    What have I done?

The thing about this is that you are swollen. As you heal from surgery, everything will become easier. I know you have no way of knowing this now, but it really does get easier. Meanwhile, drink as much water as possible and use protein shakes to get your protein. Take care.
  3. I was told that waking up with a gunkie mouth was from burnt calories. So I always sort of Celebrate that feeling and brush my teeth etc right away.

    Very scared.. Right decision?

Here is the thing. I figured out that would have to let go of everything I thought I knew about basically everything. My life has changed in every way. More than I thought possible. Please have the surgery and then wake up, open your eyes and see what happens. I promise, you have no idea what is going to happen. I celebrate this every day. I hope you will too.
  5. I started my process Nov 2013. my surgery was October 2014. I saw my surgeon at the informational talk, an hour for the intake, a few minutes before surgery, and twice after the surgery in the hospital. One of the hospital visits was less than 30 seconds. He is a world class surgeon and his statistics are great. I had no problems. I have read that problems are often directly related to the skill of the surgeon. While I don't have warm fuzzy feelings for my surgeon, I was so glad I chose him. What I am really glad for is that his PA is fabulous!! Find out if that is the person you are going to be seeing most of the time. You want a great surgeon, but you want a better PA. That was what I got. I did not know it was what I needed. Good luck.

    Sleeve or Bypass

There is not really a huge amount of research on the effectiveness of the sleeve on diabetes. RNY is still the gold standard. I was moments away from going on insulin when I had my RNY. I'm still on metformin but my fasting levels have dropped from 150 to about 80. And my dose is much lower. Someone else will have to tell you about the sleeve. Good luck. ????

    pre op diet

My liquid diet was in the hospital. I went home to puréed foods. It worked out really well. after a month I was on to chewing, and I have become very good at chewing. ????
  9. My biggest problem has been that my muscles have a hard time adjusting to the weight loss. I now have a physical therapist. We do lots of stretching and exercises in a very warm pool. It is helping. Stomach remains very sensitive.
  10. The only thing better than making it to 299 is 199. And that will come sooner than you think. You are doing great!
  11. Are you keeping a food diary. I write down everything I eat along with any problems in my fitness pal. It really helps. Then you can go back and look. I haven't had dumping.

    So tired

Your body is quite busy healing and losing weight. I'm almost at six months out and I still need a nap on many days. But I don't do caffeine.

    Left side pain

You might have some food stuck in the exit of your new stomach. Try lying on your left side. Or when you are upright, lift your left arm to let the muscles stretch out.

    Premier Protein- HOT!

I used to worry about the expense of some of this stuff. Ultimately, I find that I eat so little, that anything is affordable. So I decided to concentrate on eating well rather than what I was spending. good luck.
  16. Like many others, my only regret is that I did not have it sooner. But you have to be ready. It isn't really like I got my life BACK. it is more like I've got it for the first time! Since I'm 61, that's saying a lot. I wake up happy every day. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next. It isn't easy. There is so much to learn. This is so much that is new. I am so grateful. I think that's the key. Also, drink your water and go to support group!

    Constipation

I'm five months out. at this point constipation remains my biggest enemy. Colace seems to be consistently good. smooth move tea is good, but not every day. I eat yogurt almost every day, too. The Apple is the best. But it took me a while to be able to eat one with the skin. I have it with PB2 every night. It is a total treat. Good luck.

    Thyroid vs weight stall

Me too. My doc dropped me from 175 to 150. Weight loss seems to have stopped. Also, I'm freezing all the time, so I think it can't be right. So I get retested, and there it is. In the normal range. five months out and I'm stuck. Surgical team says your thyroid shrinks and requires less. Who knew?
  19. I'm 61. My doc sent me home to puréed foods. like you, almost no pain mess. I could not eat that much, but I was hungry for the first few weeks. Lucky for me I could not eat. I'd call the doc. When in doubt.... Good luck.

3 week liquid diet post op

You people are doing great. The trick in the first few weeks is to do the best you can. Drink as much water as possible. For me, and I'm a whopping five months out now, the most amazing thing was that my tastes in food changed a lot. So I would look forward to having something like tuna only to find out I could not stand it. Eventually I started thinking more about sustainability rather than worrying about enjoyment. Sure there are things I miss or want from time to time. But I find ways to appreciate my shrinking body more than a bowl of ice cream or whatever. Sugar free popsies saved me in the beginning, and now I've had two boxes in my freezer for a couple of months. I promise. You'll get used to it one way and it will all change. When I was on puréed, I loved puréed bean soup with a bit of Greek yogurt thrown in. and peppermint tea is still a lifesaver for me. keep going. And when you pick up a 20-pound bag of groceries, think about the fact you used to carry that weight. I'm so grateful.

    Weight loss

It is amazing to me how we want to lose all the weight right now. First, 34 pounds is a lot of weight to lose in 5 weeks. Second, now that I am almost 5 months out, I have lost 81 pounds. Now, I am sort of wishing that I could lose a little bit slower since my skin is starting to be really annoying to me. When I was at my top weight of 320, I didn't look in the mirror because I could not stand it. Now, I am afraid to see myself in the mirror for all the baggy skin all over the place. Today, for the first time, I weighed 200 pounds. I am really happy about this. You are doing great. At this point, you just don't know how much your iife is going to change because of your transformation. Take this journey one step at a time, and enjoy every moment of it. I am so grateful and happy that I had my RNY. Patience is key. Work on drinking fluids and getting your Protein.

    Diet soda

Peppermint gum is my go-to for an unsettled stomach. Also, I drink a lot of herbal tea, chamomile and/or peppermint are great for the tummy as well. Good luck.

    Epic Fail

I think everyone screws up from time to time. My motto is, "let my body be my teacher." My biggest fault is that I sometimes want "one extra bite." I am so grateful that my body will not let me do this without their being a price. I get the worst stomach pains. For the most part, I learn that one extra bite does not work for me any more. Then, sometimes I forget, or am just not paying attention. Then I have to start over again.
  25. I had Gastric Bypass. My insurance only covers GB and Lap Band. I chose GB. For a long time, several years, I resisted GB because it seemed too radical. Now that I've had it, I have ZERO regrets. My biggest suggestion is that you must trust your surgeon. Also, if you are diabetic, GB is the way to go.
