    foamies?

I'm 4 weeks past my RNY. Today I had the first foamies since the hospital. I had a whole mug of sleepy time tea, and that helped settle things down.
  2. Congratulations!!! I have not been in the one's since 1988. I was 35 then. It must be a great feeling.

    Thanksgiving Eats!

In the restaurant, Id have only Protein, being careful to not overeat. I might take something home to try later. I'm just 4 weeks out from RNY. I'll be having 1.5 oz of lamb + a bite of sweet potato.
  4. 1. When the going gets tough, take a moment to be grateful. 2. Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. 3. Chew 30 times. 4. Learn to recognize that you're full. 5. Take advantage of the first six months. That's when you can lose the most weight. Follow the rules.
  5. I never thought the stuff was perfect, but I had to do it to get the Protein. I could find a zillion things to complain about, for sure. But mostly I'm so grateful Ive had the surgery and am down 40 lbs since the liquid diet.
  6. I haven't been hungry at all. There are times when I know I need nutrients, but that's not hunger. Yesterday was 3 weeks. Nobody made any promises to me. I had a few moments of wishing I could eat a pizza, but it passed. I think your head is playing tricks on you. Good luck.

    SLOW LOSER

Before surgery, I lost 25 on a liquid Protein diet. In 3 weeks since surgery, I've lost 10. i'm not complaining about this. I think people are right about slower weight loss being better for skin issues. My PCP says to expect 8-10 pounds a month. That's a lot of weight. I am so grateful. I feel so much better already.

    OCTOBER 2014

this is day 10. i am amazed at how good i feel. i had very little pain. my belly looks like a battlefield after so many lap procedures (hernia, gallbladder, hysterectomy, rnygb)! I came home to blenderized foods after 2 days in hopsital of Clear liquids. My tastebuds are changing. I used to love lentils, and now they taste like garden dirt. I've been having yogurt, Protein drinks, blenderized bean and split pea Soups. i have a lot of Water and SF popsicles. No nausea. I see my PA on Tuesday. Amazing journey. I'm learning so much.

    Medicare....No approval needed?

You are getting away too far ahead of yourself. Surgeons, and their respective hospitals, do not do this surgery unless they believe they are going to get paid. There are requirements. It isn't like going to Macy's and buying a blouse. The surgery has to be at a Bariactric Center for Excellence. (that is a medical qualification system or sorts) You do have to jump through hoops like seeing a psychiatrist, etc., but Medicare isn't as difficult as some. You need a referral from your PCP, you have to meet the BMI and other requirements. I strongly suggest that you get the referral, and speak with a surgeon. They will take care of the approvals, not you. Like I said, they want to get paid. Good Luck.

    Scared of missing comfort foods!

Comfort foods? I see food on television, that in my life I would never eat, and I think about eating them. At the same time, I have developed new comfort foods. This happened while I was on a 6-week liquid diet before surgery when I basically lived on Protein shakes. I was allowed Jello and sugarless popsicles The popsicles are still a favorite. As soon as I am obsessing about some of my old foods, I will know I am in trouble. I am so grateful to have this opportunity to change, I don't want to blow it. I won't be out of the woods until I am out of the woods.

Is it always a long wait

Hi: I live in California, but I have medicare/medicaid. Medicare is the probably the easiest insurance to get. What they will coverage varies from state to state, believe Michigan, after a quick Googal, covers the RNYGB and the Band. While I wanted the SleveGastrectomy because it would be easier, I had the RNYGB last week. So far, I am doing well. It took me a year from the first intro talk to the actual surgery. It is a long hard process, at least it was for me. But just keep going. Do what they tell you, and you will make it to the surgery. Good Luck.

    Core Power Protein Drinks?

I supplement with PREMIER Protein drinks. They are 30g of Protein, but just 4 g carbs. They taste good. costco, Safeway, Walgreens. Amazon, too.
  14. Six days out. I eat three times a day each time about ¼ cup of pureed foods. Beans and split peas. I can put in 2 oz (weight) of chicken or fish. But the meat must be blended along with everything else. Nothing that would not fit in a drinking straw. I have no dumping or anything else. I think this is what I should be doing. I do this for another week, and then I go to see my PA. Then, I go to the next level, Soft foods. This is already starting to sound exciting to me. I tire out more easily than I want. I am working on this part, too.

    October Surgery Date

My surgery is 9 hours away. My last food in my old life has been eaten. It was Jello! I feel a wonderful sort of calm going into this procedure. My life will never be the same. I am so grateful to this group for all the support and help I have been given. My surgical date is 10/28. I know there are numerous people who are in the OR today. I wish us all luck, weight loss and healing. Thanks for everything. If there was one thing about the "last day" I would have liked to know, it would have been that I put more energy into taking broth. I've had very little Protein, and I'm as hungry as can be. Push the broth on your Clear liquids day.
  17. My Surgery is Tuesday (10/28) I have been on the liquid diet for five weeks. My liquid diet is Premier Protein shakes 3x per day. I have cheated by having a piece of white meat chicken three times, extra Premier's a few times when I went to Baseball games. (Going to Games was the hardest part. No Garlic fries) By my pre-op appointment, I had lost 25 pounds. I'm not hungry. I do not think about food ALL the time. I learned a lot about myself. I would have been allowed raw veggies, but they wound up tasting like metal, so I left them behind. You can do the liquid diet. Tomorrow I shift to Clear Liquids. broth, etc. I'll be mixing chicken broth with veggie broth and having lots of Jello. I am actually excited about this. Keep Going. You can do it. I've already read the Grey books. too bad.

    October Surgery Date

I had my pre-op appointment today. I am signed and ready to go. My year-long journey has been complicated, and Tuesday morning (10-28), my life will change in a new way. I am very excited and frightened all at the same time. I have been given so much love and support. I wound up losing 25 pounds on my liquid diet. "They" were so pleased. I am grateful to this group for helping me find the way. Keep hope alive.

    Your choice.

There are so many reasons for choosing the surgery that we chose. Before we even start thinking about diabetes, and our other health issues, etc. there are more basic questions. How much weight do you want to lose? How old are you? After those two questions, consider our current health issues. Some times people are trying to prevent getting obesity related diseases, but there are others of us who already have Diabetes, sleep Apnea, Hypertension (high blood pressure), etc. There is no easy answer, and only one person and her or his surgeon can make a decision.

    Your choice.

In the end, I wound up with the Gastric Bypass. I'm scheduled for 10/28. The reason for the GB was because my insurance, Medicare, will only pay for the GB or the LapBand (California rule). I was certain the band was not for me. Until I found this out, I was wavering between the GB and the Sleeve. I am now glad that I am having the bypass; mostly because of the diabetes question. The bigger question, though, is what BRING IT ON, said - that this surgery is not about what is easier, it is about, for me, which "TOOL" will be the best teacher. I want the situation that is going to help me change the most. I wish you well. Please let us know what you decide and how you are going.

    Pre-Op Baby Steps & NSV

Actually, it is woot woot woot for anyone who is is still on this journey. It is not easy. I read an article in the New York Times about six months ago that said --only half the people who start on this process actually make it to the OR. There are so many hoops to jump through. Show up for all your appointments, be on time, get all the tests, deal with all sorts of problems that might pop up. It takes a lot of courage to approach bariatric surgery. When it gets hard for me, even now that I am about 10 days away from my surgery, I remind myself of how far I have come. So hang in there, everyone!

    Psych appointment help

So many different ways.... My psych evaluation was about 10 minutes. There was no written test. He asked me a few questions about where I was from, my education. It was all very basic. He said the thought I would do fine. And that was that. I had not heard of a written test for this part of the process. Good luck.
