not your usual protein shake question
rubyred138 replied to jtickle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am using the Syntrax nectar brand of powder Protein and the premade Protein drinks made by CytoSport, I get them both at the Vitamin shoppe. I also drink the premade pure Protein shakes from Wal-mart. Also the Protein Powder from True Nutrition on their website. -
Eating out?
rubyred138 replied to Christopher Lazuka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went out to eat starting my 3rd week. I ordered shrimp cocktails from the appetizer section or a fish taco a la carte. I would just eat the fish and leave the tortilla & veggies. I am a month and a half out and I went out for sushi, I ate about 5 pieces of fish and left the rice, half of vegetable & shrimp tempura and half a california roll made with light rice. Another place I went to I ordered chicken & shrimp, I gave my husband my salad. I just ate a couple bites of the chicken & shrimp took the rest along with my veggies home and ate them later on. I figure I will just be taking the majority of my food home to eat at another time. Lots of places will let you order an item a la carte if you just ask. -
How long until you went back to work?
rubyred138 replied to Sreeves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was off for 4 weeks but my surgeon originally only wanted to give me two weeks off. I have heard of some people going back to work after a week and I also know of some people who had 6-8 weeks off. Honestly it just depends on your body. Some people are in a lot of pain and on their meds, I didn't take any meds since the day of my surgery. I really wanted 6 weeks off because at 4 weeks I was still extremely dizzy, nauseous, and tired. When I went back to work on week 5 it was hard but not impossible. The hardest part was getting up early in the morning and not taking a nap during the day. -
drinking after surgery
rubyred138 replied to soniaJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me it was ok 3 months after surgery but I am not there yet. I will probably have a drink every now and then. I was not a big drinker before surgery but my husband and I do homebrewing so I do enjoy being able to drink the beer/ cider we make. -
RNY - how are you feeling?
rubyred138 replied to Angel❤️'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my laproscopic RNY on 7/1/14, went back to work on 7/28/14 feeling tired, dizzy, and nauseous a lot. I am feeling much better now, only nauseous maybe once a week and hardly any dizziness. No pain meds since the day of surgery. I am not back up to my regular level of energy yet but I see a lot of improvement since a few weeks ago. How are you doing now that you're a month out? -
Coffee coffee everywhere but not a drop to drink
rubyred138 replied to ke-sa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just put instant decaf coffee crystals in my protein drink and drink it like iced coffee. I also drink decaffeinated herbal tea during the day too since I get cold all the time it helps warm me up. -

Extreme fatigue and low energy
rubyred138 replied to Sherbear911's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a about over a month & a half out and I am still super tired in the morning when I get up to get ready for work. It feels like I don't really wake up until 10am. I wasn't able to do much exercise until week 5. Before that even just a mile walk made me exhausted. -
SF popsicles was all the sugary stuff i was able to handle. even some protein drinks upset my stomach because they were too sweet.
-
yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans, and eggs was pretty much all i ate. besides my protein shakes and SF popsicles

vitamin questions
rubyred138 replied to sredman1197's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was advised against the carbonate because it can give you kidney stones. I picked up the citrate chewables made by twinlabs at the vitamin shoppe. 20 days worth for just $15 (i was told to take 6 per day). they taste like sour patch kids. -
What is your favorite form of exercise?
rubyred138 replied to Marathongirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite is walking. I have been doing 3.5-5 miles per day. I am trying to get back up to my old time of 5 miles in an hour and 15 minutes. That and riding my bike but I have a busted tube so I haven't been doing that lately. No running for me because I have some problems with the tendons in my ankle. I get to swim once in a while at my in laws house but I end up being negative calories for the day and realllllly tired. I also got the hip hop abs dvds and have done those a few times for cardio. -
I was on liquids for 2 weeks and then soft foods for 2 weeks. My surgeon considered yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, and fish soft foods.

10 mcg per tablet
-
I just looked on mine it's got 18mg of iron in each one, I'm taking two per day
-
You might want to try a chewable vitamin that is made for adults like chewable centrum. I'm surprised you were told to take those because the levels are for children and you already have trouble absorbing minerals as is. My surgeon specifically said to stay away from anything marketed for children.

Wow that is great! I am only down 13 lbs but the surgeon said that's good for the first month. I feel like I should have lost more by now though
