I have NEVER been able to do any artificial sweeteners. Always have an after taste and I always would get a headache whenever I would try them. So I was worried that that would hinder me in my journey. So far so good. I would love to be able to use some of the sugar free syrups to mix things up with my shakes a bit but no can do. I am in AZ and right now it is rather chilly in the morning and evenings. I love it. This is my favorite weather time of the year. Oh where was I.....oh yea artificial sweeteners. Well I have been making myself hot decaf tea in the mornings with my unflavored Protein powder and drinking that to warm up a bit and then usually having another smaller cup at night when we are watching TV. Well last night I decided to try Splenda in my tea. My husband always uses that in his coffee and it was the ONLY thing I hadn't tried yet. Well surprise surprise........I was able to drink my tea NO weird aftertaste and NO headache!! WOO HOO!! So this morning I tried it again in my 24oz of hot decaf tea with Protein Powder. Again yummy!!! I am so happy about this, that now I at least have something to use. So I here sit enjoying my hot decaf tea w/protein, checking around on here to see what's up, and then I will be getting ready and heading to the gym. The sun is shining, we are not buried under snow, I feel good, weight is coming off......I think it's a good day!!

OMG......I am so glad you tried this recipe and posted it. When I first saw this recipe and posted it I couldn't wait to try it. I am only 3 weeks post op and everything is going down nicely. I am putting this on my menu for next week. I'm so glad to hear it was yummy!! Sometimes things look better than they actually taste. I love the idea of making mini pizza crusts with it. That way everyone can top theirs with what they like. I can't wait for next week now!!!

My journey started 10/27/14
CheleLynn45 replied to Babygirl_sleeved's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Ericka......I was also sleeved on 10/27 and doing quite well I think. I was so happy with my recovery it isn't funny, I had thought I would be in so much pain and so tired. But I wasn't. Hope things are going well for you. I am still off work and loving it. My doc wrote me out for 4 weeks and I took an additional 4 days. Trying to make sure I get my exercise in everyday. I am hitting my Protein and Water goals no problem. So far my sleeve has liked everything I have thrown at it. WHEW!! Good luck with everything!!! -
Need help with food ideas
CheleLynn45 replied to Account deleted's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is my favorite recipe right now......Ricotta Bake 8oz part skim ricotta 1/2 cup grated parmesan 1 large egg beaten 1 tsp Italian seasoning 1/2 cup marinara or spaghetti sauce 1/2 cup shredded part skim mozzarella Heat oven to 450 Mix ricotta cheese, parm cheese, beaten egg and Italian seasoning together. Place in over proof dish Pour marinara sauce on top and then top with mozz cheese Bake for about 20-25 mins This is so YUMMY!!! I make half a recipe at a time in a little square oven proof dish I have had forever and never used till now. Then I cut in four pieces and enjoy! Reheats wonderfully. I usually add a drop of sauce on top when reheating. With the products I use here are the stats for 1/4 of HALF the recipe so you get an idea: 94 Calories 7 grams of Protein 4 grams of sugar (I still use my six cheese Ragu sauce cause I love it but you can probably find one with less sugar if you want) -
Vitamins and other meds
CheleLynn45 replied to Iowa_summergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my two week post op follow up with my doc yesterday, three days past my two weeks. I bought the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins and have to take them twice a day. They never said I couldn't swallow them whole and that is what I am doing. Now even before surgery I was a very bad pill taker no matter what the size. I have to place the pill way back of my throat and swallow. Most times I gag myself but I cannot stand the pills in my mouth at all and cannot get them down any other way. The Bariatric Advantage is on the bigger size but not huge. I have had no problem the three times I have taken them. Whew!! -
Struggling with my 3 meals
CheleLynn45 replied to Crystal88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Crstal88.......I was sleeved on 10/27/14. I had my 2 week post op appointment yesterday with my surgeon. Everything is going really well. At my two week mark I could start mushy type foods so I did. Everything I have tried so far has gone down well. Thank God! I have always ate three meals a day and usually a snack at night so I did have to cut that out because my surgeons practice says NO SNACKING. I am still off of work so it's a little easier with my meal planning. I am suppose to be doing two shakes a day and one small meal. I was doing two meals and one shake but doc wants me doing two shakes and 1 meal so that is what I will do most days, but some days I am doing two meals and one shake. I was able to get my Protein on the days I was doing 2 shakes and 1 meal by adding unflavored GENEPRO to my drinks. I try to get my Breakfast in pretty soon after I wake up, shakes go down just fine for me in about 20 minutes. then I wait my 30-40 mins and I start with my liquids and try to get at least 24oz in before I have to stop drinking to be able to eat/drink my lunch. Then I wait again and start my liquids to get them in before dinner. And then sometime between 5-7 depending when my husband gets home I do dinner. then more liquids. This really seems to work for me and I think even when I go back to work it will continue to work. The only issue I have right now is if I have an appt or something around lunchtime I have to figure out how to get my lunch in in between. But it really boils down to planning planning planning!! I'm not really hungry at all much during the day so I think that helps me to stick to my plan. I have to really make sure to plan since in my family there is me, my husband and my daughter. My daughter has decided to not eat meat anymore so at dinnertime I am basically making three different dinners. So far it has been working, but again not without planning. When I wasn't watching what I ate it was easy to get lazy and then just eat whatever, this makes us plan ahead. I hope any of this helps. Good luck, I always hate when I read on here that people are struggling with things, you know you just want to reach thru the computer and fix it!!! Good luck and I hope it gets easier for you!! -
I was also diagnosed with psuedotumor cerebri two years ago. The only thing we did to help it was have me lose weight. I was able to lose almost 50lbs and my pressure went down a lot. Unfortunately I was unable to maintain that loss (my life story) so my surgeon said that this surgery would help it tremendously. I am lucky I have never had any of the side effects of the psuedotumor, just showed up after routine eye exam and then was sent to a neurologist who verified what I had. I was told that weight loss is one of the number one ways to treat this.

A little scared this has been pretty easy for me.
CheleLynn45 replied to llmccay1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so glad to read all these posts!! I was sleeved on Oct 27th and my recovery has been, I don't want to say easy, but fairly pleasant. Not at all what I was expecting. I had no pain really, and I am a BIG baby. I had one rough day when a Protein shake I tried didn't sit well with me, but no throwing up or anything. I have been walking walking walking since day one at the hospital. I started mushy foods on this past sunday the 9th and everything I ate has agreed with me and gone down really well. I am logging all my calories, protein and liquids. Been having one shake or Protein Drink a day and still reaching 60-65grams of protein a day. Yesterday for instance I had one egg scrambled with 1 cup shredded cheese cooked with it for Breakfast. I was able to eat the whole thing in about 20 mins. I see so many people on here barely able get three bites down let alone the whole thing?? Today for lunch I had 1.5oz of tuna with 1 tbsp. light mayo and a WW cheesestick. I was again able to finish it all in about 25mins. I am hoping I am doing the right things, I see my doc for the first time post op on Friday. I feel really good, I still can get tired here and there. My incisions are healing nicely. I am down 24lbs in three weeks since pre op diet, 15lbs in two weeks since surgery. I would much rather get my protein from food instead of Protein drinks but am wondering if it is to soon for that or am I okay since my sleeve seems to be ok with it?? Last couple days my calories have been at around 500 for the day, and I was at the gym both days walking 2.5 miles in an hour. I keep telling myself to be grateful that my recovery is going the way it is, but I just want to make sure I am doing everything I can for long term results. -
First day back at the gym!
CheleLynn45 replied to audefacere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's great to hear you guys are back at the gym already. Woo Hoo! I went back too 9 days post op. I have been walking an hour a day (except twice) since my Oct 27th surgery. I find myself being able to go faster and faster every time I go to the gym. This last time I even tried running slowly for a few minutes. LOL I always feel better afterwards!! Gotta make it a lifetime change, might as well get to it!! -
Ate my first egg this morning, think I am doing ok?
CheleLynn45 replied to CheleLynn45's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well the whole day today surprised me! I had a piece of turkey and 2% milk piece of provolone rolled up and dipped the last half in very very little mustard just for flavor. It was pretty yummy, I got the whole thing done but it did fill me up. Tonight for dinner I made 1/2 of a recipe for baked ricotta and had 1/4 of what I made. It was so yummy yummy and went down pretty well and filled me up. I did have a glass of unsweetened ice tea toady with a scoop of unflavored Protein powder too. And then a little later after dinner I just wanted something that was yummy not just ok or tolerable. So I had an 8oz glass of 1% milk with sugar free Hershey's syrup. Got another 9 grams of protein in and it was delicious!!! I felt like I had a really really good day today. Totals were 62grams of protein and 72oz of liquids. My calories were 492 and I did an hour on the treadmill and got 2.53 miles out of it. Just gonna keep taking it one day at a time!!! Tomorrow I will be 2 weeks post op!! -
I have been looking around Pintrest for high Protein recipes for my new life and I came across this recipe for a chicken pizza crust. cheese. Well Enjoy and let us know if you try it!!!

I have a ventral hernia which could not be fixed during surgery. It is on the lower right hand side of my abdomen and it is more pronounced certain times of the month where you can actually feel it. With the sac and everything it feels about the size of a softball. Mine stems from a previous surgery I had in 1997 to remove three tumors from my abdomen. This surgery was not done lapriscopic (sp) and needed 52 staples to close the incision. That weakened my abdominal wall and that is where the hernia came from. The ventral hernia is the reason my surgeon recommended the sleeve surgery to begin with. They didn't want to operate on the hernia at my weight because it is a very hard surgery to go thru they said and at my weight there was high chance of it coming back. So they suggested sleeve surgery to get the weight off first then at 6-8 months out we will see how things are and they will operate on my hernia. I was soooooo hoping to wake up with Herman (what we call my hernia LOL) So I will get this weight off and then get rid of Herman!!

Incision pain! Suggestions please.
CheleLynn45 replied to Annika Gangale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry to hear that. I wish I had some wonderful helpful advice, but I was sleeved on 10/27 and never had incision pain. I hope that subsides for you very soon! Mine are just itching like crazy right now and I lost the glue on one of them. I am amazed at how tiny the actual incision is. Good Luck with your recovery!!! -
14 hrs post op, gas pain but wont let me take gasx
CheleLynn45 replied to nprcowboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I truly believe walking saved me with the gas pains. I was walking as soon as I could after surgery and every couple hours after that. I am almost two weeks post op and really never had gas pains. I must have been moving the gas pretty well cause I was "tooting" once I got home. LOL (sorry if TMI) So get out there and walk, do whatever you can. When I first got home I walked around the house in 15 min increments and as I felt better and steadier I went outside and went longer everytime. Two days ago I went back to the gym and did an hour straight on the treadmill. It felt good but I was tired. -
I love this stuff too!! I mix it into my unsweetened tea and my broths right now. I ordered mine off Amazon.com, not sure if they ship to the UK or not.

In a few hours will feel more like myself.......:)
CheleLynn45 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am one week and one day post op. My husband has been on me to get out the house other than my three walks I am taking daily. So I am doing it. I am taking my Water bottle and I am going and getting my nails and toenails done FINALLY!! Having the polish off my artificial nails since surgery is driving me nuts! I hate the way my nails look. And since I am feeling good I figured why not! I am proud of myself for how I have gotten thru this first week. I am getting in my Protein, my water and my walking it is time to get my nails back to normal too!!!! -
3 weeks post op and feel no restriction
CheleLynn45 replied to twirlyhead620's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am one week and one day post op today and was talking with Gail my patient coordinator from the hospital, I love her. I was concerned with how much I was getting down a day. I am getting in all my Protein and my Water, grant it it will take me about an hour or so do finish a shake but I'm doing it. I guess I am feeling full since I am not feeling hungry? If that makes sense? Gail says I am doing just great and to keep doing what I am doing. She also said like other that have posted when you start eating more dense foods you will feel fuller faster and not be able to get as much down,. I have decided to be extremely happy with my progress and thank my lucky stars!!! -
1 week Post Op.....looking for advice, tips....
CheleLynn45 replied to CheleLynn45's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@gaudjosl.......I received a call from the patient coordinator from the hospital following up on my progress and that is exactly what she told me too. @@Miss Mac......I have read a ton on here about stalls, they don't sound very fun but I am hoping to work thru them when I reach them. @Luna222.......I'm so glad to hear you are doing well with your recovery too. I guess after being on these threads for so long before surgery I was expecting so much more to go wrong. I feel so bad for some on here especially when I am doing so well. Good Luck with your follow up apt!! -
1 week Post Op.....looking for advice, tips....
CheleLynn45 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So Monday 11/3 I was one week post op from my surgery on 10/27. I came home Tuesday around dinnertime from the hospital and found that I did not need to take any of my pain meds at all. I was so surprised since I am a giant baby when it come to being in pain or uncomfortable. My first couple days home I was only getting in half of what my doc wanted me to and I was starting to get nervous. But come Friday I was able to almost reach my goals of 60g of Protein and 64oz of Water. I had a rough day on Saturday due to some protein not agreeing with my tummy at all, took a few naps but still managed to get in my three 20 minute walks so I still call it a good day! Now here is where I am looking for any advice or tips people further out than me can offer. Both Sunday and Monday I was able to get all my protein in (and a teeny bit more) all my water in and all my walking, I have been able to drink an 11oz RTD Premeire Protein shake cut with 4oz of 1% milk in about an hour sipping sipping sipping. Then I wait 30-40mins and start sipping on my water glass. Then I eat a shake again usually a scoop of unjury chocolate, with 2tbsp PB2, 8 oz of milk and a few ice cubes. Again I can get it all down in about an hour. Then back to my water. Then I have broth with either my GENEPRO unflavored protein in it or the Unjury chicken Soup protein in it, I am straining the light low sodium Soups, (French onion has the best flavor) at dinner time. It usually ends up being about 8oz of liquid between the broth and the water I add. Once again it takes me about 45mis to an hour to get the broth down. This is NOT what I was expecting?? I thought I would only be able to get down a couple ounces at a time and was so worried about getting in my protein and water. Is this fairly usual for being a week out?? My doc has me on full liquids till the 9th, and and then onto the next stage. Now I am not really feeling hunger, but I am getting a full feeling when I am done. I am trying to get in a Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have sat down with my family both nights while they ate dinner and had my broth. It didn't bother me to do that, it was nice to eat together, and with me taking longer our conversation was longer too. Instead of eating in 15mins jumping up and cleaning up, it was nice. Sorry this is so long but I guess I feel like I am doing everything correctly I don't want to miss anything. I am really looking forward to trying some real chewable food on the 9th, but I don't want to rush anything. I want my tummy to heal. I am down 13lbs in one week and 22.5 since my pre op the week before. I feel pretty good and am going to venture out again in the next couple days. I did go grocery shopping with my hubby on sunday and did pretty good. He says I am doing way better than I think I am. -
1 week Post Op.....looking for advice, tips....
CheleLynn45 replied to CheleLynn45's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@proudgrammy I so hope it didn't sound like complaining!! I woke up more in awe than anything. My experience is just so different than I expected, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I keep talking to my husband about things and he keeps telling me to just keep doing what I am doing and it will all work out!! I am really getting a little excited that I can and will be successful! -

CheleLynn45 replied to mariomomi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love this post. I just posted to this forum this morning because I am surprised and shocked at how I am doing and wanted to see how people thought I was doing and making sure I wasn't missing anything. This is a great reminder to focus on the positives, there will definitely be negatives, but if you choose to focus on the positives you will succeed I believe that!!! Thanks for posting this!! -
I was also told I could have decaf tea. I like it unsweetened so no problem there!!

I think mine got changed due to the surgeon's schedule. The girl that called me I felt so bad for her, she had to move 20 peoples surgeries. I was so upset in the beginning of the phone call, I had everything set, my mom was flying in, my husband had time off and I had the weeks I needed off of work. Moving it up a week really messed with stuff. But I felt so bad for her and she was really trying to work with me that I didn't yell or complain.

Pre Op Diet starts tomorrow.....Nervous & Excited!
CheleLynn45 replied to CheleLynn45's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I called my doc to make sure what it was because my pre op appt isn't till 10/21 at 3pm and my surgery is Oct 27th I wanted to get at least a week of the pre op diet in. My original surgery was scheduled for Nov 3rd but they switched me to Oct 27 and said it was fine to keep my pre op appt where it was. I think because they had to reschedule almost 20 people. My pre op consists of two Protein shakes a day, 3oz of lean protein, 1 cup veggie or salad with low fat dressing, and 1 cup fruit. I don't like vegetables so today I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, lettuce with 3oz of chicken on it with low fat dressing. dinner was a protein shake and I will have my apple in a little bit.
