This question is for those who have had the sleeve and also carried a lot of weight in their lower belly. How long did it take for you to start losing inches in this area??? I'm 6.5 weeks post op and I feel like I am losing from everywhere except there which is where I want to lose the most!!!! If anyone could share their personal experiences with this I would really appreciate it!

I'm doing good, I just went back to work yesterday. I'm on soft proteins now and I haven't had problems with any foods. It's nice to eat some real food now! -

Great job! I know that they usually try to estimate when the insurance approval will come through and use that to choose a surgery date. I would guess your surgery will be either late March or early April depending on when the info was submitted. Once you do have a surgery date you will have one more day of pre op appointments where you meet with anesthesia, nutrition, and the nurse practitioner Martha. She is really great and will explain to you everything to expect on surgery day and the days after. -

It was about 2 weeks for the insurance approval once I finished all of the insurance required appointments... I have BCBS. After that the doctor is scheduling about 5-6weeks out because he's fairly busy. My first consultation was 10/2/13 and surgery was 2/5/14 so it was about 4 months total start to finish, it would have been quicker but the holidays pushed everything back a little for me. You also have to make sure you meet the goal weight they have you before surgery otherwise McCluney won't operate! -

Dr. McCluney did my surgery on 2/5/14 and everything was perfect! I was evening sleeping on my stomach the day after I got home from the hospital! -
What's For Breakfast Today?

Try heating the Atkins Shake... Makes it taste 10x better! Just like a cappuccino! For me I like to have an inside out omelette, egg and cheese rolled in turkey slices! -
Recepies and food ideas for the mushy stage

Puréed chili isn't bad. And people always think I'm crazy but mashed potatoes with cottage cheese is really good! -
I was just curious if anyone had tried any of the high protein bread and if so, how does it taste? I found one with 16g of protein per slice and only 4 carbs so I thought it would be interesting to try once I can eat anything again.

And thanks for the review about the Julian bread!

Thanks for the website! I'm sure it will be very useful when I'm ready for real food!
-
Thanks for the input! The more I read about it the more convinced I am to just stick with the deviled eggs

Other protein options

You can make some homemade chili and purée it if you're still in that stage! -
I started looking for something when I was thinking about all of the egg salad there is going to be at Easter in a couple of months! I'm not a big fan of eating egg salad or even tuna salad just by itself.
-
I found it on julianbakery.com... It's made specifically for high protein low carb diets. It's also organic and sugar free so I thought it sounded pretty interesting!

I ate a solid too early...need ideas to be prepared. Please help...

Try a light cheese stick! Turns to mush when you chew it really well and they are a great source of protein! They weren't on my list until 2 weeks post op though so you might want to wait until the purée stage... -

I don't know if you like cheese but I have found nibbling on a light cheese stick to be a nice way to mix things up! Just chew it really well and it turns to mush... Also a great source of protein! -
I'm 10 days post op and over the last 3 mornings I've lost less than half of a pound total! I lost 17lbs in the first week which was very exciting but now I'm freaking out a little bit the past few days... Has this happened to anyone else?
-
Thank you so much! It's nice to hear from someone with such a similar situation. It makes me feel a lot better!

Thanks for the advice! I know I need to relax a little but I have a tendency to over think things. I know I should only weigh myself once a week but my discharge papers from the hospital say to call my doctor if I gain a pound or more in one day so that's why I'm checking so often. After 2 weeks I will get on a once a week schedule! Then I can only drive myself crazy once a week!

Time off after Sleeve
ash1188 replied to nursejenny07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just over a week post op and my surgeon said 4-6 weeks. I told him I would like to go back much sooner so he said we will see how I am doing after 2 weeks. His reason for the 4-6 weeks is not necessarily because of healing time but because he said I have to take the time to learn how to eat with my new tummy. I only arranged for 2.5 weeks off from work so hopefully that will work well for me.
