  1. Wow! That was quick. My coordinator told me last week that BCBS should have my file early next week (meaning this week), so I am hoping I hear something by the end of the week. I have two questions. How did you find out you were approved? If you don't mind me asking - was your BMI under 40?

    I got approved

So happy for you! I hope I get to make a similar post next week. Praying...
  4. I, too, have BCBS-Fed. My BMI is 39,1 and I have various health issues. I did my final diet visit yesterday and have met all the other requirements, so they said my file should be submitted to BCBS by early next week. I am so nervous!
  5. I had my final diet visit today and have submitted all documentation to surgeon's office. I'm assuming they will submit my file to insurance company tomorrow. Please join me in praying that Blue Cross Blue Shield -Fed approves me!

  8. Starting my journey... I am at the beginning of the journey known as weight loss surgery...doing the research, navigating the insurance maze and preparing myself mentally for the changes that are ahead. I've decided to have WLS because I've tried Weight Watchers, Advocare, Plexus and too many others to name and while I may have had an initial weight loss, I always gained it back - plus some additional. I'm turning 50 this year and I'm tired of my knees and ankles killing me and I'm facing a few other health issues. They are not too serious right now, but I don't do something now, they will worsen. Would love to hear from you about the pre and post-op diet and how you manged it as well as how others react to learning that you had WLS. Thanks.
  9. I met with the NUT yesterday and she told me that I would not be required to do a pre-op diet. I would have to do Clear liquids the day prior to surgery, but no two week pre-op diet.
  10. I am in the process of getting all my appointments, reports and documentation to submit to my insurance for approval. Wondering if you guys could suggest some books that would be helpful to prepare for the surgery and afterwards. Thanks in advance.
  11. I have a question that I'm hoping someone out there can answer. Since my BMI is right under 40, my Surgery Coordinator says that I need to prove a comorbidity, like sleep apnea in order for my insurance to cover WLS. Since my cardiologist had recommended that I have a sleep study done, I did. The sleep technician told me ahead of time that if my sleep apnea was bad, she would wake me at 2am and put the CPAP machine on me. Well, needless to say, mine wasn't bad because they didn't have to wake me and hook me up to CPAP. When I asked her in the morning if I was snoring, she say "Oh Yeah", but when I asked her if I had any apnea, she said she couldn't tell me. She did say if I did it wasn't bad enough to do the split study, but she did say that I was going to have to come back in for a second night and sort of gave me a look like I should know what that meant. Well, I don't. So my question to you guys is, in your experience, since I've been asked to come back in, does that mean I have sleep apnea. (She said test results could take 2 weeks- and I'm curious)

    Approved!

I too have BCBS Federal. What all did you have to submit to them to get approved? I am going through the process. Seeing my doctors and having tests. Just curious what you had to go though. And by the way, Congrats!
  13. I'm going for mine on Friday, so I would love to hear from others too.
