    March 27th 2014 band

I found that my weight loss slowed down once we went to solids. I was banded on 3/27 and had my 3rd fill last week. I'm averaging about 3 lbs every 2 weeks and am down a total of 25 lbs (I gained 5 back after I switched from mushies to solids). I wish it was coming off faster, but this is not a sprint, it's a marathon. When I find myself getting hungry (my doctor says every 4 hours is when we should be hungry) I grab something quick that has a good amount of Protein like nuts or even a hard boiled egg. I'm doing a heavy protein "diet" to help keep myself sustained longer. Is your diet consisting of heavy Proteins and things that help fill you and hold that feeling longer periods of time?
  2. I ate without it being liquid & food got stuck. Holy only it hurt. My question is, did anyone experience pain hours after when eating something else?
  3. So I read that people know when they're full if they burp, or if they have the hiccups or if their noses run...my question is, how do you discover what your mark is? I've not had my first fill yet, but am on solids & just am so afraid of overeating & going back into my old habits. That being said, a lot of times I'll have a 3 oz portion of food & still have a growling tummy. How do you find your mark?

Didn't plan this day too well

I go back to solids this week also & have the same fears you do. I so desperately wish I had fluids in my band & that the restrictions were there so I can't fail. Keep pushing forward. Tomorrow when you're back on your normal routine you'll feel better. We all have those down days & the way to look at it~ at least you worked out! Even if it wasn't your usual routine you attempted it. Kudos & keep pushing forward

    eggs?

I'm still in the pureed stage but have an egg question. Every diet I've ever been on has taught to only eat egg whites- but I haven't been told that with this new lifestyle. Does anyone have insight?

    eggs?

Thank you all! Keeping the yellow as a source of protein makes complete sense. I do not have choleterol problems so I'll stick to this. Have a great day!

    Should i tell my bf?

My husband was not a fan of the band at all. We fought about it, but after 3 kiddies & some health problems I knew I had to do it. This is not something you want to do without support. I'd have an honest conversation, he's going to find out anyway.

    Getting prepared...

I'm noticing that e everyone has different protocol. I'm allowed to do anything that is liquid, Greek yougurt, soups (not chunks in them but the broth), sugar/ff pudding, etc. Stock up on what you'll like & be open to new things. Black bean soup has gotten me through some very hungry days the last month.

    Hunger...

I've found that French onion Is delish! I get to start puree on Wednesday, can't wait!
  10. I've been doing so good. The 10 days pre-op liquids & the last 7 days post op I've managed the hunger well & dealt. Today all I want to do is eat a piece of fish or bowl of pasta. I feel dizzy & irritable. I don't want to break the diet but this is crazy. I had black bean soup for dinner cause it's thick & usually knocks out hunger. Any advise?

    Advice please

I am 9 days post-op and on day 5/6 I got seriously depressed because I was so hungry. I actually told my husband to get me a cheeseburger because I felt like if I didnt consume something with thick substance I was going to flip my lid. (He didnt). I've gotten creative with the Soups and have discovered that I like black bean Soup and you can blend up chili so it's totally liquid - they're both thicker so it helps you feel full over some of the basic broths. I've also kept myself going to the gym every day so that I can keep on track. It's not easy, but this is just a season - for me I know that if I cant be disciplined enough to last 24 days on liquids, then there is no way that I'm going to succeed on this journey. When my tummy rumbles I just grab a popsicle, some Jello or another big glass of crystal light. You can do it, keep pushing through - and know you're not alone!!!

    Checking my weight

I've only been banded for a week but I have made a habit since before surgery go weigh itself every morning. For me, it's a way to start the day as a reminder that the food choices I make have an impact. It helps me set the tone for my day not only with food choices but activity.

    March 27th 2014 band

Banded 3/25 - I got depressed yesterday when we went to a party & there was all my favorite foods that I couldn't have. I'm really hungry but sticking to the diet. Can't wait to have the first fill so I can feel like I'm full! I've been diligent about going to the gym, which has helped with the shoulder gas pain.
  15. Had my band put in yesterday. They only let me have ice chips - they left it empty & Ill have my first fill in 6 weeks. Did anyone else find it was painful when they drank for the first time?

    Pain when drinking?

I'm on liquids for another 10 days then move to puréed foods. My doc called to check on me this morning & said it's normal, especially where the gas pains are in my chest. I'm just taking small sips.

    Pain when drinking?

It goes down, it just hurts. I didn't want to do. Straw cause it's against the rules. Ill just stick to Popsicles! Good call.
  18. I was so anxious beforehand but it happens so quickly! You can do it!
  19. Thank you! Ill have my husband do the chops & Ill get over to the gym!
  20. I know people posted it somewhere else - how do you deal with gas pains? I'm considering going to the gym to help with it but don't want to push 24 hrs post op?
  21. I'm currently in my room at the hospital and was banded a few hours ago! I can't believe it's done! I'm sore & experiencing the shoulder gas pain but I'm getting up soon to walk around & start letting things break up (hopefully). Woohoo

    WLS?

I started off at 232 but I'm 5'4 & have had gestational diabetes 3x with insulin & have pcos. Anyone I've told that I'm having it done (being banded tomorrow) has said "you're not that big". It's not about how big you are but your health. I'm petrified of having type 2 diabetes & know it's a real possibility. If loosing 60-75 lbs removes that risk or even eliminates it, it's worth it to me. That and I love being active but hate how my hips & knees feel adter. The decision is a personal one. You have to have exhausted other forms & if this is right, go for it.
  23. I feel the same way. The best thing I've found is Popsicles, Greek yogurt & oatmeal to help with the craving to chew & to fell full. My surgeon said that soup broths are good too so I've done the fat free tomato soups or broth drained soups. Keep it going, you've got this.
  24. I've found when I need to chew that Popsicles help curve the craving for solids. Hope that it helps you too!!!
