Right after surgery, your throat is very swollen. It makes it very hard to eat and swallow water. As time passes, this does get easier.

Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve
wildGoose replied to jhammer2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted the Sleeve, but Medicare in California doesn't cover it. So I had RNY and I am so glad I did. My a1c is 4.1. I'm doing and feeling so well. -
Pain between shoulder blades after swallowing
wildGoose replied to Wild Woman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could also be from drinking carbonated drinks. The bubbles fill your new stomach faster than flat drinks. I used to get that before surgery. Now I don't. -
you might be able to eat a quarter cup of food. i'd leave out the toast and oatmeal. Concentrate on Protein with maybe a bite of veggie. My nutritionist had me eating scrambled egg with a bit of salsa. That was Breakfast, Chopped up chicken with a bite of soft-cooked broccoli. lunch, etc. Also, really concentrate on getting your liquids. I eat Beans. They are easier on my stomach than eggs or meat. Good luck.

I'm not sure movie popcorn is the best way to go, anyway. I think they mean air-popped popcorn. The amount of oil they use for popping movie popcorn is just amazing. Please be careful.

need advice in regards to vitamins
wildGoose replied to hopeful paki's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
my surgeon says Flintstones are as effective as anything and that I should save my money for new clothes, not designer Vitamins. i haven't read anything bad about more commonplace vitamins like Flintstones, Centrum or 1-a-days. Personally I cannot stand gummy vitamins, they are too hard to chew up. Maybe that is what some people like about them. -
Pre-Op Liquid Diet gained weight? Help
wildGoose replied to babylove8511's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Is Boost what she told you to use? Boost has 240 calories, I don't know the rest of the details. Get Premier Protein - 130 calories, 30 grams protein. -
@@smiley922 Seven years agoI took care of my mom through dealing with lung cancer. It was one of the hardest times in my life - I ate myself up to 320 pounds, the most I ever weighed. Be gentle with yourself Smiley. Try really hard to plan your food and don't get caught without it. Use this group as much as you need to. Hang in there.

I WAS SO DUMB Tonight I went to dinner with a friend. We went to a vegetarian restaurant. Before I left, I studied the whole menu and made some decisions. Then, when we go there I forgot everything and ordered a salad. Lots of raw veggies. I got really sick, had to leave early. Ultimately, I threw up on the way home, foamie stuff. Not a good night. My body continues to teach me.

Kindle. Yeah, Oz is out to make a buck, and I choose to not read, or get mad, that stuff. But I think he is right about nuts.

My PA said the exhaustion is a result of the energy your body needs to lose weight.

Eat MORE to lose weight!
wildGoose replied to bellabloom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing I know about this is that every surgeon has her/his own opinion about what to do. Some say use bariatric Vitamins, mine says Flintstones are fine, save the money for new clothes. Some say no carbs, some don't seem to care. At first, I was eating 400 calories a day, my PCP went bonkers. She got on the phone with surgeon's office and they told me to eat 650-700 a day. It was very hard for me to do this, and I stalled for a week. I'm 61 and diabetic, and it might be different for me, but I don't really want to lose 20 lb per month. Its been 5 months since I started the liquid diet, and I'm down 60 lbs. that's 12 pounds a month. This week I lost 3 lbs. This is fine with me. I think the faster I lose, the harder it is on my skin. I'm trying really hard to follow the advice of my health care professionals. I tried to do it my own way for so long. -
Dr Oz says not to eat peanuts as they are very addictive but almonds, or other TREE nuts are good. And please don't buy nut butters with sugar added.

Do I Listen To This Dr. Or That Dr.?
wildGoose replied to blackonynx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi. I'm 61 and 9 weeks out from RNY. My A1C has already dropped from 7.3 to 4.2. I am still taking metformin (500 mg 2x a day) but I expect to be off it soon. Good luck. -
constipation: get some SMOOTH MOVE herbal tea. I use the peppermint. Drink it at night, you'll go the next day. Good luck!

clothes. I agree! I have two pair of jeans that are not too big. The shirt situation is not so bad because I can wear them a bit longer. I am going to sell some of my good clothes (flax, eileen fisher, ralph lauren) on ebay to get some extra money for clothes. But I'm doing a lot of laundry. I won't complain about this. It is a celebration.

Why Did You Choose Your Specific Type of Weight Loss Surgery?
wildGoose replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I voted for "only covers 1 type" but actually, in California, Medicare will cover 2 - RNY or Lapband. I chose RNY because of how restrictive it can be. I wanted "fear of dumping" but it has not happened!! -
water upsets my stomach....help?
wildGoose replied to rachlynn14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I AGREE with ready2b. At first there was some bottled Water I liked. I'm 10 weeks out now and can't stand water. i'm relying on herbal teas, too. The blends with chamomile are my faves. Sleepy time and Tension Tamer are good. I also have Smooth Move/Peppermint which keeps things moving. -
HELP...... 9days post op
wildGoose replied to thickness213's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
21 lbs in 9 days??? That issn enormous amount of weight. I'm guessing that losing that much weight puts a lot of stress on your emotional well being. Please hang in there! Rest! -
Oh Yes. Im very blessed in the support department. I'm glad I survived, too!

I had uterine cancer and a hysterectomy before my RNY. Now I find that people think I still have cancer and they're afraid to ask me about my weight loss!

where did you sleep?
wildGoose replied to MisforMimi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no pain either. I kept waiting for it, but it just didn't happen. Slept in my own bed. -
Not necessarily. I, too, am 7 weeks out, and I am still always learning. I rely on protein shakes and Quest bars to boost my protein intake. I still can eat only ¼ or ⅓ cup of food at a time, so I really need the protein heavy foods.
