I feel I am doing well. Not great but not bad either. I am down 63 pounds and have perfect bloodwork. Started at 265 the middle of May. I can run mile in 13-14 minuted consistently and ran my first 5K in under 45 minutes. Right now I don't have a scale at home and will not dwell on a number, I will gauge my success on how healthy I feel and look. I have no regrets!

I had surgery at Florence hospital back in May. The hospital is like a small county hospital. The hospital has a nice courtyard that is inclosed. It is also 4 blocks from the ocean and 4 blocks to a Walmart. I traveled alone and walked to both places alone. I felt safe in that area. The staff at the hospital were very nice and Dr. Rayne was very nice (he was there in case any medical needs arose) . I was lucky enough to get to stay on the top floor of the hospital instead of going to a motel. Also, there is a light house on the north side of the bull fighting arena next to the border. I enjoyed my stay there.

Week 3: May 27-31st Sleevers
Speeder replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the soft food stage. Feeling really good but today I am having a blaaaaa day. I started walking last week and walking 2 miles a day. Down 11# since surgery but feeling the weight loss. After 36 hours after surgery I have been virtually pain free. I do think I am going to resort to water proof bandages for my drain incision and get in my pool this weekend. I think I need sunshine now. -
I flew into San Diego on Thursday afternoon. Had surgery on Friday. The first few hours after surgery were the toughest for me. Within 5-6 hours I was up walking and started feeling pretty good. My pain level was low and dropped to no pain once the drain came out. I am ready to fly home tomorrow. I just got from walking 3 blocks to a Wal-Mart with no problem.

Good luck and best wishes to everyone having surgery in the next few days. We will all start next week on the loser bench.

I fly out Monday at 3:35 back to Dallas.

For me it comes down to money. My insurance does not cover weight loss surgery and I don't have $15,000. I can get the sleeve in Mexico for $5,000. Surgeons are qualified and facilities are clean.

I am scheduled for May 30th as well. I am from Oklahoma and I teach Special Education. School just got out Friday and I check out this coming Wednesday. Then I will hop on a plane Thursday and get sleeved on Friday. I am excited but not nervous yet.

Drs. Jose Curiel and Mario Camelo with Medical Tourism Co?
Speeder replied to CandyPants81's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am booked through Medical Tourism to have my surgery on the 30th. I was first scheduled with Dr. Curiel at Jerusalem Hospital but recently switched to Dr. Ramos. Mainly because of the facility. It was difficult finding information on both but I did find more on Dr. Curiel. I mainly asked question through my coordinator, Hazel Ramos, to get info. It seems like there are a handful that are very popular and some that are not so popular but just as qualified. I feel confident in my decision and would had been happy with either one. Dr. Ramos will performing my surgery at Florence Hospital and their motel is on the 4th floor of the hospital, since I am traveling alone this appealed to me. -
I have a prepaid cell phone through Net10 and I wonder if I will get any service in San Diego? It shows coverage but we all know that coverage maps still have gaps in service.
-
I also have limited funds and have found two good options. One was through Jerusalem Hospital for $3750 which is a clinic setting and another through Medical Tourism Co. For $4000 which is at the Florence Hospital. I first booked the least expensive (SIL and her friend went there and received great care) but just switched to Florence Hospital to make my husband feel better about me traveling alone. From what I have researched, they are all pretty good in Mexico and and the care is good. I wish I had the money to take a buddy but I can't. Good luck!

Well known vs. unknown Dr.'s in Mexico
Speeder posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
It seems that there are about 4 very popular Dr.'s in Tijuana, Mexico. How many feel more comfortable with a Dr that is very well know/popular vs. a Dr. that does not have a large following? I am having my surgery with a Dr. that is not on the popular list but is very well qualified. On thing my research did show me was that the Dr.'s move around to different hospitals. -

I did a lot of research and spoke with people that has used Jerusalem Hospital in the last 18 months and they all had nothing but positive things to say. I have found good and bad reviews with almost every Dr. And hospital I researched.

I already have my last meal planned. It will be at Eskimo Joe's in Stillwater, OK when I take my team to the Special Olympic Summer Games. I did stop all caffine Sunday. I figured I needed Spring Break to kick caffine, I could not work with a major thumping in my head. So far I have figured out that food is more mental than necessary.

My SIL and her friend went February 2013 and I started thinking about it after they went. It helps to know someone personally whom has gone to the same facility to get opinions from. I feel like I am obsessed with searching information but I want to know all I can so nothing surprises me. I am so ready to take this step and I think I am going to go on my journey alone. My SIL said she would go with me but I feel guilty asking her to find someone to cover her daycare business just to be with me. I guess it is like taking my life back and being in charge of myself.

I am scheduled to be sleeved by him on May 30th. It took a bit of searching but I feel confident in using him.
