Does yogurt count on your full liquids? yes, it says 2 TBSP, lowfat, plain or smooth. No seeds from added fruit. so vanilla or plain. It went down great. I tolerated 4 tbsp today , as a meal.

    when to start vitamins?

My surgeon was very clear, no Vitamins until my 2 week post op. He said just to focus on phase I and phase II , which is basically the Protein shakes and now, lowfat yogurt, sugar free pudding, cream of rice (2Tbsp) only. ect. I am 4 days post op and doing pretty well. Good luck. I would call your surgeon and ask.

Hi, I would not have that puree' chicken. I am on full liquids and my surgeon said that I was not to progress to pureed until he sees me in 2 weeks. I had to smile about the drain that was weird - no one ever mentioned that before Good luck.

Hi - thanks for sharing - I am having the same issue but trying to focus on is it pain or gas or just healing. I have the same discomfort in my chest. It does pass but it keeps me from sleeping any length of time. I seem to be tolerating the liquids but then I get these waves of pain. Seeing that you are having the same issues, makes me think it's normal. I am taking the pain med too. We just had major surgery and it's only been a few days. Wishing you the best.

Checking in. Surgery was 4/8, today is my first day home. So glad to be home. Surgery went very well. Now I am working on getting the 30 ml of fluid in every 15 minutes. I always wondered " how do you know if you drink to much ?" I can now answer that for those that also wondered - you get a wave of pain - just like a gas pain. It's goes quickly - but it's a warning sign that something was too fast. That is my biggest challenge going forward - slow down. I certainly am not hungry Just trying to do everything exactly right! One more thing I would like to share - I did not touch any of the items that had been listed to bring to the hospital. The day you have surgery - you sleep and you are getting IV fluids. Day 2 I felt better but between the swallow study (they check for leaks) and trying to get 30ml down every hour / walking the hallways every few hours- I slept. Day 3 - fluids every 15 minutes, walking, IV still in - I slept. My surgeon did not allow the gasX strips, or listerine strips. Even picking up a magazine - I would fall asleep. I used the hospital slippers, due to the IV they kept me in johnnies. Just used a hair brush, LIP BALM (saved my life when no fluids are allowed and you are so dry) and face moisturizer. When I did the swallow study - it was scarey because they give you 15 ml or so of a liquid and they have you swallow it all - I actually argued with the technichian because I said I can't swallow all of that - I was told to sip only - he was like - no just swallow it, we have to check for leaks, I said - I am going to get sick and have pain or something bad and he said "I do several of these every day - just swallow it all. I did and it was fine! Just wanted to let you all know.

Clear liquids almost done for the day. Thinking I will go to bed early, since I am hungry and there is only so much liquid a girl can take. Tomorrow is the day. Excited, nervous and ready to go. No more fighting myself. Even with this weight I have lost, I know that without this surgery, as soon as I started to eat it would come back on.........just like it always had. So thankful they found this surgery. Good luck to all!!
  7. Is this normal ? Does anyone else have this issue. Seems to be most bothersome at night. Very uncomfortable. Drinking plenty.
  8. Glad to know I am not alone. Wish we knew what it is.

You go up to where your name is at the top of the page. Click on the wheel/settings. You will see Tickler and it will take you thru setting it up. Hope that helps

THIS is how the first 4 weeks go...

Thank you for the post. I like knowing what could be ahead of me and will probably read this over and over. I have had multiple surgeries, including 2 total knee replacements and that was hell. I am thinking positive and hope that I will have a great recovery but at least with your post, I know what could also be normal. We are all different. We heal different and eat different. We got to this point in our lives for different reasons. It's nice to know what could be ahead. My surgery is Tuesday morning. Can you or anyone tell me what to really buy at the store for the week I am back home? I hate to buy things or quantities that I won't need. I am all set on the Protein shake end.

I really am hungry and having a hard time . Want to cheat but I can't risk anything now. Sick of the shakes - that can't be good and my body is hanging on to the weight! I would at least like to see the scale move more then 1 lb. Just keep thinking 3 more night - I can do it. Any suggest for the hunger ? I am drinking the water. I will confess, I haven't heard my stomach talk to me in over 35 years!!

My date is 4/8 - finally approved thru CIGNA. They denied it at first and my doctor did a peer to peer call and it's been approved. I am drinking the shakes and I am allowed 3 oz of lean meat/fish/chicken but I am starving!! Not losing a thing and I don't understand that. So glad you started this post. Guess I will stay follow you
