Good point. We also need to remember we are our most important healthcare advocate. Ask questions. Keep asking questions. If it doesn't make sense ask to explain it again. Ask your surgeon, ask you nut, ask the psych or group leader, ask the receptionist. If you don't ask you may not be given the answer. I have email addresses and phone #'s to call anyone one on my team at any time with any question. No question is too dumb.

Also were you told to revert back to stage 2 diet and progress back to stage 5 over the following few days after a fill? Just a reminder as it allows the stomach to settle after the irritation of added constriction.

I was served divorce papers the day after I got home from lap-band surgery. To be fair we had been separated for 2 years and his decision to divorce me had nothing to do with the surgery. I'm not even sure if he knows I had surgery. I must say that my reasons for getting surgery were indirectly related to my ex. Since I having only myself to care for I finally took the time to focus on my needs. I got a WAAAAAY better job than I had, with excellent benefits and I thought, 'check it out and see if it's for you' and here I am today. Happier healthier and stronger and now enjoying life better than ever before.

Had my first fill
sleepingarby replied to SpartanPrincess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my first fill today! Only 1cc. My doc plays it conservative, which is okay. I'm hoping I can see better results from this fill. -
Everything's a slider, if you drink while you eat.
sleepingarby replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just last night went out to dinner with a friend and the first thing I did was order a drink. 2 sips into it and the meal arrives and I think "duh". I wasted a perfectly good white bordeaux. It's a learning process for all of us. -
March Challenge-Lucky to be Losing!
sleepingarby replied to lisaholland73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
March 1st: 194 March 14th:193 Hey it's moving in the right direction. Got my 1st fill today, hoping to make up for some lost time. Thanks for the positive feedback on the blood pressure post. One week w/o meds and my bp is holding steady. Yay! -
As a Certified Wine Specialist, remember wine tasting includes spitting out the wine. Social drinking includes swallowing the wine. It's actually my job to do wine tastings, some tasting events I've gone to include up to 40-60 wines in the course of 3 hours. If I didn't spit it out, I be pretty hammered by the second round. So having spoken to my surgeon on this very subject, he recommended to continue to spit them out and don't eat while drinking. The only way to comply really is to spit out the wine. Even if it seems like kind of a waste. You could also limit your choices to 3 or 4 samples and wash it down with Water. I actually have my next training class on Tuesday so we shall see if there are any affects I can warn about.

Ablond, hasn't your nutritionist told you to stop the shakes? They slide down too easy and never give the full feeling. Remember no drinking when eating. You have to keep that food above the band long enough to trigger that full feeling. Rethink what your protein choices are to get to that place. I have been making that mistake myself. I am 5 weeks out with only a loss of 12 lbs. I was so mad at my failure to lose. But I've had to rethink and be patient. My first fill will likely be at my next visit ( Friday). We will see if it helps.

Cheating the Band

I'd contact my nutritionist right away. She/he can help you get back on track. -
Depressed, discouraged. No Weight Loss, Hungry, Help!
sleepingarby replied to Tonia Duty Keo Bailey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good point Cheryl, no one has mentioned the very critical visit to the nutritionist. First mistake I made was to break the 'no drinking when eating' rule. If you drink fluids when you eat you make the food slide down faster and then your "I'm full" feeling doesn't happen when it should. Also protein protein protein! Always prioritize your protein to make sure you are getting enough. I am 5 weeks out and haven't lost a lb in 4 weeks, I even gained 2 during PMS. My support group meeting held by the nut reminded me of the basics I had already forgotten. I came home feeling better about this LONG TERM journey on the back of a SLOW TURTLE. Lots of love -

The only change is from my Dr. visit. I have been taken off all blood pressure medications. No weight loss to report. -
First Visit with My PCP
sleepingarby replied to Leepers's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
How totally weird!!!!! I had my annual physical with my PCP today too! Excited to report she took me off ALL my blood pressure medication and wants me to monitor it to see if it stays good. Had blood work done to check thyroid med to see if that could be adjusted but as of today that's my only prescription med I'm on. YAY. Goal achieved! -
Did tubing every give you discomfort or infection?
sleepingarby replied to ccjll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it doesn't go away soon I'd call the doc to see what he/she says about it. May be normal or maybe a clue to a minor problem but best not to let it get worse. Take care. -
Best thread ever! Thanks for the laughs everyone!

Did tubing every give you discomfort or infection?
sleepingarby replied to ccjll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure how far post op you are but I had that pulling feeling for about 3 weeks after surgery. It felt like maybe the muscles were healing around my port. It has faded. I can now even sleep on my stomach again. -
Does it hurt when ....
sleepingarby replied to sleepingarby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone for your input -
I need to get my first adjustment and I'm uncomfortable with needles, does it hurt? What should I expect? Any residual pain? Also typically how much is put into a first adjust if anyone knows?

I can soooooo appreciate this thread. I am actually going through the EXACT same issue. Plus more prone to the weepys. I'm guessing that the weight loss has caused an added release of Estrogen into my system making everything haywire including the 3# weight gain. Which makes me pissy them weepy. I do hope next month will be better. Until then I cheated and had a 3 oz dark chocolate bar that took forever to eat. I guess that's the good news. LOL

Cheating the Band
sleepingarby replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pretty, it takes a lot of courage to put that out there. While you CAN cheat you will CHOOSE not to. We are all here to support your wise decision. Never forget that when the temptation to cheat arises. Better still make yourself post something to get that support. YOU WILL SUCCEED! -
Does it hurt when ....
sleepingarby replied to sleepingarby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cheryl, I think Lumpy was commenting on Enjoy's weight loss not mine. I do believe I have met all the criteria that you mentioned for needing a fill. So does anyone know how much is put in the first fill? Is it a standard amount or is based on the person???? -
This can't be true...
sleepingarby replied to cutlass6521's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
O man am I ever experiencing this! All I can see is plateau for miles around me!! So I try to add calories (healthy ones, changing daily intake from 900 to 1500) to boost me metabolism, and sure enough gain 4 lbs. in a week However I decided today March 1st, to shut it down. Meaning go back to basics- stage 3 diet for a week so see if I can trick my metabolism into losing again. Plus I added more strength training to my exercise routine to keep my muscles metabolically active. It's worked in the past-by that I mean pre surgery, here's hoping it works again. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, we can keep the faith together. -

Has anyone heard of the "3 week stall"? I am 3 weeks out and have stalled on my weight loss. I mentioned this on a Myfitnesspal forum and someone said that a 3 week stall is common. She also said I should be able to find lots of info online about it. I've come up with zilch. So I'm asking fellow bandsters what's the word???

Scheduled 2/27. Need help!
sleepingarby replied to EmilyMikulec's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Once I was resolved, I made a post on FB of all places. I knew it would draw negativity. I knew what I had decided and why was for my benefit so I said it and braced for impact. Oddly only a couple people said anything that MIGHT be considered negative. Most people just asked questions. Now nearly 4 weeks out 3 friend have approached and asked more detail questions on what it takes to get the procedure. Not what I was expecting at all! My perspective, stand tall, be proud about your choice and people will see only your strength and those that don't can stick it in the suck it bucket! You are a warrior princess. Don't forget it girl.
