Fun Thread - Hot Boss Contest

Me neither girl! I simply adore that stuff! It's part of my daily routine, I hatw when I accidentally forget to put it on in the morning....... And you are right....as much as anything, it makes *me* feel good. And to quote something I read, a beautiful actor said "If a woman thinks she is sexy, then she is" So if I feel good then I am one Sex-ah beast!!! LOL!!!

My doctor is a crackhead? Please confirm...

Bensmum.....geez, I keep missing your posts!! Yes, I can confirm your dr is a crackhead. I also got the same lecture from Dr C. Hell, I just went to him for a bit of an unfill and GOT A LECTURE about how I'd only lost six pounds in the previous month. I mean....I'm pretty HAPPY about a six pound loss in a month!! Sheesh! I TOTALLY don't do 800 calories a day, I do around 1200. I went to see the nutritionist they have on staff there at LapSF and when she told me that 800 was the cap on food, I was like "don't you think it's a lot to ask a 300 lb woman to live on that?" And she just smirked at me. You know what, YOU have to decide what works for you. Eat the right foods, don't overstuff your pouch and EFF those dum doctors at LapSF!!!! They are great surgeons but their bedside manner suuuuuuuuuucks.

What do you do if you slime or get stuck?

If you start to feel that "pinch"....put down the fork. Stop eating. And DO NOT drink water. That just makes it worse. Sit up straight and see if that helps. Sometimes walking around helps me. Heck I've even jumped up and down to get it to move.

    Eating out?

I find that eating out can be tough because I get caught up in talking with my friends and forget to eat slowly. Who cares if the person you are with eats fast? Their problem. Honey, you take ALL the time you need! (by the way, no one knows I'm banded either) To make eating out work, you have to make smart choices in your food. Shoot, I doubt I could make ribs work eating super slowly and being calm. Yeah, that's just something that's not going to go down. Another good trick is to order hot tea before your food so that the warmth will open you up a little and make it easier when the food gets there. Choices I've had success with are lettuce wraps, Soup and asian bowls (I don't eat the rice). Look at the appetizer menu, the best banster choices are usually there. It's ALL about planning ahead. If you know where you are going, check to see if their menu is posted on the web and make your food choices before you get there.

Does the band work? YOU ANSWER!

Lisa - girl...what's going on in that pretty head of yours? While I *always* support someone going down a road to being healthy, I'm sorta thinking there is more going on up there and focusing on losing weight is just easier to think about right now. I dunno, I guess I just get the "vibe" that there is more you are working on. Trust me...been there, done that. As my therp says.....when the world feels out of control, food is the one thing you can control...to the point of obsession for me sometimes. Hope I don't offend....I just felt that in my heart and had to say it. Now....as for your recent picture. MY GOD girl you look radiant!! And your hubby too. I'm always bowled over by what a beautiful couple the two of you make. (wait....you just changed the photo!!! oops! I loved the one where you were in the mint green top...bring it back!!!) Bear in mind....you are beautiful because you have a radiant light that shines from within. You are like a lighthouse beaming out for all the world to see. Who gives a f%$%#k what the scale says. You are perfect right here, right now. You don't need to add anything or take anything away to be absolutely perfect. Get on with your bad self!! And just today I was reading in a magazine an interview with some very handsome star (can't recall). Asked about what makes a woman sexy he said "If a woman thinks she's sexy then she is". I'm going to paste that on my bathroom mirror...... Love you girl.....I just feel like I need to hug ya!!!!

    name bands

Okay...so first, you have to decide if your band "feels" like a boy or a girl. That is step one in the naming process. Once you have that...then you have to visualize what you think your band "looks" like.....Like what kind of person or animal or whatever it means to you. From there you pick the name. So for me...I knew mine was a girl. One day Jack posted on here about his "little silicon fist" and that image really fit my thoughts perfectly. So I imagined my band as a little petulant ballerina. A little skinny ballet girl who had her tiny fist around my tummy. From there I knew I needed a Russian name. And boom, Katrinka was born. On the days I love her, I affectionately call her "Trink". On the days she's being extraordinarily petulant, full name only. Trink and I are having a good couple days right now..... And there you have it, the process to naming your band. Good luck and let us know when "a band is born"!!

    Breakfeast

Ya seriously *have* to get some Protein first thing in the morning. It really sets you up for success for the whole day. So for brekky I usually have either eggs or some cottage cheese. It stays with me really well until lunchtime.

Can only eat after 5:00 pm??

Well you could do serious damage to your band and your esophagus. PB'ing is VERY hard on the band and a main cause for slips. Plus, you get to a point where you PB so much that your esophagus is so swollen that you can't eat ANYTHING. Let me reiterate my surgeon's philosophy on fills...given to me JUST this week when I got my unfill..... Paraphrased....being too tight causes bad behavior (like eating mushies to get around the band which aren't the best food choice). He said "I'd rather you be a skosh too loose and able to eat too much of the right foods (like chicken or turkey which I couldn't eat at ALL) than too tight eating the wrong foods." Being too tight is a dangerous place to be. I thought being too tight would almost be good....that I wouldn't eat and it would make me lose faster. Just the opposite happened. I lost LESS because I was eating poorly (Soups and whatnot) to get around the band.

Can only eat after 5:00 pm??

No it's not normal. You are overfilled. I JUST went through this same thing. It only got worse over the span of a month. Get an unfill. It was SUCH a relief to get that unfill. Run don't walk to your doctor.
  16. giveyouthemoon

To PUKE or not to PUKE.......

Actually, for me, the decision has not really been my choice. I usually do everything I can NOT to vomit, but often the saliva backs up too much and suddenly I *know* and all I do is bend over the toilet and whoop, up it comes.
  17. giveyouthemoon

    To fill or unfill?

If you can only get down soft foods or liquids you are WAY too tight. I had this conversation with my Dr. today and he said that being too tight drives bad behavior. He would rather we be a little too loose but able to eat healthy food like hard Proteins, just a skosh too much, than too tight as it makes you eat poorly. Honey, time to face facts. You are way too tight and you are potentially doing damage to your band by being too tight.

My band and the first date

Okay...so this evening I had a sorta kinda date...... Quick background...I was with the same guy for seven years and we parted ways two years ago. So it's been ~9 years since I had to "think" about dating. I'm a little...shall we say....rusty. Needless to say, I was INCREDIBLY nervous. I also had a sh*tty day at work...I mean a REALLY stressed out sh*tty day. So I was a bit spun up by the time the evening rolled around. So......since we were meeting for drinks, I wanted to be sure I ate something because since being banded, it takes only a little drink to make me VERY drunk. But having food in the belly helps. I had a Protein bar around 4 but we met at 6. So I was hungry again. So we got some chicken wings. I have had good luck with the wings at this very place. I mean, fine in the past. Perfect bandster food. Not tonight. Yes, you guessed it. Katrinka (my band) began to act up. I got STUCK. : cry : So I was able to nonchalantly go to the restroom and had a quick PB. So I went back to the table. I thought I was "all clear" so I tried a bit more chicken. By this time he's noticing that I wanted food but am not eating...or drinking. I eat a bit more chicken. And I get STUCK. Big stuck. Not sorta. Not a little. Big stuck. Katy bar the door stuck. STUUUUUCK. So I'm sitting there in SO much pain...trying to just get through but it's getting worse and worse.....I'm trying to listen to what he's saying while NOT barfing at the table. I'm fidgeting. There is no comfortable way to sit. I am in AGONY. That little bit o' chicken is now a GOLF BALL. Ow. He finally asks "are you okay?" I had to admit I wasn't. I said "I'm having terrible reflux" and he said he understood. I got up and ran to the bathroom again. PB'd BAAAAAAD. Oy. Eyes watering, the whole nine yards. So I get back to the table, sheepish and just said something like "oh I had to go burp" or something like that. He laughed and I felt MUCH better at least about the stuck but felt like SUCH an idiot about the whole sequence of events. I seemed to do okay recovering from that. But ay god!! I have these big plans in my head for being *cool* and all cavalier. Uh..no. First date out of the chute and I'm in the bathroom barfing up chicken wings. :sob: And of course I like the guy....so OF COURSE Katrinka gets wacky. First impressions are everything right? His first impression is me doing a five yard dash to the bathroom.......why me god? WHY? : cry : Anyhow, at the end of the night he did suggest we "do this again" so maybe that is a good sign. Maybe I'm not out of the running. Or maybe he was just being nice. If we do go out again I'm TOTALLY eating before hand.....I just can't do that again. Great. Just great. I want to be pretty, alluring, mysterious, desirable. What I am is pukey.....eye watery.....chicken in the esophagus. Great. Just dandy. Ya'll say something nice to help me feel better. I'm beating myself up pretty good.......

My band and the first date

Thanks banded_for_life. Believe me, laughing at, with, near, around me is ALWAYS appropriate!!!! If I can't laugh at myself I'd be DOOMED. Good news: He's contacted me today via iChat. I guess I didn't TOTALLY scare him off!!! Yay me! Barfing on the first date! Wheee!

    Unfill

Well I'm in a bad mood. I had to go have a bit of an unfill today. Had a bad "incident" last night (details here http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=12410) and I've been having SUCH trouble with PB'ing. So get this..I go to my doc who weighs me. I've lost 6 lbs in the past month. He tells me "I'm not happy with your progress. You were losing 10lbs a month before and now it's only six.....what are you doing wrong?" And kind of chastised me. I had TOLD HIM that being too tight was driving bad behavior and I guess he had to hand slap me! I was pretty mad. I mean....I'm pretty happy with a six pound weight loss in a month....grrrrrrr. Aaaaanyhow, the real reason why I'm posting here is that as we talked, he told me his philosophy on fills: "I'd rather have you be a bit loose and able to eat a little bit too much of healthy foods than be too tight and eat bad (read: mushy) foods". This came when I said I was unable to eat chicken. He says being a skosh loose but better able to eat "dense" foods was optimal. Just putting it out there for those looking for how to approach fills.
