Sept. 21 will be changing day

My surgery is 9/13 ????! ! I am wondering why some people are on a liquid diet and my doctor had not mentioned it. I see him on 9/7 so maybe he will have me start after that. I did not realize that so many doctors follow different guidelines when it comes to gastric surgery. Good luck to everyone! Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App

    How to start the process

I called my insurance Blue Shield to find out if they covered bariatric surgery and at that time they gave me a list of approved surgeons. I called the surgeon made an appointment and at my first appointment we started the 6 month monitored weight loss program that Blue Shield requires. Make sure you ask about deductibles and copays/out of pocket costs so you can plan accordingly. Good luck to you! Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App

    September 13th surgery!

I agree about being far from home and not feeling well. I definitely would not be traveling internationally after this surgery. My flight is only 4 hours so I think I will be okay. I wanted to cancel because I don't know how it will be with the food restrictions. It looks quite a few of us are on the 13th, how exciting. I look forward to seeing everyone's progress! Good luck to you Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App

    September 13th surgery!

Good luck with your surgery, I am nervous too but I know it will be worth it. Once we start healing and seeing results we will be happy we did it. I guess I am the only one not on a liquid diet, kind of worried why he hasn't mentioned it to me Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App

    September 13th surgery!

Yeah, I thought it was weird that I was not on a liquid diet; I guess all doctors are different. I was never even told I had to lose a certain amount of weight during my 6 month monitored diet. I only lost 8 pounds. Well thank you fpr responding and I wish you luck and much success with surgery! Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App Awesome! Thank you, good luck to you as well. ???? Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App

Average wait time to get sleeve?

I have Blue Shield of California and I had to show 6 months of supervised diet; I just had my endoscopy today. I started the process early January and I was told my surgery will probably be late July or early August
  9. The three month period is suggested, not required. Big difference. the three month period is to allow for preparation and education - things like preop testing, sessions with an RD, that kind of thing. Do you have H M O or P P O? Just be aware, many surgical offices CALL Blue Shield to verify that you have the bariatric benefit and to verify requirements. Unfortunately, many of their Provider Services reps don't both to look up the policy and will say you need to do six months because that's what they're used to. Demand (politely) that the office refer to the policy online directly for policy requirements. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I have a PPO
  10. I was told 6 months at my first visit yesterday but I had already looked up the policy which recommends 3 months from initial visit to surgery date. The dr office said they would look into it to see if it was true. I am hoping it's 3!
