I was born in March of 1962, weighing in at 7lbs, 11oz. By High School graduation I was about 135lbs and 5'11. Until 1985, the most I ever weighed was 155 lbs.

Then the accident happened. In September of 1985, I had a near-fatal auto accident in which, among other things, surgeons had to re-build my left hip using 26 screws and 3 plates.

That began my sedentary lifestyle with disasterous, unhealthy results. My already poor eating habits didn't help. By 1987 I was at 180. In 1990 I crossed the 200 pound line. The turn of the new century saw me at 250 and in the fourteen years since, I've jumped to 300 and then some.

For 25 years I've tried to diet and I'd lose 20 lbs here, 40 lbs there, trying everything from Atkins and South Beach to Weight Watchers and starvation diets. Nothing was working and now I'm on five different medications, three of which to handle my high blood pressure and I'm borderline diabetic (Type 2). Living like this will shorten my life up to 30 years!

So after much sole searching, much conversation and much research, I've decided that I've got to do something a bit radical to give me the jump start I need to get this weight off. In early December of 2013 I made the decision to have Gastric Bypass surgery. I've worked up diet, nutritional, activity and exercise plans which I've already begun to impliment, slowly making my way to the surgery date sometime in May of 2014.

After that point, it's really up to me. I get out of this what I put into it. I know if I get my motivation back, my discipline will follow. It's a matter of mind over body.
