Approval with Kaiser?!
BisaW0902 replied to Bryn910's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mine was that easy too. I just had to get a referral to the bariatric Dept from my PCP and go through the classes that teach about the surgeries, psyc appointment, nurse appointment, and meet my goal weight. As soon as I did that I got a date. HW: 297 SW: 271.4 Goal 1: 260 Goal 2: ??? Goal 2: ??? -

4/17/18 is my day! Anyone else having surgery in April? How’s your Pre-op diet going?
BisaW0902 replied to abarr7302's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Still at the hospital. I have been nauseous and in so much pain. They kept trying to get me up yesterday but I was in pain and could barely stand up straight so I refused every time. I tried to walk but only made it to the door and then had to turn around. I just got back in bed (at 2:20am) after I got up and walked the halls. Im starting to feel some gas moving, so hopefully it comes on out. I also think it’s too hot in here, I’m getting congested and dried out. -

So, I got my pre-op diet plan. Two days before I have to do stage 2, the full fluid stage where I can have yogurt, protein shakes, and cream of wheat. One day before is nothing but clear liquids, so it won’t be tooooooo bad. -

I may need to go ahead and just start something like that just in case so like everyone else is saying I won’t be in shock with that rapid change. Thanks for the photos! -

Really? I haven’t even been given an idea of what it might be. Glass half full, when I go to pre-op I’ll only have a week until surgery [emoji33] -

My date is 4/18! I haven’t been placed on any pre-op diet ... yet. I go in for my pre-op class on 4/11 -
I have been on this journey since September 2017. I was completing all my classes and visits, but got off track, I think it was self-sabotage from fear, with my weight. My starting weight was 296 and I was down to 284 when I met my surgeon and he set a goal weight of 278. For Kaiser in Northern California you just have to reach the goal weight, psych eval, and attend the classes they have. You can go as fast as you want as long as you make weight. I finally hit 277 and got my psych appointment but weighed in 278.8 the day of and had to wait until I got under 278 to move forward. At that point I changed it up and pushed through and got to 274 and was able to schedule my blood work. Today I did my one on one with the RN and my weight was 271.4! I met with her with my vitamins and food journal and she gave me a surgery date of 4/18/18!!!!! I had to have another appointment with the surgeon and she “forced” me in right after our appointment. I could have gone to surgery sooner but I have to go to a pre-op class that’s only on Wednesday’s so I have to wait until 4/11/18 for that. I’m super excited! Anybody else excited for April surgery dates?

Thanks! It will! I’m all of a sudden super anxious [emoji33][emoji33]

Kaiser South Sacramento Orientation
BisaW0902 replied to SunshineUnicorn's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Oh wow you had the appointment with the surgeon scheduled before the orientation? How was the orientation for you, did it make you have any second thought? I had my appointment before the class was over ... Sept 15 I had mine today and it was interesting. I'm quite a picky eater, but the list they had had plenty of options. -
Hi! Was wondering if there is anyone else who will be attending the orientation at Kaiser South this Monday? I was scheduled for 8/29, but they called me and I nice rep was able to "squeeze" me into the class on 8/7!

I do have questions! From the time you went to your orientation until surgery, how long was it? What were some of the requirements you had to meet? You mentioned weighing in ... what was the reason for those sessions? I know I have many more but my brain is fried right now . I have my orientation on the 29 of August. I think I'll call in the meantime to see if they have any cancellations. -

Hi, nor sure if you have completed the orientation yet, but I just inquired. If you have do you have any advice or input? If you didn't what stopped you? -
I have only been seeing an OB for the last few years. They are using those records to document my BMI for the last 5 years so I don't know if they would let that go for my doctor supervision also. Plus, except for last year I was only going once a year. I do have some weight related lady issues that I'm going to ask about though as well as knee and foot issues.

When you used the PCP records had you been just going every month or how did that work?

What the issuance rep tells you is not always accurate. I UHC called when I started my journey and the rep told me that there was absolutely nothing they covered associated with WLS. Turns out the info for bariatric survey was given through Optum, not just from the UHC reps. I didn't learn this until I talked with a WLS center and they called the insurance company to verify, and sure enough they cover it.

Hi, I'm new to this but I was wondering how other people dealt with UHC. My husbands job requires 6 month dr supervised diet, psych visit (which I had today and it went well) then to go through whatever the surgeon wants. Feb is my second diet month, but the dr told me to make sure I don't miss an appt because the insurance company (Optum) will make you start all over again!
