!!!!! I was the happiest girl that I was able to start pureed food on day 5. Lifesaver, and I was surprised how much I ate. (lot!) I am on solids now and it is much better, but I get hungry in every 2-3 hours.

    Holy Cow! Wasn't expecting this!

Same story here. Wanted the sleeve but turned out I have reflux, so my doctor said forget about the sleeve, you are getting the bypass I am now happy I went with the bypass but I was heartbroken than. But it all went smooth and I am surprised that I can eat a lot so I am actually glad for the malabsorption... By the way my surgeon said that people so overweight like me (us) will have reflux, and if endoscopy do not show reflux then the endoscopy was not carried out properly. Now I dunno if he is right or wrong but this is what he told me...

    Miss my........

Absolutely me too. I miss the huge portions, I know it's sick but eating 3 spoonfuls will never make me happy. I deal with it as I have to coz can not eat more, but I really miss like finishing a pizza or a big bowl of pasta, a nice cake, and I could go on. I am still cooking huge portions and shopping like I used to, and then my BF has to eat up everything

    Success Stories?

I wanted to have the sleeve as I really did not like the idea of malabsorption and re-routing my intestines. I was 100% sure I am the prefect candidate for the sleeve, I told my surgeon too that I want the sleeve not the bypass. He did not agree, he said i would have better success with the bypass but I did not listen. Then I had my endoscopy and turned out I have GERD. So my surgeon pretty much refused to do the sleeve and I had to listen to him, so I went with the bypass. I am glad I did, I have no problems with eating whatsoever, if anything I have to watch coz I eat too much but I can tolerate everything and no more reflux. Do not be scared because with the bypass you will get your health back. Malabsorption only occurs 50% of the time, I know plenty of ppl who doesn't have any vitamin deficiency. Same with dumping, I have none, I can have a nice ice cream any day I want - but I guess that is the last thing you crave after eating it for so long No worries, soon you will feel much better! Keep us updated!

April 2014 RNY/Bypass Post Op Support

You are right, and I know without this surgery I would have suffered to lose 23 pounds, but with this surgery it was not so hard. I mean I still had to and have to watch what I eat but I can control my hunger better. I have hope now. And hey, I wish every month would suck as this did hehehe, 23 pounds in a month...I know next month will be half as much so lets be grateful ladies!!!!

April 2014 RNY/Bypass Post Op Support

I am one month out tomorrow and I lost 23 pounds. I am ok with that, not so much, I see bigger numbers here but try not to compare myself to others - we are all different and lose in different pace. One thing for sure: If I eat a diet high in sugar and carbs (even if I am within my calorie goal) my weight loss slows down drastically. Carb is my enemy, and that is sad coz I loooove carbs. Also, I am hungry a lot, and I could eat way more then what I eat, so I log everything on MFP to make sure I do not go over my calorie limit. Its not easy, its not easy for me, I see loads of ppl here saying they have no appetite ect, my apetite and hunger returned on day 5 after surgery!!!!!!!!!!

    My Fitness Pal

    Hello! Sent you an invite!
  14. I think it is something where you have to follow your doctor's orders. The first few weeks are crucial for your healing. We all differ how we had to proceed with our post op diet. Like for me was nothing through mouth for 3 days, clear liquid on day 4, and pureed from day 5! 5 days hospital stay was standard with my surgeon. Day 10 I was on well chewed solids!!! I progressed fast and never had problems, but you see every surgeon has different rules and ideas about post op diet, and we are all different as far as tolerating various food goes.

    Surgery tomorrow!

You will be fine, I can not wait to hear from you! Good luck and see you on the losers bench soon!

    5 days post op, diarrhea.

Early on milk and dairy products gave me diarrhea and horrible gas, I mean I made the dog leave the room. I was horrified! So I cut out milk and reduced my dairy intake to minimum for a few days and I have not had these symptoms ever since. Try to make your protein shake with water for a few days and then slowly introduce milk back to your diet. Good luck!
  17. Two days to go for you, best of luck on your surgery! You got this! As far as hunger, I was very hungry after my surgery about on day 5. Luckily I was able to start pureed food on day 5, so I was allright but hunger was always there. Day 10 I was on well chewed solids (I know its fast but thats how my surgeon does it), and hunger got much better. I am 3.5 weeks out and I can tolerate just about everything but I can only have a few bites. My Protein shakes are life savers! For me hunger gets better and with introducing solids I can eat much less, when I was on pureed I felt constant hunger. Your PPI medication is also crucial in hunger management. Now when I eat I do not get that nice, full feeling I used to get before the surgery. Now it is just...hard to describe but nothing pleasant, more like u feel u r stuffed even though you only had 2 bites. Lots of head games and lot to deal with emotionally. Everybody goes through this journey differently, and while I was very lucky, no pain, no issues with intolerance, no dumping, on the other hand I have to closely watch my calorie intake even this early out because I could eat more then I do right now. Have to make wise choices, opt for the non fat and the sugar free over the better tasting stuff. But its the price we have to pay for the mistakes we made earlier on. Again, good luck and let us know how is everything with you!

    Waves of Pouch Pain

I am only 3 weeks out so I might not be much help, but I have been told to skip a day every week with my PPI (for you Protonix I take a different PPI), as I need stomach acid for better digestion. So yesterday was my first trial to skip my PPI and Oh Lord was I in pain by this morning??? I felt the same pain you described. So I think your pain has a connection with the Protonix. Ask your doctor if you might should up your daily dose or maybe change you for a different PPI. I am alleregic to pantoprazole such as Protonix, so I take rabeprazole based PPI and it seems to work. Again, just an idea, but do not panic just talk to your surgeon.

Snacking or as I like to call "grazing"...

I log everything into MFP and I freak out when I see how much calories I take in with grazing. Unnecessary calories! So I usually do not allow myself to snack only if I really really really go crazy for a cookie or something. Its hard but I have to be strict with myself or otherwise I will fail...

    April 2014 pre-op group

I'm 10 days out too. Still on full liquids. I start pureed legally Monday. It must be really hard. I was 5 days out when I was cleared for pureed food. By then I was super hungry and I was glad for the pureed food, mashed potatoes was heaven!!! On day 10 I was cleared for solids, things are much better since then. On pureed I felt hungry alot, since I am on solids I am full after 3 bits. Things are looking up, I am feeling great! I wish you all the best!

Gastric Reflux Post Op... A Survey

@@LilMissDiva Irene , you are doing great with the weight loss, only 3 pounds to go, you got this, but I am sure your doctor will be kind when he sees you have tried your best - in case you wont lose the last pound! I hope he will be able to give you a date so you will have something to look forward to. I can only imagine your discomfort now with the GERD. Even with my big tummy my GERD was bothering me, I was not going to risk having it even worst. Things will work out soon for you just be strong now and keep your eyes on the prize! I know it must be very hard to go under the knife again especially because you have been very successful with the sleeve...unfortunately it looks like that surgery was not the best choice for you. Before you got the sleeve, did your doctor informed you about the risk of GERD, and did you have GERD before surgery? My surgeon was pushing super hard for the bypass and I just kept talking about the sleeve, and he was really pissed off with me He said he does not want to give me a surgery that will make my life a living hell. He actively advocated the bypass for me...I am glad I accepted his opinion and trusted him.

Hi anyone having surgery April/may from uk

Hello ladies. I live in the UK but originally from Hungary, and I had my bypass surgery on April 14th in Hungary. Everything went well, the procedure is a bit different then in the UK. I had no pre-op diet, 5 days hospital stay is standard, first night is ALWAYS on ICU even if u r doing fine, and nothing through mouth for 3 days minimum. not even water. I am doing great, on the 10th day after surgery I was cleared to eat solid food!!! It was a releif because I was super hungry on pureed food. Since I am on solids I can only eat 2-3 bites of anything. Loving this life and losing nicely!!! I wish you all the best!

Gastric Reflux Post Op... A Survey

I was always in love with the thought of getting the gastric sleeve. On the pre-ops I have found out I have GERD. I felt the acid in the throat before but never thought I have reflux... So my doctor said he would not want to do the sleeve since it will make my GERD even worst. I had to trust his knowledge and expertise so I went with the bypass and I could not be happier. No more acid! When is your revision LittleMissDiva? Good luck hun!
  24. I have the same issue as you, and I have only found out on the pre-op blood test. So me and my surgeon decided to not start anything until 3 months after my surgery when I due for another blood test and he wants to see if maybe with weight loss the hormonal issue will resolve by itself. I doubdt it but I am willing to give a chance and I hope for the best!!! I have to add that my slow thyroid doesnt seem to affect my weightloss- When I have found out I have hypothyroidism I was worried that it will be harder for me to lose weight but I am down 8 kilos (17pound) in 15 days. I am happy with that!
  25. I was 100% sure I want the sleeve. I was absolutely sure all I need is restriction and I can do the rest. My surgeon recommended the bypass but I ignored him and kept talking about the sleeve and how much I think it is the surgery for me. Then I had my pre-ops and turns out I have reflux. I was heartbroken that I have to go for the bypass - and how happy I am now! Looking back now I am not sure if restriction only would have been enough for me...I dunno, maybe. But knowing the malabsorption is there too, gives me an extra assurance, although I am doing my job too. I am surprised that I still have a good appetite, I enjoy food and I have no dumping - so if you choose this surgery because you have problem with sweets and you think bypass will help you to stay away from them, you might be out of luck! I wish you luck with your decision, honestly, if you suffer with reflux probably you already know bypass is your best choice.
