Sleep Apnea Evaluation - Unexpected Requirement
ready2getgoing replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to have a sleep study as well - I was tested three years ago (worst night of my life) and was told I did not have Sleep Apnea but I've put on about 40 lbs since then. I talked to the Sleep Doc and we both agreed that it was best to have the test for the same reasons you were told - for the Anesthesiologist. BTW - I told the Sleep Doc that even if I had Sleep Apnea I probably would not use the CPAP machine. He understood - also said that if I did have it when I loose the weight I would probably not need the CPAP -
I've got an upcoming business trip that will "require" some time to be spent "networking" at the bar in the evenings. I will be about four weeks out from surgery at that point and don't want to drink alcohol. I also don't want to drink Club Soda since I've given up carbonated beverages. These types of trips come up a few times per year - any suggestions? Thanks

How long until first appointment?

I would not worry about ckecking Band vs. Sleeve at this point. When I went in for my first meeting I was thinking Bypass only because my wife has a Band and I've seen the problems she has sometimes had and I didn't like the thought of something being left inside me! I really didn't know much abot the Sleeve. When I met with the surgeon we dicussed all of the types of surgery, which would be best for me based on weight, lifestyle, expectations, medical historys, etc. and settled on the Sleeve. When you checked the little box on the form I am sure you didn't know everything you could about all of the surgery types - I would not expect them to think that you did. -

I got notified that FitBit is recalling the FitBit Force - so I'll be looking for an alternative. Any suggestions? I've not had soda or a carbonated drink in a month now - not missing it. My biggest struggle is adding exercise to my life. -

I would not worry about "pestering" anyone, they are there to help you understand the process and work with you to get through it. I know this is health care but remember you are their customer. In my case I called to make an appointment and met the next week with the surgeon and the program coordinator. I left that first meeting with a timeline leading up to a surgery date and a set of appointments for all of the consultations I would need. -
EGD this friday ..... Im nervous !
ready2getgoing replied to Tammylb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just got back from test - no problems. Didn't feel a thing - last thing I remember was being asked to roll to my left side and then waking up in recovery about 20 minutes later. The actual test was about5 minutes long. -
Pre-op liquid diet and losing weight
ready2getgoing replied to mentalistfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wondered that same thing and was told that the "official" weight is my weight at the last Dietician visit - that will be the weight reported to the insurance company for final approval - so I should not worry about any additional weight loos during the two week pre-op diet. I am not sure if this applies to all insurance companies. -
Concerned about bougie size, what was yours?
ready2getgoing replied to MorganO87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bougie / boughie means "candle" in French. "F or FR/Fr" following a bougie size=French Its just a guide / tube that your surgeon uses to butt the stapler up against, when forming your VSG. The closer s/he gets to the guide the 'tighter' the sleeve is. During surgery the bougie is inserted into your mouth down your throat, towards the end of yer stomach where it meets the pylorus valve. -

question about insurance
ready2getgoing replied to Meghan_44's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if this is usual of all Dr's but as part of my first consult meeting (Feb 6th 2014) I met with the Program Coordinator at my Dr's office, she reviewed my insurance and knew exactly what the requirements would be based on the Insurance Company needs as well as the doctors requirements. She laid out a time line of all of the appointments and consultations I needed as well as scheduling them for me. I needed three Dietician appointments, a Psych consult, a sleep consult, a Physical and a Gasto consult and Endoscopy. I left with all of these appointments scheduled as well as a tentative surgery date of May 27th 2014. I have since found I need to add a few other appointments for Blood work and a hospital intake meeting but these can not be scheduled before the last 4 weeks before my surgery I've been working my way through the process and moving towards my May surgery date, -

June 2014 Sleevers Check In!
ready2getgoing replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My scheduled date is May 27th - not quite in June but close -
Although I've just started on my path towards WLS - in the past two weeks I've had my first consult with the surgeon, my first dietician consult and next week I have both pulmonary and gastro appointments. I am also going to my first support meeting this coming week. Things are progressing quickly and I've got a schedule for surgery at the end of May My greatest fear is that I'll loose the weight after surgery but not be able to maintain - I've failed so many times in the past with diets loosing weight only to regain it (and more!). I've been reading post here about success stories and they help - knowing that others have gone through what I am starting to go through. Did any one else fear failure?

Thanks for your reply's - I am committed to this and not failing again. I don't want to be the same person I am now.
