    New 60+ Thread

skinnydippn42, are you determined to have the surgery in Jackson? You have probably told the forum before, but why haven't you considered going elsewhere and not waiting? __________________ Yes, I have condidered going else where. When I first learned about the Lap-band I studied into it to see if I really needed it & wanted it. When I desided this was for me I went to a couple of semiars, got the OK from my MAIN Doc. Got the Pyic part overwith. In the mean time I turned 65 yrs. old and found out that MEDICARE was my MAIN Ins. Co. and FBC/BS was now my secondary carryer. Then had to check in to that aspect of everything. I started out looking into one hospital, than found out there was a closer hospital. Later found out that hospital would not be OK'd by Medicare for well over a year, than started back with the first Hospital. Found out CMMC of Jackson, MS was almost finished with the process of being "OK'd" by Medicare so I stuck with them. They SHOULD be "OK'd" the end of this month (May '08). If I found out that THIS hospital would take a long time being OK'd by Medicare I would have possibly gone with the hospital up in the north part of MS. WOW, I'm out of breath just saying all that. I'm going to the Gastric Surgery support group meeting tonight at 7:00PM. Nice group of people. I alwas learn a lot going there. There you have it. After all that I might have to go take a nap. (LOL) Don

Yes, what a way to celabrate. I was in there over three hours answering over 600 "Yes or NO" questions, than took home another pile of papers with over 300 more question, not all "Yes or No".

Update on the updates: Hi, More new people, very nice. I'm still waiting on the Medicare "Seal of Excelents" for CMMC in Jackson, MS. "Might" be approved this month (May '08). I'm still going to the support group meetings the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00PM. Very helpful people. This up and coming meeting their going to be bring the cloths that they do not need anymore because of their weight lose and have cloths exchanges. That should be interesting. That's it for now, Don

    Where are you MS folks?

No, not yet. I'm waiting for Medicare to approve CMMC to do the surgery. It should be approved any time now. I have to use FBC/BS and Medicare to have it done. I was going to go with Dr. Carrol also but Medicare takes for ever to approve a hospital. "IF" River Park is still trying to get approved by Medicare, it will take well over a year from now. I have been going to the CMMC support group meetings the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00PM. Very nice people. Don

He Baaack, Sorry I have not been on lately, but when your waiting for Medicares "Seal of Excellents" to start not much happens. I'm sill going to the CMMC support group meeting. Learn something new each time. I'm not suppose to say when the "Seal of Excellents" OK will happen because no one knows until it really happens, but lets just say that something major might happen in June, 2008. That's all I know at the moment about that. There is a waiting list of people waiting for the "Seal of Excellents" to take effect, but because I'm a regular at the support group meetings the Head of the Gastric Surgrey area said he would make sure I would be one of the FIRST to be called. That was encouraging. As for the weather here in the Jachson, MS area it has been a little chilly lately, down in the 50's & 60's the last couple days. Today at 3:00PM CDST it's about 77* right now & looks like it might stay that way for a few more days. Several weeks ago we had a little snow and my GrandDaughter came over and made a good looking snowman. That's it for now, I try to post a little more often. Not much of a poster, but I try. Don

Very glad to hear that. If you don't mind me asking; are you self pay or your Ins. picks it up or Ins & Medicare!! I'm asking because I'm waiting for Medicare to give CMMC their "Seal of Excelents". I've been waiting a long time. CMMC say they should recieve the approvel any day now.

Not sure were I stand on the list. The support group meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM. (1900 Hrs.). I think this is why they call us "PATIENTS". Don

Hi DOCOP, If you read back a page or two on this thread you will see what I'm going through & I might have mensioned the price. I'm doing to call CMMC to see when the next seminar is or the support group meeting is and go to it. The cost for the Gastric Banding (Lapband) is about $16,200.00. I'm not sure all that is included but you will find out at the semenar. I have been to two semenars & really learned a lot. I'm waiting for the hospitol to be "OK'd" by Medicare, watch should be any day now. I can't afford self pay myself. My name is Don, maybe I'll see you there. I really like the two Doc's there, they are straight forward and don't beat around the bush in what they tell you. I am going to have it done, but it gets frustraiting waiting for the OK from Medicare. PS: Have you gone to Welcome to LAP-BAND.com . It's a very good site to learn about what's involved, but you learn much more at the seminar. Don
