What were your incisions closed with?
giveyouthemoon replied to faithmd's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had glue and my incisions healed amazingly. -
Pregnant: can I refuse an un-fill?
giveyouthemoon replied to jgandg's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I think part of the problem, too, at least what my Dr said in some support meetings is that it's hard to get in the calories your ob will want while having the band. Don't want to over eat, strech the pouch and maybe slip while also pregnant. Could be tough. Best course is just exactly what you said. Talk to your ob. Talk to your band doc and then decide the best course. Good luck and congrats!! -
Ok...here's a deep dark secret of bandsterhood. The band is a fickle, fickle thing. There have been times when I had zero restriction..and could eat a lot. Then sometimes I could hardly get a bite down. Both times, the problem resolved itself on its own. I can only say it's probably something to do with retaining fluids in the tissues...up and down. It's just oddly normal.

Vomiting After a Fill...Is This Common?
giveyouthemoon replied to SeaBreeze's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Since you say it is going through your band and hitting the bigger tummy then coming up...sounds like a tummy flu or...don't know if it's possible...could you be pregnant? To me it's less of a band thing since you say it's the larger tummy, not the pouch it is coming from. However...no matter how it's coming up your stoma is inflamed! I suggest getting some aloe juice RIGHT AWAY. Take it soon. It will get the swelling down. It's an amazing help to a bandster. When I have a PB I take it right away and recover so much faster. Only need a couple small sips. It tastes terrible...hopefully a couple small sips won't come back up. -
Uh. That's more about antibiotics than cheesey biscuits. Ew.

excessive fluid / coughing when laying down
giveyouthemoon replied to gbags's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If it's not acidy/bitter, just saliva...you are too tight. Maybe just a *slight* unfill would help. Just a drop. I'm dealing with this right now too. If it's acidy or bitter, that's reflux. Also a sign of being too tight. But also could be a slip. Either way, pay a visit to your dr. -
I need Help to Help my wife with her Big 0's
giveyouthemoon replied to Tired_Old_Man's topic in The Lounge
Well...it's always easy to take it out on the ones we know are closest to us. The ones we know won't go away. The ones we can be truly ugly with and they still love us. Tho it doesn't soothe your wounds, but damn, it's a good sign she got it out. This Tina, she sounds very mentally healthy to me. You got yourself a good woman, TOM. -
Would you believe that a Google image search of "penis lobster" turned up NOTHING!?!?!? Damn.
-
heh. I did too. Personally I was looking at the....uh...lobster. That's a *nice* lobster.

I need Help to Help my wife with her Big 0's
giveyouthemoon replied to Tired_Old_Man's topic in The Lounge
Here's a quote from my very wise personal therapist. "Depressed for a week? Normal. Depressed for a month? Problem." So what if she is depressed? You are a kind and loving husband for wanting to help her. My bf is beside himself when I'm unhappy and wants to help me feel better. But as a woman, I have to be honest when I say...sometimes we just need to be depressed for a bit. And that's ok. Being sad for a few days or a week or so is a good time of self assessment. Helps us decide if there is something we want to change or if there's something we just will learn to live with. And as a man I know you want to take some action to make it better (and you are to be applauded and supported for that!). But maybe it's important to be supportive of her, let her know you're there, and give her space to be bummed out. A birthday in the midst of loved one's death brings your own mortality too much to the forefront. I had a birthday soon after my own father's death. It wasn't a milestone, but it was still difficult. Just my .02 -
Ok, I'm with a few others on this thread wavering on the fence. Part of me says "the bride is doing this just to raise a kerfuffle...which she seems to be enjoying...." A bit of passive aggressive b.s. I'm sure there is something behind it (family feuds and all that rot). Part of me says "whoever said life was fair" and why do we all try so hard to shield kids from the ways of the world? So maybe we protect Emily today, but then one day another kid gets picked to be a cheerleader or one day a coworker gets the promotion over her. Maybe Emily should be taught to know that if she's not picked, it's not that she's not pretty, or likable, or wonderful to have around. Maybe we help Emily to have strong self confidence to sustain life's injustices and realize that Aunty's problems are Aunty's problems and she doesn't have to take that out on herself. I think that's what hurts kids the most...internalizing bad behavior by others and impacting self esteem. That being said...I think Aunty is being a total tool and for the sake of family harmony should stop being a turd, buy a dress and let the poor poppet be in the ceremony!!!! And Emily is learning she has one tough take no sh*t off of anyone Grandmother..the very model of a strong woman. Now THAT is a lesson I can support!!!!

What did you feel when you awoke from surgery?
giveyouthemoon replied to luv2bingo07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I woke up disoriented. The nurses kept trying to get me to wake up. I was, oddly, surprised I was alive (I went in with CRAZY fears of dying on the table) and I said "is it over?" and they said yes. I patted my hands on my tummy and felt the glue over the incisions and then closed my eyes again and went back to sleep. You don't feel tight in your esophagus. You are on so many pain meds you don't feel much, to be honest...... -
I dont care what you do or dont believe... BUT
giveyouthemoon replied to wavydaby's topic in Rants & Raves
What scares me is that there are so many people desperate to believe in SOMETHING that they'll believe pretty much anything. Wow. -
Lol. Now that there is a nice conspiracy theory...someone oughta make a webpage like that....

At the end of the day, I'm not sure that even Ann Coulter believes the sh-- that Ann Coulter says. But she says outrageous stuff to get media play. And it works. Hoo boy does it work. In a great way, this has given Edwards SO much media play. He got huge coverage here in the Bay Area for his talk given at Berkeley and his comments regarding Coulter. She may have actually given him a boost by being such a tool. Oh, and I heard her on the radio this morning saying that gays don't think the f-word she used is offensive. I can tell her that according to my friends in the gay community, that is NOT true, it is quite offensive. And how can she dare to speak for the gays if she herself isn't a part of that community...or maybe as someone says, perhaps she doth protest too much.....
-
Ouch. Free speech hurts when people are hurling insults. If she had used the n-word to describe Barak Obama, there would be moral outrage. But because she hurled an anti-gay sentiment, it's then ok? She is a sentationalist. A media whore. And we all play into it. Even me. Launching epithets equals having balls? You said in the "Man Love does not rule in Alabama" thread: "Maybe, some people need to hate people who are different than themselves. Maybe some of those people also need to hurt people that they hate." I find her words hurtful. She may not have thrown rocks, but she threw hate. It's rude. And it's wrong. I'd rather she tear him down for his politics...I could at least respect that.

Don't ask us, ask your dr. please!! I was able to do Boost/Ensure right after surgery, but not everyone's dr is cool with that. Also, Slimfast are TERRIBLE. They are all sugar. Like others said, do an Atkins or something like it if your dr is all ok with it. Otherwise, you are all about broths. By the by...you will be really, really tired. You going to be ok going on this trip?? It is going to be REALLY hard to hide the fact you had surgery just three days post op. Think about it.....

What Have Been Your Experience?
giveyouthemoon replied to HealthQuest's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Easiest tastiest Protein around. http://www.profect.com/ It's a little vial that you slurp down. 25 grams of protein, no fat no carbs. I love this stuff! (and recommended by my surgeon now too!) -
Hey, if we're looking to support the tubby, then Richardson is your choice. I grew up in New Mexico and have been lulled into hypnosis by his flopping jowls. He has lost some weight in order to run, but he's a pudgy guy (his gubanatorial chef has told of his love for Cookies....).

Stay outta my way....I got a 70%. Enough to pass....heh. Vroom vroom!

First band-over-bypass today!
giveyouthemoon replied to Trace Curry's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dr C - congrats to you! That seems like an amazing surgery, a second chance for RNYers who are struggling. Nicely done! Congrats to your wife too, amazing progress! -
I've used it but like you said, drank it real fast and I actually added some extra water and chased it with some more water. I didn't want it expanding up in the pouch. Ouch.

Goodbye, it's been a slice, but I hope I never see you again....
giveyouthemoon replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, not for me. The single digits friends barely hung around long enough for me to get to know them.... I've come back to the 90's (the 100's version this time) and apparently they are pissed I abandoned them so carelessly the first time as they have clung on to my heiny and refuse to move along....... I really look forward to bidding them adieu. -
HELP!! I need helping picking a roller derby name!!
giveyouthemoon replied to DrewsLou's topic in The Lounge
Could you do a take off on a musician you like? You say you like punk...apologies for being a bit out of my league here (don't know a ton of punk music)...but a take off on someone's name is always cool for the derby. Like, forgive me here but when I think girl and Punk I think Nancy Spungen So you could be, for example, Nancy Spongeblood Nancy Crushem etc, etc So....who do you like? Male or female works, of course or even a band name. Give me some names and we can do a takeoff on that...... Just my .02
