My doc just says "liquids and soft food the next couple days...just take it easy". That's all the guidance I get!

Just had 2nd fill....should I go for another?
giveyouthemoon replied to Margo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I say give it a couple weeks. My first fill felt like nothing, I mean nothing. Next day I was eating full amounts. Then one morning about a week and a half later...WHAMMO. It was tight. So see how it goes. Now today I just got fill number 2. A measly .3cc, but DAAAAAAAMN, I can already feel it. Wow. Weird things these bands........ -
How do you STOP your body from going into STARVATION mode
giveyouthemoon replied to Firecallie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is the demon I'm wrasslin' with right now because no, I didn't have a plan for it going in. I'll actually have an argument, OUT LOUD, with my self in the kitchen. "You KNOW you are not hungry...so why do you want to eat???" "I just do...I have to eat!" This is a HUGE issue right now. And I'm convinced part of the root of my monthlong plateau......I just keep eating and eating even tho I'm not really hungry. And that behavior got me to where I was before banding and will keep me at this weight post banding. Good thing I have a visit to the ol' head doctor later this week. And a fill tomorrow. That's my plan...I'll let you know how that works out for me. -
How do you STOP your body from going into STARVATION mode
giveyouthemoon replied to Firecallie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think your question is less about starvation mode and more about the fear of eating this new way, of being overhungry. Of being miserable and not eating in the quantities you can now. Getting banded really does change how you look at food and how you look at being full. Don't let your fears stop you. Gotta go into 'em. We're here for you. -
Yeeow. Yes, call your doctor on Monday. See what they recommend. I know that pain meds can totally back some folks up and you don't want that. I had the opposite problem, I was only taking in liquids so I was only producing liquids. It was pretty terrible. Only cleared up after I went on mushies, and that was SIX WEEKS after surgery. Not being able to drop the deuce is a pretty common side effect. I'd bet your dr's office has a protocol they want you to follow to get things moving, so to speak. Hang in there.

Poooooor pretty perfect model had a bad day feeling like a fat person. Are we supposed to all think she has sympathy? No, she's looking for ratings, that's all. Overrated is my adjective for her.

BLEH! I have sugery on November the 18th..and live on the 3rd floor
giveyouthemoon replied to Firecallie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I had to park on the roof of the parking garage at the hospital. A parking garage with NO elevator, so upon leaving the hospital I had to climb four levels to get to the car. My sister carried my bag. I took it super slow. But it can be done. Luck on your banding!! -
Help! Calcium Citrate and other meds?
giveyouthemoon replied to SuperDaddy!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I take liquid calcium. Easy peasy. Go to your local health food store and see what they have to offer!! -
I have this problem too. When I eat the first few bites are tricky. I have to go SUPER slow right at first so I don't get stuck, then everything seems to relax and I can continue eating. Maybe try sipping a little warm liquid right before eating (yes, I know we aren't supposed to drink before eating, but maybe just a tiny amount of warm liquid?). For me, I just go real easy at first until it seems I can eat more easily. Do call your doctor if you are concerned.

I've never smoked and I coughed up plenty of gunk. You probably get *more* if you are a smoker, but coughing up the mucus is normal and in fact positive. Getting it out is preferred.

A tylenol sized pill will go down with no problem. At first, right after you are banded and still swollen you may have to crush or break up the pill and take it in pieces. You'll just have to experiment. But once you are healed, pills do go down fine with a bit extra Water to wash it through.

Yup, totally normal. I hacked up some ugly stuff for several days after. Did they give you that blue thingy to use to breathe into? To keep your lungs clear? Do that...a lot. It really helps the ol' lungs get back into shape. So far, I have to say, everything you've described so far....you sound *astoundingly* normal! Of course, if you are concerned, check with your doctor. Welcome to the land of the banded. Oh what an adventure we have in store for you!!!

Sometimes....the band just gets finicky. Sometimes something that normally is fine juuuust doesn't go down right. The cheese may have not been broken down enough, gone down in a blob and that did it. Cheese was my first pb as well. Sorry it had to happen but I still hold the belief that EVERYONE needs to have a PB so you know what to avoid. A PB is a necessary part of this whole deal. Chalk it up to a learning experience.

November is National Novel Writing Month!
giveyouthemoon replied to vinesqueen's topic in The Lounge
Whoo hoo! Glad you guys are in. This is my second year. I "won" last year, and for the record, my 50k words was about 120 pages. It was EXHILARATING to win last year. I had a bottle of chilled champagne on hand. I got there in just 21 days. I was damn near obsessed! This year I'm going much more slowly. Nary a word written in two days. GASP! Having you all on board should help motivate me!!! -
Uh...Dorfus Battyshorts....yeah, these shorts ARE batty......lol!
-
Wow....my dr suggested that I go ON them because he said that we didn't want to risk me getting pregnant any time soon after surgery. Not that it was an issue for me...lol!

whippledaddy, it's people like you, those who have gone before that I try so hard to learn from. I'm just four almost five months out. Someday I feel like I could CLIMB THE WALLS because I just want an old fashioned pig out like I used to do. It was never a GOOD way of dealing with problems....but it was a familiar way. I haven't yet found a good substitute.....sometimes I use coming to LBT, sometimes other things. But none give me that instant gratification feeling. Tonight I had dinner with some friends. I had a good bandster dinner and my friends got a dessert to share. I had a few bites. I can honestly say that the ice cream and brownie confection didn't taste good to me. In fact....it was downright unwelcome. I know that it just wasn't worth it so I put the fork down. Where did THAT come from? When have I EVER turned down brownie and ice cream? So like you...I find that the demon still dances inside of me....but the band....it keeps me honest. Congrats on your upcoming bandiversay and on your incredible loss. And on being a person who is self aware enough to realize what matters. You are a guiding light for me....shine on my friend.

Wow....how beautiful are YOU!?!?!?! Wowowowowow!

Fat Blockers and Snake Oil
giveyouthemoon replied to Baron Patrick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Tried Cortislim. It did NOTHING. Tried pretty much every brand of those damn chitosan and fat absorber pills. Lots of money. NOTHING. Really, I've tried almost EVERYTHING out there....NOTHING works. *sigh* And right now I need a fill so not even my damn band is working. *whimper* Sorry....I'm so vain I guess I thought this thread was about me....lol! -
Not only is your face slimmer...overall you just look HAPPIER!!! And that my friend, is PROGRESS! *hugs* on your amazing success so far!

Whenever I get something "kind of" stuck...meaning not totally stuck but I can sort of feel something there that isn't full going down...THEN I always get hiccups, like my esophagus is trying to clear out the stuff. Damn, it hurts too. I've always been pretty prone to hiccups and with the band I get them way more. I get them just sitting there at work. So nah, I don't think they are related to slippage.

Happy Happy Birthday!!!!

150 lbs is my total goal as well. I'm only down 50 (ha! "only" she says) but I just wanted to reassure you that 150 lbs is quite do-able with the band.

Ok...for some reason...that creeped me out. Must be Halloween in the air, no? Or that I'm just a freaky freak.
